Finales, Premieres, & Galactica Summer Surfing on the Tube Melinda Ledman, HJ TV Editor
The biggest news this month, at least for this self-proclaimed sci-fi geek, is the summer finale of Battlestar Galactica.
Of course, it's going to leave us hanging, as all great finales do. But
I'm prepared for that. At least it will give me time to fill in the
blanks on my new Galacticana
blog. If you're a fan, be sure to stop by and leave a comment!
I suppose there is life outside of Galactica, so for those of you not obsessing with me, it looks like there are a few interesting new series starting up this month.
You might also notice that this month is apparently awards month. Is it
any coincidence that it lines up with high school and college
graduation month? I guess it's time for entertainers to be recognized
for this year's (or possibly lifetime) achievements. Click through for more about season wrap-ups, other season openers, and series premieres.

Two Poor Womens' Sex and the City Maurice Broaddus | 06/12/08 | Click to Comment The shows want to be about shattering
people's ideas about roles of women. These social-climbing BFFs are
slaves to fashion, girls night out bonding over drinks, always working
(yet rarely seeming to actually be doing any work), and prone to
vacuous navel gazing.
Home Improvement: Season 8
Yo | 06/10/08 | Click to Comment NOW ON DVD. Home Improvement
lasted eight seasons; that's eight more than most critics believed it
would last. Now you can watch the final season all over again on DVD,
but the question is: is it worth your time to do so? I say yes.
Maurice Broaddus | 06/05/08 | Click to Comment The advertising media is like an empire in
constant search of kingdoms to colonize. "So we're supposed to believe
that people are living one way and secretly thinking the exact
opposite? That's ridiculous." -Salvatore Romano (Bryan Batt).
The Muppet Show: Season 3
Yo | 06/03/08 | Click to Comment NOW ON DVD. There has never been nor will there ever be
anything quite like The Muppet Show. With Season Three now on DVD, you
can relive the glorious hilarity and even the punny cheesiness of one
of the most unique and entertaining shows to ever be on TV.
At the Death House Door
Elisabeth Leitch | 05/29/08 | Click to Comment As I think about all the relationships in
the film, I can't help but think that those characterized by hate,
division, and judgment are associated with the pain of death, and all
those characterized by love, friendship, and understanding with the joy
of life.

06/10/08 | Comment Here Through the years, we have been
injected with so many new ideas, philosophical thoughts, cultural
pressures, taboos, media hype and "politically correct" expectations
that we hardly know what to think. These days, we're a lot more like
the Borg in the grand scheme of things.
06/06/08 | Comment Here The al Qaeda cell group situation has changed the tide of our
beliefs. Now, instead of singling out a person here or there as a spy,
we generally believe the enemy to be all around us, disguised as one of
us, or many of us.
05/31/08 | Comment Here What hit me was the idea that you could be completely convinced that
you are one thing, when in fact, you are something entirely different:
every fiber of you capable of acts that are not in line with your own
paradigm of who you are and what you're about.
05/28/08 | 1 Comment I'm not sure a better thesis has been written on our religious
history and current state of the union. I like the fact, too, that they
assigned the One God theology to the bad guys. It gives me a fresh take
on it all, and allows me to see the whole battle in a different light. |
