David BruceThe kids love Pokemon. There were long lines when it opened. There are lots of connections to biblical themes, too. Including the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Parents can use this film to discuss spiritual truth with their children.

AN EPILOGUE FOR MY TIRADE
Subject: Pokemon
Date: Sun, 24 Jun 2001
From: "Ashley"

*sigh* Hi again-sorry to email twice, but I felt I needed to sum up the whole rant.

Parents and/or paranoid religious zealots, or perhaps both-
Pokemon, and for that matter, any violent content, is not going to make your kids into killers. Neglecting to love and care for your children, and making ill use of your time condemning things like this when there are much more serious problems at hand does more harm than any "fad" will do. You should be spending more time with your kids, and instead of taking away their cards and burning them, trying to learn more about Pokemon and get interested. I have seen way too many people who have criticized pokemon without acknowledging the positive effects, or even knowing what certain things were about-just look at the person who claims that pokemon has saved his/her life. Pokemon has made me much more creative and imaginative-and I believe that few, if any other similar counterparts (Digimon, Monster Rancher) could've done the same thing for me, to this extent. It has given me something to dream about, something to think about.

People, do your math. I don't care HOW stupid or "childish" you think something is-DO YOUR RESEARCH before condemning, praising, or criticizing; for example, if you get the concept of the pokemon game entirely wrong, someone's gonna come up to you and do your research for you. You'll be lucky if it's polite-people usually tend to smash it into your face and rub it in all of your cuts. In the end, believe me, you will look like a fool for pointing an accusing finger at the yellow mouse, blaming it for all of the word's evil-and, get this-not even being able to PRONOUNCE its name correctly.

POKEMON IS NOT EVIL
Date: Sat, 04 Mar 2000
From: "alex clark" guardianforce99@hotmail.com

name: Alex Clark (i don't care if you post my e-mail)
Hi I am a forteen year old from El Paso. I was raised in the church my whole life and am a Christian. The people at my church have never said anything about pokemon being evil and I don't think they are either. Pokemon is not real. It is just a game. Make believe. It is not evil. There are lots of good things about it. It teaches kids stratigy, winning and losing, and about friendship. You people never pay attention to the show long enough to understand its good points. You just take one look and try to find as much bad stuff about it as you can. So far have you heard anything about people who play pokemon going out and joining cults and things like that? I think you should devote your time to bashing things that really deserve bashing, like gangs, drugs, and barney. Leave pokemon alone.
Response:I am with you, real evil is often over looked. Pokemon should be the least of our worries. But, to hear some people go on about it -you would think it was Satan incarnate. -David.

A FREE 16 YEAR OLD TALKS ABOUT POKEMON
Subject: letter from an free 16 year old
Date: Tue, 29 Feb 2000

Hello friends,
I write to you all about something that I take dearly to heart. I thank the Lord for all of the concerned parents that read about the POKEmon movie and this craze that took the world by storm. In this one letter I wish to comfort your fears and put you on your guard.
I've been through a lot in my 16 years of life and I've seen lots of things similar to pokemon and just as dangerous. When I was in grade 5 there was fights in my school about marbles even though no one ever considered marbles satanic. Later I was into Dungeons and Dragons even though I knew that my parents wouldn't approve, I was really into fantasy and storys about wizards and paladins and all this behind the back of my parents. After It was trading card games like Pokemon cards and I was the master of Magic, Star Wars, Battle Tech and any other card game I could get my hands on. Then I threw myself into video games, breaking the law with Warez trading and un-copywrited games. That finished a couple months ago and now I'm free, totally free and I don't ever want to end up in that world again.
I realise when I look back at the past couple years that all these crazes that hit us one by one and have emptied kids pockets, each and every one captured me and sucked me in. And each time it became the priority of my life, above God. Don't judge me please, i'm not weak but I know that when it comes to games and hobbies and stuff I've tried a lot and I've seen a lot, possibly even more then James from Vancouver but now I've set my priorities towards God and nothing else matters.
When it comes to PoKemon I have to admit that I totally love the game/show/cards/movie/collectibles etc... I know thought that if they would of happened when I was a bit younger I would become a pokemon maniac like all these kids and I totally would have become in bondage towards these ridiculous creatures. But I can assure all of you that there is nothing harmfull with pokemon, what is harmfull is the lack of interest in God. During my D & D years I did a lot of things that I'm ashamed of, and all that would have been different if my relationship with God would have been stronger. The true problem with PoKemon is that it's a false God, just like Star Wars, television, money, sex and every other thing that we obsess about. Kids place it above God and become controled by it.
The solution to all this hype is easy, teach children to love God with all their heart, all their soul, all their strength, all their mind, and to love others. Invest in their knowledge of God and share with them as if they were our peers, not just simply children. When that is taught, Pokemon wont be a problem anymore and kids and adults will be able to enjoy and marvel at the creativity of this pokemon world without worrying. HELP KIDS TO OBSESS ABOUT JESUS not pokemon. I'm praying for you all, and for the kids that they may learn a real passion for the
Lord.
Nathan

