WHAT DID YOU THINK OF NOAH'S ARK ON NBC-TV?

This 4 hour mini series despite bad reviews, received a woopingly high rating. People loved it and hated it. But, watched it none the less. This demonstrates the incredible high interest in things biblical. I had friends who watched it, and after the initial Shock of bizarre combination of Bible stories, continued to enjoy it as a camp comedy.
HJ visitor Kevin Kirkpatrick writes, "I thought that it was a travesty of Biblical proportions. Unlike "The Prince of Egypt" "Noah" was no where near the Bible's account. In fact some friends and I are going to watch it again and hold a contest to see how many inaccuracies we can find. What a JOKE!!
Mary Steenburgen, who played Noah' wife, also co-starred with husband Ted Danson in the phenomenally successful miniseries "Gulliver's Travels." Steenburgen made it clear that one of the most powerful aspects of bringing a literary work (such as the bible) to the small screen is the interest in which it generates in the original printed word. "I had so many young people come to me and say that because of that miniseries [Gulliver's], they fell in love with the story and got turned onto the book. It's an amazing time to tell this story again, this message about our earth, about how we can take initiative in the millennium."
What’s wrong with this picture?
wpe218.jpg (7115 bytes)This is Noah, he is on a mountain top, like Moses!
God says, “I have some rather shocking news. Sodom and Gomorrah are going to be destroyed ...with fire and brimstone!”
Noah reminds God that Sodom is his home town. God says, “If you can find 10 truly righteous people Sodom is saved!”
wpe219.jpg (12179 bytes)This is Lot and his wife fleeing Sodom as it is destroyed with fire. Lot will later lead a rebel force against Noah and his ark.
wpe21A.jpg (14418 bytes)One positive thing can be said about the mini series, Abraham, err I mean Noah, and his wife had a great relationship.

NOAH'S ARK IS A DISGRACE
Date: Fri, 27 Oct 2000
From: joseph

i think that this fake portrayal of noah is an utter disgrace to the whole christian Family, after all if you know about God(Jesus), he is into family, not so much as "religion". the word religion has been so perverted and truly has no place in christianity. religion killed christ. So God adopted us as son's and daughters and called us his own. this perversion is the same as a movie perverting the Gospel( which means the good news) I teach sunday school and the responce i got was actually awesome. the kids were not even phased by this "so-called-spoof" of noah's ark. so just in case you think this movie is kewl or a good portrayal, i am here to tell you that u are a moron! yep that's right, a moron. I'll leave u with this, "he who changes the scripture, his name shall be removed from the book of life." don't mess with Jesus, He knows exactly what he is doing. MORON!!!!!!

NOAH'S ARK ON TV BRILLIANT, NO NEED TO BE UPTIGHT!
September 15, 1999. So many good things have been stopped due to inaccuracies. Ok, so what if Noah's Ark wasn't completely true? That is what poetic license is for!! The fact is that it was a BRILLIANT movie. How can people that believe in God be so judgmental on people that try, and make GREAT entertainment for the world? Would you rather that they make violent or pornographic movies for us to view? Someone has taken a great story and put it into a movie. Who are we to judge that wonderful type of creation?  At least the movie was down to earth, humourous and interesting. This is what makes people want to be involved in something. I know myself, although not accurate, the movie made it's point, it got me thinking. My opinion. Live and Let live, believing in God and bible stories is not about putting others down and criticizing them, it is about congratulating them on their efforts. The movie still got the same morals across that the original bible stories have, so ask yourself a question? Are morals better put in a fashion we cannot understand, with literature that can bore some of us to tears, or better off being put in a down to earth, well made movie with a few inaccuracies? I enjoyed it and thought it the best mini-series I have ever seen! The makers were creative, and as far as I thought, this is what God intended us to be, not judgmental dictators.

My response: Yeah, you are right!  It was good that they did the film.

RIPPING A BIBLE STORY WAS DONE BETTER BY SNL
May 18, 1999. I should have known when the first thing on the screen is the message that artistic license was used in the creation of the movie. The only thing it showed that I wasn’t aware of was that he released a black bird before the dove. The only compliment I can give is that it let me talk about the true biblical account with my two children. I praise my God that even my girls knew some inaccuracies. I read the story twice then the 2nd night I was able to discuss it with the family. My real problem is that it seems to have been written by new agers that want to alter and diminish the bible. they made too big a point about the sexual tensions of the unmarried couples. I made a strong point of the fact that they were married before the rain, to my girls. I thought the take-off of ripping a bible story was done a lot better by Saturday Night Live. The director says to just start talking and let the story build from there. It put the ark movie in it's place. –joe

TOO MANY LIBERTIES TAKEN WITH THE TRUTH
May 18, 1999. I teach Religion to young children at a private school. We're studying the O.T. so I thought this would be great for the classroom. There were such inaccuracies portrayed and liberties taken with the truth. Had it been marketed as a story, not as the story of Noah's Ark, I'd have felt more comfortable with it.

HOPE 25min. OF VIEWERSHIP DIDN'T BOOST RATINGS
May 18, 1999. My wife and I watched about 25 minutes of part 1. I had heard it did no justice to the Bible stories, but in the first scene wherein the mobs are chanting the names of their cities "Sodom" and "Gomorrah" (sp?) I knew it was going to be worse than I had imagined. We turned it off when Mrs. Noah said, "You can't trust those scribbledy scribes. They'll probably rewrite the story so that we weren't even here. I had wanted to watch it so that I could adequately respond to questions that might arise among my unsaved friends, but I just couldn't do it...it was that bad. I just hope my 25 minutes of viewership didn't boost the ratings. --Trent Smith

IF PORTRAYING A BIBLE STORY...
May 18, 1999. After the first episode, I couldn't stand to watch it. If you are going to portary a story in the bible please do it with some integrity and fact. You don't have to get very far in the book of Genesis to see that something was terribly wrong with this picture. --BethAnn

DID ANYONE READ THE STORY
May 17, 1999. Shame on NBC!
Did anyone even read the Bible story?

A TRAVESTY OF BIBLICAL PROPORTIONS
May 11, 1999. I thought that it was a travesty of Biblical proportions. Unlike "The Prince of Egypt", "Noah" was no where near the Bible's account. In fact some friends and I are going to watch it again and hold a constest to see how many inaccuracies we can find. What a JOKE!!

LONG LIST OF ERRORS
Greetings and Salutations in the Name of Jesus Christ! David, have you seen the mess that NBC made of the story of NOAH? Has anyone on your staff written a review on it. I am so enraged at the mess that they made of the biblical account that I plan on putting up a web page exposing the long list of errors and doctrinal perversions. Even though it may seem "after the fact" ,NBC is actively promoting the sale of the VIDEO for "NOAHS ARK". Please contact me and let me know of your opinion and further action in this regard.
P.S. I heard of you on "Decision Today".
