A SPIRITUAL WORD from david bruce

STORIES ARE ABOUT RELATIONSHIP

SPIRITUAL THEMES

“To be, or not to be: that is the question.” Thus Hamlet considered life and death and which he would choose.

Ramón Sampedro has already made his choice. He has chosen not to be to die. But because he is a quadriplegic, he is unable, on his own, to bring that death about. For others to help him would be a crime. So in spite of his choice, he still lives 28 years after his crippling accident.
--Darrel Manson

ON THE CHOICE OF LIFE AND DEATH

God asks no one whether he will accept life. This is not the choice. The only choice you have as you go through life is how you will live it.
--Bernard Meltzer

God gave us a free choice because there is no significance to love that knows no alternative.
--James C. Dobson (1936– )

Our destiny is not determined for us, but it is determined by us. Man’s free will is part of God’s sovereign will. We have freedom to take which course we choose, but not freedom to determine the end of that choice. God makes clear what he desires, we must choose, and the result of the choice is not the inevitableness of law, but the inevitableness of God.
--Oswald Chambers (1874–1917)

The question the film sets before us is who should be able to make such a choice. For many the question may seem inappropriate. They would maintain that all life is holy and must be maintained when possible. However, that approach condemns some to lives they consider intolerable. Should Ramón be allowed to have a say in how he lives (or not) his life? Should the courts or the church set limits on his rights?
--Darrel Manson

ON THE CHOICE OF LIFE AND DEATH

Deut. 30:19-20 (Message Bible)
I call Heaven and Earth to witness against you today: I place before you Life and Death, Blessing and Curse. Choose life so that you and your children will live.

And love God, your God, listening obediently to him, firmly embracing him. Oh yes, he is life itself, a long life settled on the soil that God, your God, promised to give your ancestors, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

Joshua 24:15-18 (MsgB)
"If you decide that it's a bad thing to worship God, then choose a god you'd rather serve—and do it today. Choose one of the gods your ancestors worshiped from the country beyond The River, or one of the gods of the Amorites, on whose land you're now living. As for me and my family, we'll worship God."

The people answered, "We'd never forsake God! Never! We'd never leave God to worship other gods.

"God is our God! He brought up our ancestors from Egypt and from slave conditions. He did all those great signs while we watched. He has kept his eye on us all along the roads we've traveled and among the nations we've passed through. Just for us he drove out all the nations, Amorites and all, who lived in the land.

"Count us in: We too are going to worship God. He's our God."

1 Kings 18:21 (MsgB)
Elijah challenged the people: "How long are you going to sit on the fence? If God is the real God, follow him; if it's Baal, follow him. Make up your minds!"

Nobody said a word; nobody made a move.