My response: Your respose is a lot different than the other 16 year old who wrote me. Thank you for your carefully thought out response to Pokemon.

BLASTPHEMY
Date:Fri, 4 Feb 2000
From: JAMES -Age 16
HOW DARE YOU COMPARE THIS GARBAGE TO JESUS CHRIST IN ANY WAY!!! SAYING THAT THIS OCCULT TEACHES ABOUT THE DEATH AND RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST IS EVIL. SATAN IS USING THE POKEMON MATERIAL TO INFLUENCE CHILDREN WHO KNOW NO BETTER TO GET INTO THE OCCULT, LIKE BAIT ON A FISHOOK! POKEMON IS THE MATERIAL OF SATAN HIMSELF AND HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH GOD. SAYING THAT ONE OF YOUR CHARACTERS IS LIKE JESUS IS BLASTPHEMEY. A CHARACTRER CAN BE "GOOD" , BUT NEVER CHRIST-LIKE. ALSO, HOW A PREACHER OF GOD'S WORD CAN COMMEND SUCH EVIL IS RIDICULOUS. GARBAGE LIKE THIS SHOULD NEVER BE ALLOWED TO AIR. ANOTHER THING-THE "MEWTWO" CHARACHTER IS NOTHING LIKE THE ANTICHRIST, BUT DRAWING CHILDREN IN TO THIS KIND OF WICKEDNESS IS INVITING HIS IDEOLOGY IN. THE RISE OF EVIL AND DEMONIC WORSHIP IS ONE OF THE SIGNS OF THE SECOND COMING OF CHRIST. I WILL BE PRAYING FOR YOU.

My responses: Thank you for your prayers, I can, at least, appreciate that.

ANOTHER ANTI-POKEMON PERSON

From:Michael Arra

Sir,
I respectfully submit this scripture " There is a way that seems right to a man, But the end thereof are the ways of DEATH!!! Prov. 14:12
Love, in His Service,
Michael Arra

My response:
And this has to do with...?
What?
I fail to see the connection.
The context of Proverbs 14:12 is evil doers and the upright.
Are you saying:
People who play Pokemon are "the house of the wicked" (v.11)?
Kids who play Pokemon are "sad" (v.13) and "perverse" (v.14)?
Sorry, it does not connect for me.
It would connect to Hitler, terrorist, rapists, and murders.
But to kids playing Pokemon? No, sorry.
Mark 7:15 is a better fit, for me.
Thanks for taking the time to write.
May God bless you.
Warmly, David Bruce

TALKING SENSE ABOUT POKEMON
Date: Sat, 15 Jan 2000 22:23:23 -0600
From: Jim

Dear David,

Judging from the unreasonable, panic-stricken warnings that some conservative Christians have published, one would think that Pokémon represents the greatest threat to Christianity since Tinky Winky. You have probably heard some of these amazing statements: Pokémon is evil? Pokémon is occult? Pokémon is addictive? Pokémon is forcing our kids to become obsessed gamblers? Pokémon is a blood sport, like cockfighting? and on and on, ad nauseam. Let?s cut through all of the sensationalistic, headline-grabbing statements and publicity stunts; in short, let?s get real!

