| I have two daughters who just love this television series. It is
one that has really struck a chord in pop culture. In fact, the
Powerpuff Girls have racked in over a billion dollars in revenue
(yes, that's right, a billion, with a B). It truly is amazing.
One has to ask why this series is so popular that it should merit
a movie. Here are some reasons:
1. Actually it is designed for adults with a tip of the hat to
younger audiences. So, it does not condescend.
2. It also deals with the issues of empowerment.
3. It has to do with making a difference in life: "Saving the
world before bedtime." Ah yes, destiny, purpose, identity,
involvement, and all those other wonderful things.
4. It follows the same basic story line as Spiderman. Mojo
Jojo is like the Green Goblin, and the Powerpuff Girls are
similar to Spiderman. An accident happens and they are all
transformed. Transforming events can make us more
compassionate or, as with Mojo/Green Goblin, more cruel.
5. The series and film deal with the issues of Good and
Evil: a theme that never goes out of date.
6. Parallels to spiritual power can also be drawn through the
singular gifts of Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup - three little
girls who happen to have superpowers. Most people fantasize
or wonder about special empowerment. In truth however,
everyone has their own special giftedness (unique talents,
personality, thoughts, situation, abilities). This series deals
with the responsible use of such empowerment. Consider:
How are we using our special "powers"?
7.
Finally, The Powerpuff Girls are just plain fun. Go and have a good
time. Great family entertainment with a myriad of table talk points.
