The Little Family Just Got Bigger. |
SYNOPSIS:
He's clever, enthusiastic, a 'can do' guy with attitude-and he's a mouse. From Rob Minkoff, co-director of The Lion King, comes the comedy adventure STUART LITTLE, based on the classic book by beloved American author E.B. White ("Charlotte's Web, "The Trumpet of the Swan") that has been entertaining families for over 50 years. Combining live-action with groundbreaking visual effects technology by the artists and innovators at Sony Pictures Imageworks, it's the story of a mouse who is raised by the Littles, a human family played by Academy Award® winner Geena Davis, Jonathan Lipnicki (Jerry Maguire) and Hugh Laurie (101 Dalmations). As Stuart (voiced by Michael J. Fox) embarks on adventures with a variety of characters, including his nemesis, Snowbell the cat (voiced by The Lion King's Nathan Lane), Stuart learns the true meaning of family, loyalty and friendship. The production of the film's title character and some of his friends and adversaries represents one of the most ambitious ventures to date into photo-real, performance-based digital character creation. |

THE MEANING OF BEING A BLENDED FAMILY
A DIFFERENT KIND OF FAMILY |
The story is a simple one. We know the end from the beginning. We have seen the story in other forms a hundred times before. It's about a husband and wife who adopt a little mouse as their son -Stuart Little. |
It takes a while for their natural son and their friends to get used to their new addition.
Everything seems to go smoothly.
|
...Snowbell, the family cat, who greets Stuart by nearly eating him. "Now we don't eat family members," Mrs. Little tells their cat, as they removed Stuart from the cat's mouth.
The jealous cat begins to devise ways to get Stuart |
out of the family. "After all," reasons the cat, "who ever heard of a mouse with a pet cat?" The solution comes in the form of a streetwise cat, who tricks Stuart into believing that his real mom and dad live elsewhere. |
Without giving away all the details of the story, the scheme is foiled and Stuart Little returns to his new family. They are -at last- family.
A mixed family. But a family indeed. Including a transformed Snowbell.

| This was not the most moving film I have ever watched. It will never make anyone's top ten. But the public response has been very good. It was the #1 movie for the first last two weeks after its release. My own sense is that it speaks to a public need of more "family" type films without all the PG-13 and R rated elements. My other sense is that it addresses an increasingly common situation in our culture -the mixed or blended family. It also speaks to the issue of family harmony -the ability to live together -at peace with each other. The relationship between the wife and husband is almost too perfect -very desirous. This is the perfect type of family that many want -but find difficult to achieve. |