We live in a world troubled by very real evils -- gang violence, racism, child abuse, battered women, terrorism, school shootings, ruined marriages, broken lives -- yet some people go to great lengths waging a war on fictitious children's animated characters. It is no small wonder that the world ridicules modern-day Christianity! Could it be that those who insist on attacking Pokémon are wasting their time and energy on trivial matters, thereby neglecting the real work that God has called them to do?

For a good introduction to the history of Pokémon and how it was developed, read the November 22, 1999 issue of Time magazine. Pokémon was not created to be a deliberate, occult effort to entrap or enslave our children. A recent article claimed that ?Pokémon is more than just a game, it is a religion.? The same article stated that the ?2.B.A. Master? CD is the Pokémon trainer?s ?Bible.? Come on, give me a break! We are talking about a game, folks! And please do not place
Pokémon in the same league as Doom or Duke Nukem; that is just plain ignorant.

Pokémon has been called (by some) a "blood sport" equivalent to cockfighting. This is blatantly incorrect. Pokémon do not kill their opponents; Pokémon faint and are revived. This feature was deliberately placed in the game from the beginning. There is no killing and no blood in Pokémon; responsible journalists have likened Pokémon to a modern version of ?rock, paper, scissors.? Also, if one watches the Pokémon TV series or the movie from an unbiased point of view, one will see such things as caring, affection, love, and teamwork - all admirable qualities. As for the charge that Pokémon is no different from cockfighting (I will say this s-l-o-w-l-y to avoid any misunderstanding): Cockfighting is real - Pokémon ain?t real!

What about the allegations that Pokémon is addictive and is akin to gambling? If this was true, shouldn?t our children?s hospitals be filling up with addicted, obsessed gamblers? I keep hearing about all these ?obsessed? kids, but where are they? I will concede that it?s possible to become obsessed with a game, but this would represent an aberration, not the norm. Just as with any other game, responsible parents should supervise (and limit, if necessary) their children?s involvement with Pokémon. (Oh, by the way: How many of us collected baseball cards when we were kids? Were not some of those cards extremely rare? We continued to buy packages of baseball cards, hoping to find the elusive rare ones - did that make us gambling addicts?)

If some have made a personal decision to avoid Pokémon (or any other activity, for that matter) - that?s fine. However, when individuals start making proclamations such as, ?This is evil and it?s wrong for any Christian to participate,? - well, those people should do something truly worthy of the name "Christian", and lose that self-righteous, Pharisaical brand of legalism.

Why do so many Christians have trouble understanding the concept of "using one's imagination?" C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkein were Christians, and yet they wrote books which told of fantasy worlds populated by all sorts of strange and astonishing beings. Kids are kids for only a short time; let's not deny them the opportunity to dream and imagine.

It is unfortunate that so many people are capable of displaying Christian love only while others agree with their views. When one disagrees and challenges them, these people attack with a vengeance and try to mercilessly beat their opponent into submission. Not exactly the kind of message that Christians should be sending to the world, is it? Why do they continually focus on such things as Tinky Winky and Pokémon, instead of doing something constructive for society, such as helping hurting people? I think it's because Tinky Winky and Pokémon are easy targets which can't fight back because they aren't real. It's much too
risky to confront abuse, racism, marital infidelity, broken relationships, etc. - that would require doing some *real* work for a change.

My recommendation for the anti-Pokemon crowd: Lighten up, buy a Game Boy
and go "catch 'em all!"

Jim (a Christian father of 5 children)

My response: Yes, I agree with you.

