As a dark vision of inner city turmoil, The Wire is the most densely written and demanding show on the air. It reflects how deeply capitalism is embedded into the fabric of our culture, with drugs as economic transactions and murders as market fluctuations.

In the silence, God is there. Or in Earl's words, "I thought Karma was dead, but she was just laying low." You can turn your back on Him, but He won't turn His back on you. And sometimes we need the silence in order to learn-if only to learn to listen.

Hers was the voice that shaped him, taught him, disciplined him, and helped him come to terms with his messianic consciousness. It's not easy to raise a teenage boy these days, and Sarah is one mother you don't want to cross.

Let's face it, we have this void, this need for intimacy that our culture has taught us to fill with all sorts of things that fall short of truly filling it. Money. Marriage. Sex. Parenthood. Success. Food. (Don't tell me you haven't tried to fill the pain of a break-up with a cheeseburger or some ice cream. Or both.)

Knight Rider returned to NBC recently with a new Michael behind the wheel of a new KITT. While many fans of the original show were concerned about KITT being anything other than a Trans-Am, perhaps the real concern is whether or not a show like this has any place in today's TV.

The Big Give, the new reality show from Oprah, was a big hit. I feel the whole set up is a big phony. Is this really generosity and compassion? While it may be nice to have something "heartwarming" and "positive" on TV, let's not confuse reality TV with reality.

So where is Lost going? Will fauns and talking beavers help John Locke decide what to do? Will Father Christmas offer Jack and Kate magic objects to help them get home? Will we find a secret room with a Magician who has found the secret Atlantis dust?
