Life is Soccer Apologies to Football Fans Worldwide Melinda Ledman
After college, I gained about 20 lbs. sitting behind a desk for
eight hours a day and eating the same things I ate in college. I felt
gross, was tired all the time, and had lots of pent-up
aggression. I tried the gym. I tried jogging. I even made a pathetic
attempt at dieting. Then I realized that I needed to play a competitive
sport with a team full of players who expected me to show up.
One day, I was invited to play at an international corporation
headquartered in my city. It wasn't an official game, just a group of
players who wanted to kick the ball around on the recreational fields
behind the buildings. This group of players were from every nation except America. It was during those weekly practices that I discovered real soccer: real football-the kind of soccer that American football and baseball fans will probably never know or understand. The Silver Chair HJ's Narnia Coverage Continues
This Time Out, Narnia Mirrors Our World
Regina Doman | 03/13/08 Being a teenage Christian can be lonely, isolating, hard, murky, and
just downright frustrating. But the consolations are extraordinary, if
hard to explain - kind of like wearing a dress from another world. All
I know is that, like Jill's Narnian experience, I wouldn't have traded
it for the world.
A Tale Not So Much of Other Worlds
Andrew Townsend | 02/16/08 Eustace Scrubb has become a changed boy after his experience in The
Voyage of the Dawn Treader, and he is well prepared to help the
persecuted Jill Pole. When they get back from their adventure, Narnia's
influence on Experiment House is even stronger than before.
Also be sure to visit Mark Sommer's ongoing Narnia News blog!

Of Thrill... and Victory! The Latest Observations on Sport in Film Jacob Sahms
Semi-Pro
But Is Will Ferrell Really Ready to Rumble?
Jacob Sahms | 03/15/08 | Movies, Sports, Previews Regardless of what happens, I'm reasonably
confident that I'll laugh (at least once) so hard that it hurts, that
my popcorn will be buttered, and that I'll spend a relaxing hour and a
half forgetting the work of the last week and the worries of the world.
Never Back Down
Learning When to Step into the Ring and When to Walk Away
Elisabeth Leitch | 03/14/08 | Movies, Sports, Reviews As Never Back Down tells us several times,
"Everybody has their fight." But when we do fight, the question is, are
we fighting for something that is actually of value? And when a fight
is necessary, are we willing to take the risk and step into the ring?

New On DVD
Stargate: The Ark of Truth (2008)
A Letter from Old Friends
Melinda Ledman
After
checking in with these characters weekly to find out the latest news, I
found myself pretty invested in them. And after a ridiculous number of
years as a Stargate fan, I felt like five of my closest friends had
moved out of state... all at the same time.
No Country for Old Men (2007)
Best Picture You Shouldn't Watch
Deez
Seems like they sure got it right giving No Country for Old Men
the award for best picture. What we have here is at times a
surprisingly quiet, meditative movie that also happens to be very
bloody and extremely violent.
Dan in Real Life (2007)
It's Nice To Have Family
Yo
Dan's
column is all about putting family first. As a film, that's exactly
what Dan In Real Life does. Yes, Steve Carell is good in the movie, but
what's even better is that you won't feel guilty after watching this
movie; in fact, you might actually feel good.
Hitman (2007)
What Makes a Good Man?
Ed Travis
Agent
47 has never known anything but violence and killing, and when his
"family" disowns him, all he can do is kill, and ask questions. It is
to Agent 47's credit that he begins to ask such a core question: Am I a
good man?

Music, Books, Comix, TV, and Games
Our new Monthly News Services are almost all up and running. See the latest issues: Newsletter services for Books and Comix will be starting up later this month, too... But for now, read on:
Prince Caspian (audiobook)
J. Alan Sharrer | 03/14/08 | Books Before you run out to the theater on May
16th to see Prince Caspian, do yourself a favor: grab a copy of the
book and read it (or listen to the audio version). Your imagination
will thank you later.
Jesus for President
Aaron Lee | 03/14/08 | Books, Previews The presidential election season grows
longer every four years, and ever since I've been able to vote, I've
longed for it to finally come to an end. Can Claiborne and Haw and
their sense of humor help the faithful be more focused this election
year?
Stranger in Paradise
Jacob Sahms | 03/14/08 | Books, Previews I think I love Parker's novels because the
good guys are good, but not perfect. There's plenty of gray to go
around, plenty of nebulous righteousness, and plenty of evil to dig
through and explore. He knows what his strengths are and he depends on
them for survival.
Blasphemy
Jacob Sahms | 03/10/08 | Books, Reviews Isabella-the supercomputer in Blasphemy,
offers a quote that I think could spawn a great philosophy class
discussion: "The future is-and must be-profoundly hidden, even from
God. Otherwise, existence would have no meaning."
Doctor Who #1
Sterling Jones | 03/12/08 | Comix, Reviews If you already know and love the television
show, then you want to know whether this comic is worth $4.00 and
twenty minutes of your precious reading time. The short answer: No. But
the paper! Wow... that's some nice paper.