POTENTIAL FOR GOD AND SATAN
Subject:Pokemon: It certainly has our attention, doesn't it?
Date: Wed, 12 Jan 2000
From: HNZG@aol.com

Thank you for sharing many views on this subject, and allowing many people to give theirs as well. As far as the "entertainment industry" goes, there are many ways in which we can enrich our lives as well as draw our lives away from God too. Looking at movies and the such in a biblical perspective is to be commended, but of course one has to remember that HOLLYWOOD and JESUS aren't really a pair that should be joined together. (Unless, of course, you are looking for a clever name for your website!!) Here are my thoughts on using movies and games and entertainment for God's glory and to learn about Him. God wishes for us to live our lives in accordance with His Word so that we may love Him and grow to be like Him, so that others may as well. Satan wants only one thing: the exact opposite! He knows his fate so he will do anything, ANYTHING, to take us away from a God-centered life. Whether it is entertainment, recreation, money, you name it, Satan will use it as a tool to create doubt, strife, and weakness in our lives. That is truly what the Devil intends for our lives. As long as we remember that Satan is not in the business of building up the world in order to introduce the ANTICHRIST as much as he is in the business of tearing Christians down, our perspective will be opened up further. And isn't that what this website is all about? to keep us informed
as to what is going on out there!!! PS and BTW:: Those who believe that "Whatever is not of God is of the Devil!" should throw away their TV's, VCR's, and every fiction book in their house! God understands that we live IN the world, but we do not have to be OF the world!

With respect and peace to all

HOLLYWOOD JESUS RECOMMENDS FILTH AND TRASH
Subject: Clarification of Mrs.Christian
Date: Fri, 7 Jan 2000
From: Mrs. Christian II

I am not the Mrs. Christian who wrote the first letter on Pokeman. I inadvertently used the same name, which was my error and I apologize. I stand by my statements. You asked the original Mrs. Christian if she was a member of a group who held solely to the King James Bible. I don't know the original Mrs. Christian, but as for myself, I agree with her viewpoints and I use the New American Standard Bible. I want to mention also that am saddened to see your approval of the filthy movies R-rated movies of today. The filthy language is not something we should be listening to regardless of how good the acting is. We are to guard our minds against such things and also the exploitation and degradation of sexual subjects which is an affront to the Lord. Would you invite Jesus to accompany you to an R-rated or even a PG-13 rated movie? To sort through the filth and garbage hoping to find some bit of redeeming value is ludicrous for a Christian. We only need to go to the Word of God and wholesome entertainment, what little there is available today. To promote this filth is an abomination to God. I exhort you to search your heart on this matter. Hollywood is nothing but a pit of iniquity these days for the most part. We gladly support and go to the rare movies that are wholesome entertainment. Pokeman may be G-rated, but it promotes the obsession that children have with this occultic craze. It is a tool of satan and should be avoided. The devil is clever and will use all sorts of ways to get his way. As stewards of our God-given resources we do not pay money to see unwholesome entertainment and do not wish to pollute our minds with the garbage. The Word tells us that in everything we do should be of honor and glory to God. Going to see filth sure doesn't bring honor to Him. I believe that especially in these times we as Christians need to be extra vigilant and inform ourselves and commit ourselves to leading pure lives so that we can be a light in the darkness.
Respectfully submitted,
Mrs. Christian II
My response: Thank you for clarrifing the Mrs. Christian thing.
Movie reviews are not recommendations. I recommend very few of the films I review. I do recommend some R rated however. I think you are right in supporting only the films that you can appreciate. In terms of searching my heart, I am fine, thank you for your concerns. May God continue to bless you as a concerned and caring mother.

POKEMON AND CARD FEARS ARE BASELESS
Subject: Pokemon "Chuckles"
Date: Fri, 7 Jan 2000
From: James Berg
**Please withold my email address. I dont want to get more spam than I already have :) **

Hi HolleywoodJesus,
First, I must say that im not a religious man, nor do I wish to debate theology to a great extent. I just wanted to point out a few things, and comment on a few.

