Simon Remark reviews: "So few of today's films are willing to take risks, opting instead to stick with formulas that have proven to be box office successful. This, however, isn't true of Tim Blake Nelson's "O," a bold and uncompromising retelling of Shakespeare's classic tragedy Othello. "O" is perhaps the darkest film to hit multiplex theaters this summer....."

David Bruce reviews: "Homer's Odyssey in an updated story. In the Depression-era deep South, three escapees from a Mississippi prison chain gang embark on the adventure of a lifetime as they set out to pursue their freedom and return to their homes. And there is praying and miracles..."

Simon Remark reviews.

Ocean's Eleven is a lot like another Soderbergh film I love, Out of Sight, inasmuch as it stars George Clooney, involves a big score, has great dialogue (and great actors to deliver said dialogue-Clooney is especially charming and witty in each), and a protagonist willing to risk it all for a girl.

A Seoul businessman, after a night of drinking, disappears. Oh Dae-su finds himself in a room very similar to a motel room – a bed, a TV – but with a hole in the door through which his food is slid in, much like a jail cell. Periodically he’s gassed. The TV serves as his only contact with the world. He learns that he is wanted for the murder of his wife. He stays in this room, with no human contact for a year, then two, then three…. Finally, fifteen years later he is released, without any explanation of who had done this to him or why. He wants revenge.

Review by Darrel Manson: The truly scary thing about this film is not that someone might obsess like Sy does, but that there are so many ways that he mirrors our world.

David Bruce reviews: "Here is an interesting look at life... I really liked the idea in the film. Four men met the same woman and each forms a very different idea of who she is. Each man is influenced by their own grids, needs and fantasies."
Click to go to OPEN RANGEOPEN RANGE (2003)
Review by Mike Furches: The truth is that this is one of the best westerns to come around in years. While the story line resembles the wonderful Magnificent 7, there is enough story telling and uniqueness’ to have Open Range stand on its own. Costner, Duvall, Jeter and Bening are wonderful and it will be hard to overlook any of them come nomination time for awards.

Revew by Chris Utley and Kevin Miller: Kudos to the filmmakers for not resorting to the usual blood & guts & slo-mo tracking shots of the sharks approaching and devouring their prey. Instead, the filmmakers use a combination of total darkness, booming thunder and streaky lightning. This technique leaves us nervous, terrified, and biting their nails.

Betty Hamm reviews: There are many spiritual issues raised in this film. Is belief in Christ something worth dying for? What happens when you die? Will praying help you to overcome fear?
