Writer/director John Sayles gives us example after example of the ways that every part of life carries disparity. There always seems to be something a little beneath the surface that is totally different from the veneer we cover our lives with. It is true of relationships, business dealings, memories of the "good old days," traditions.

THE BIBLE
LIFE in the Bible generally refers to physical life
(Gen. 2:7; Luke 16:25, etc.);

LIFE is also used figuratively
(1.) for immortality (Heb. 7:16);
(2.) conduct or manner of life (Rom. 6:4);
(3.) spiritual life or salvation (John 3:16, 17, 18, 36);
(4.) eternal life (Matt. 19:16, 17; John 3:15);

LIFE is also used to refer to God and Christ as the absolute source and cause of all life
(John 1:4; 5:26, 39; 11:25; 12:50).

JESUS SAID:
A thief is only there to steal and kill and destroy. I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of.