I was led to your site from a most surprising source, a humor site called Portal of Evil. Your site was on their top 10 "To visit" site ;) (http://www.portalofevil.com/ if you are curious)

I personally find it absolutely mindboggling that seemingly rational, literate adults put so much stock in games, and particularily gaming companies, as being things of the Devil. I personally played the game Dungeons and Dragons, playing first when I was 5 years old, and playing a great deal until I was about 15. Since then, ive played computer games, card games (Magic: The Gathering particularily), and similar entertainment-driven pasttimes. Each of these, i feel, has made me a better person, and not turned me from the precepts of God (Which to me is basic "goodness"). From games such as D&D, I learned to read, write in a literate and entertaining manner, and was exposed to teamwork, leadership, and problem solving.

It seems that some of the proponents of "these games are bad" viewpoints believe that these games all resolve around rituals where we sacrifice chickens to Satan, or cackle gleefully while we commit acts of murder and rape. To 99% of the playing public that i have ever met, and thats covering a "lot" of people, they are simply an intelligent, mentally stimulating pasttime, comparable to chess or Trivial Pursuit. The vast majority of the anti-gaming folks that I have met or read about found their beliefs without actually ever playing the games, or even having a clear idea of what they are about.

The person that emailed in, "R P B", didnt even have his/her facts straight. Wizards of the Coast did not develop dungeons and dragons, TSR did. Specifically, a man named Gary Gygax did, and founded TSR. WotC later bought out TSR, as it was struggling financially, and needed a company with broader marketing possibilities to turn it profitable. It is things like this that irk me. When you are drawing your conclusions with erroneous facts, and then portraying them to others as being truth, you are furthering your cause, and viewpoints, with information that is tainted with falsity.

Having said that, how does playing a card game or Dungeons and Dragons bring you further from God, and closer to the Devil? In every game I have ever seen or heard of, in over 10 years of gaming, the group of players fought valiantly *against* an evil foe. They protected the innocent, and furthered the causes of justice and general "goodness" I have yet to see a clearly presented, rational argument for why games such as these are inherently evil. When a man picks up a knife, he can use it to stab another. He can also use it to cut meat for his family. I feel the same applies to any activity, including games such as these. The evil does not lie in the game, it lies in the people playing the game.

My uncle, who is a religious man, got me into these kinds of games, and he has enjoyed them for decades. His younger daughters both enjoy computer games, and the like, and I have watched them grow up moulded in part by the things they have learned from them. If anything, it has instilled in them, and me I suppose, an inherant knowledge that one must fight against evil to prevail. That fight need not always require violence. Many times it is simply a matter of choosing the right thing. Do you return a wallet, or keep the money inside? Even small things, Do you pay the $2.25 bus fair, or keep a dime when you know the driver will never notice?

A final comment. I still find it upsetting that people would spend so much time worrying and obsessing over such things as a card game, when our world is plauged by such greater troubles and problems. If I ever choose to have children, I would rather spend my time with them warning them against the dangers of things such as drugs, gangs, and diseases. "Now Bobby, I dont want you playing any of this evil Nintendo stuff! You know very well that Mario is the embodiment of You-Know-Who" Call me a narcissist, but it just doesnt make sense to me ;)

My response: Thank you so much for sharing. I appreciate your time.

