Helen Beatrix Potter was born in London on July 28, 1866. She was a smart and talented young girl who loved to explore and learn about the world around her. From a young age, she loved to illustrate and sketch. Illustrating is where she first became well-known before becoming an author. Before ever being a published writer, Beatrix Potter had completed illustrations for stories such as Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.

Beatrix went on to write and illustrate The Tale of Peter Rabbit and after it was turned down by numerous publishing companies she went on to publish the book herself.
