On
Confession
A
fault confessed is a new virtue added to a man.
--JAMES S. KNOWLES (17841862)
A
man should never be ashamed to own he has been in the wrong, which
is but saying, in other words, that he is wiser today than he
was yesterday.
--ALEXANDER POPE (16881744)
A man who confesses his sins in the presence of a brother knows
that he is no longer alone with himself; he experiences the presence
of God in the reality of the other person. As long as I am by
myself in the confession of my sins everything remains in the
dark, but in the presence of a brother the sin has to be brought
into the light.
--DIETRICH BONHOEFFER (19061945)
Confession
is to bring to light the unknown, the unconscious darkness, and
the underdeveloped creativity of our deeper layers.
--FRITZ KUNKEL
Forgiveness is always free. But that doesnt mean that confession
is always easy. Sometimes it is hard. Incredibly hard. It is painful
(sometimes literally) to admit our sins and entrust ourselves
to Gods care.
--ERWIN W. LUTZER (1941 )

James
5:16 (MsgB)
Make this your common practice: Confess your sins to each other
and pray for each other so that you can live together whole and
healed. The prayer of a person living right with God is something
powerful to be reckoned with.
The
radical biblical meaning of confession is acknowledgment
with a change of conviction and conduct. It is a public act. It
is a total involvement toward truth and harmony.
Confession,
the Bible teaches, places one in harmony with others.
1
John 1:9 (MsgB)
On the other hand, if we admit our sins—make a clean breast
of them—he won't let us down; he'll be true to himself.
He'll forgive our sins and purge us of all wrongdoing.
Psalm
32:5 (MsgB)
Then I let it all out;
I said, "I'll make a clean breast of my failures to God."
Suddenly the pressure was gone—
my guilt dissolved,
my sin disappeared.
Proverbs 28:13 (MsgB)
You can't whitewash your sins and get by with it;
you find mercy by admitting and leaving them.