POKEMON SHOULD BE "VIEWED AS DEADLY THREAT"
Subject:Prayer
Date: Fri, 31 Dec 1999
From: Mrs. Christian

After much prayer, concern and reading the viewer comments I had to come to the Lord and ask "What would Jesus do?" I am led to share my thoughts:

Who is the author of confusion? (Satan of course!). Every Christian should have a hatred for evil (Psalms 101:3-8: "I will set nothing wicked before my eyes; I hate the work of those who fall away; It shall not cling to me. A perverse heart shall depart from me; I will not endure. My eyes shall be on the faithful of the land, That they may dwell with me; He who walks in a perfect way, He shall serve me. He who works deceit shall not dwell within my house; He who tells lies shall not continue in my presence. Early I will destroy all the wicked of the land, That I may cut off all the evildoers from the city of the Lord" (The Word of God - Kings James Version). Yet many mothers and fathers who are so careful to guard their youngsters from physical harm don't notice the evil forces that threaten their spiritual welfare. As a result, they leave them unprotected. They show little concern for the kinds of friends their children make, the magazines they read, or the TV programs they watch. But whenever these influences are bad, they should be seen as a deadly threat, and we should protect our children from them. It's not wrong to hate when we hate what is wrong. How can we avoid looking at evil? ("I will set nothing wicked before my eyes; I hate the work of those who fall away; It shall not cling to me" Psalm 101:3) If we do not hate evil, we cannot love good! Many concerned christian parents do not want to subject their children to anything that would harm their children's spiritual well-being (whether it be putting the blame on a fad or not). Read the Word of God to see the real truth!!!
-Mrs. Christian
My response: Thank you again for your comments. Haven't you written before? Are you in a group that believes that the King James Bible of 1611 is the only true inspired translation of the Bible? Does it believe it is part of the only true Christian church. Or do I have you confused with someone else?. In response to your statement, I agree with the principles you outline, but I wouldn't necessarily apply them to Pokemon.

FOLLOW TO MY RESPONSE:
POKEMON LEADS TO THE OCCULT
Date: Mon, 3 Jan 2000
From: Mrs. Christian

I believe that you are falling into the trap of trivializing the impact of this occultic phenomenon. Any exposure to the occult plants a seed and opens the door to future dangers. The impact may not show immediately and may lie dormant for years, but the influence of the occult does have an impact whether it is through playing around with a ouiji board or being hynotized for entertainment. God has instructed that we are not to have anything to do with the powers of darkness but rather to expose them. We have a responsiblity to protect our children because they are naturally going to want to be a part of the craze and they will feel peer pressure to do so. I pray brother that you will realize that this will have an impact at some time on our precious children. We must not be paranoid, but rather be wise and earnestly seek the Lord's direction. It shouldn't be how far can we push the envelope but rather how safe can we keep our children. We live in a world that is increasingly evil and satan is pulling out all the stops to capture the hearts and minds of children and young people. We must be wise as serpents and gentle as doves. Jesus was extremely protective of children and I do not think that he would want them to take part in Pokeman. I would rather err on the side of caution rather than risk harming a child and I hope that you will take these words to heart. You are responsble for those you influence. The Pokeman fad will surely pass, but the hidden effects of it will remain for a long time and who knows what it could lead to.
In Him,
Mrs. Christian
My response: The light is always more than the darkness -John 1. Dear Mrs. Christian, why do you put so much attention on what you see as darkness? "Finally, beloved, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, if there be any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things." -Philippians 4:8

POKEMON HELPS BRING IN THE ANTI-CHRIST
Subject: Satan is the master of deception
Date: Thu, 30 Dec 1999
From: R P B
Are you aware that the Pokemon game was developed by the same company (Wizards of the Coast) that developed Dungeons and Dragons and has many of the same elements as that game only in a way that young children can relate? We need not look to the ways of the world for information of Jesus Christ, He is vividly explained in The Word of God. It is just what the dirty rotten devil would like us to do is to remove the focus off of The Word of God and onto a dying fad in order to pick up on the next one, and so on, and so on, and so on, until eventually these so called fads of the world may lead up to the actual plot of the antichrist himself. So, am I saying that this game is demon possessed and the worst thing your child could be involved with? Even though I have band them in my home after further investigation, I would rather have them play that kind of game then to deal with drugs and other more seemingly worse situations. However, how many of the so called Christian homes in America have children (or parents for that matter) that know more Godly bible character names and their works (not to mention the Works of Jesus Christ Himself) then the Pokemon characters and their powers or other fads in this world???????

Most Sincerely observant
RPB
My response: Any thing the comes in the way of one's relationship with God is wrong. Good thinks like heathy food, your family, a friend, can be put in the wrong priority, and become a "bad" thing. And so with Pokemon cards. Having said that --Do you seriously believe Pokemon leads to the AntiChrist? I find it hard to believe. I remember the early days of the Beatles. They were supposed by some "authoritities" to be part of a satanic communistic plot to over throw the USA and lead the way for the AntiChrist. I remember when cetrtain white preachers told us of the evils of Rock n Roll. They called it Race Music. They felt it was a satanic plot to destroy America and makes us all savages and bring the AntiChrist. I remember all the talk about Pac Man, Video Games, Pong! JFK was supposed to be the AntiChrist, then Henry Kissinger, then...
It is hard for me to buy into all that you say. It does not pan for me. Thank you for your concerns. God Bless.

POKEMON AND THE ANTI CHRIST
Subject: Does Pokemon bring in antichrist?
Date: Sun, 2 Jan 2000
From: R P B

Hello again, You asked me if I seriously believed if Pokemon really would bring in the antichrist? However, you missed entirely what I was referring to, or if you didn't you appeared to make us all believe you did. What I said was that these kind of fads over and over again generation after generation, just like most all of the things that you referred to (rock-n-roll, Beatles, etc.) would some day as the bible says, make people get worse and worse, bad things becoming good and good things becoming bad. And, God said He would give them (people of the world) over to a reprobate mind. No I don't believe that -Pokemon- will bring in the antichrist, but these are just the kind of things that the devil has always used to keep us occupied when God has actually been trying to get ahold of us all of our lives. However, we keep jumping from fad to fad and missing the genuine eternal relationship with the Creator of this universe that we could have been having in place of some temporary insignificant fad. The antichrist will do the same kind of thing. He will occupy our time, continue to deceive our minds, promise us everything and not be able to deliver a single thing, then the fad is over until he can find something else that we or our kids think looks good.

When Jesus Christ was tempted, He was only tempted as we are today in three areas. The pride of life, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes. These were also the same temptations that Adam and Eve were tempted with. However, the difference between Christ and them is that He used The Word of God to ward off the devil. If you noticed, since Christ didn't give in to the devil, he left Him alone. We too can do that as a Christian, through the power of the Holy Spirit by quoting and memorizing scripture so we are prepared for when those temptations come. To many of us as the bible says are ignorant of the devils devices and don't recognize them when they are in plan sight. Why is this do you think? Because the dirty rotten devil is always keeping us occupied away from the Word of God with the hustle and bustle of the things of this world. The company that has made this game (Wizards of the Coast) and the other games that they make should be all the red flag we need to recognize that this is not the best thing that we or our kids should be involved in.
RPB
My response: Your points are well taken. I still find it hard to believe that Pokemon is part of a path to satanic conquest of the world. I know little about the Pokemon cards. The movie however, is a good example of Christ's death and resurrection in a very boring sort of way. I think I would rather call attention to the light in the darkness, rather than throw stones at the darkness. We view the world from different points of view. I see the God story in everything, you tend to see the work of Satan. Oh well, I do appreciate your faith, and commitment to a holy life that avoids evil. My God continue to bless you.

POKEMON CARDS MADE BY DEMONIC COMPANY
Subject: ....my opinion..
Date: Wed, 29 Dec 1999
From: gdsgrl

I had finally decided to buy my son some Pokemon cards since all the other kids had some. Then, after being advised to further check out Pokemon, I decided to fast and pray about it. After fasting, praying and seeking instruction from God, we burned the Pokemon cards. I received clear instruction from God that they were not something I wanted in my house.

Please check out the website for Wizards of the Coast. They are the makers of the Pokemon Cards. You will see from their website that they make other card games such as Dungeons and Dragons, Legends of the Five Rings, Burning Sands, Magic: The Gathering, and others - clearly demonic games. I really feel that by purchasing these game cards, people are unwittingly supporting a demonic company. I believe that just as the other card games are demonic in nature, it is only a matter of time before they try the same with the Pokemon cards.

I don't want anything in my house and especially around my children if there is even a possibility that it is opening a door to demonic forces in my children's lives. I believe the people of God need more discernment in their every day lives.

My advice to any one who may question this is ... just ask God. He is the lover of our soul. He wants what is best for us and He is the perfect one to ask since He knows the beginning and the end. God Bless.

My response: When your opinion becomes God's "clear instruction" discussion ends. To disagree with you would be to disagree with God. However, I am glad that you take parenting so seriously. I wish every parent was as concerned about good parenting as you are. God's blessings on you.

POKEMON: AN OCCULT FOR CHILDREN
Date: Fri, 10 Dec 1999
From: "Holly"

Anything, especially a movie, that promotes the occult as this Pokemon phenomena clearly does (the cards have occult symbols on them) should not be used to teach "spiritual truth." The reason I say this is because there are so many risks involved in taking a child to a movie like this and then using it as a springboard into a spiritual conversation. I'm wondering why I would subject my child to the occultic influence in the first place? Did you know that when the Pokemon TV show first appeared on the screen in Japan that 600 Japanese children had to be taken to hospital and later, 100's more went, with seizures from " the lights" on the show. What's that? Reference: www.prophecytoday.com Thank you for reading this.
All God's richest blessings,
Holly
My response: I check out the prophecy today web site and was not impressed by the arguments against Pokemon!
My response: I am not convinced that Pokemon leds to satanism. The 600 kids that went to the hospital, went due to the way Pokemon was edited and projected. Not because of demonic activity. No kid since has gone to the hospital because of Pokemon.

POKEMON ILLUSTRATES THE CONCEPT OF SPIRITUAL GIFTS
Date: Tue, 07 Dec 1999
From: "Matt"

As a youth pastor, I am always looking for ways to express the teaching of the Bible in ways which youth can relate to. Recently, at the General Assembly of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), I heard a sermon by a high school senior who used Pokemon to explain the concept of spiritual gifts. Each of the Pokemon have their strengths and weaknesses, as we do. God gives us gifts, but we need to let God develop those gifts in us. Pokemon need training, too. The training helps them accentuate their strengths and help them cope with their weaknesses. God's Spirit trains us to use our gifts and work through our weaknesses. We need to find, refine, and apply our gifts with God's help. While I may not be thrilled with all aspects of the Pokemon phenomenon, my junior high group had a good discussion one night about this and we made cards for ourselves. I believe in looking for any sources we can use to further our understanding of the gospel.

POKEMON, TRULY AWFUL
Subject: Sat through Pokemon
Date: Mon, 29 Nov 1999
From: Jeri & Kevin

I was miserable through the entire film. I considered it truly awful, but my 8 and 4 year olds sons enjoyed it a lot. Perhaps if I had looked a little harder, I would have seen the spritual side of it, and not been so miserable. Thank you for giving me a new insight in to this "film" and an opening to some wonderfull conversations with my sons.

POKEMON HARMS KIDS
Date: Wed, 24 Nov 1999
From: Brent

After logging on to worthynews.com you may have a change of mind about this popular phenon. I do not believe there is any good to come from pokemon, only harm. I have seen first hand what it is doing to kids. It is pure deception.

My response: Why is it that fads always seem to get the evil tag? Pokemon is like transformers, David Cassidy, pongs, pet rocks, and hula hoops, etc. They will pass harmlessly into nostalgia. BTW, what harm have you seen first hand? The Pokemon movie is a bore, no harm here. Real evil is all around us: racism, greed, violence, rape. We need not be looking at Pokemon.
