HJAG 2007 Report Impressions of 3 Days in Renton
Associate Editor Elisabeth Leitch
Throughout the weekend, I had the chance to meet
both HollywoodJesus readers and writers who I had not met before. I
reunited with fellow writers and friends I had met before. I listened
to speakers from among our staff and from outside of HollywoodJesus.
And in every interaction, I have to say, I was blown away. Each
discussion amazed me with how many different insights, connections, and
lessons could be drawn from any given story or idea. Each conversation
I shared left me in awe of the valuable backgrounds, perspectives, and
ideas every single person had to give. And each speaker sent me onto
the next wanting to go out and study more, learn more, and do whatever
I can to better connect with the stories we deconstruct, the God who
informs them, and the world into which they are born.
It was a time of communion, connection, sharing,
and learning. But to me, the entire weekend was more than anything else
a humbling and energizing experience that made me realize how glad I am
to have as many insightful and talented people behind HollywoodJesus as
we do and even more thankful to know that each of us who dares to bring
our insights to HollywoodJesus need not fear our weaknesses and
limitations but instead remember that even though our words, knowledge,
and efforts are important, it is and always will be God's hand behind
us that matters most.
As a part of HollywoodJesus, I have to admit there
are times when I wonder if have any business being involved in it all.
I doubt what I have to offer and I question the value of what I am able
to bring. And so to HJAG07 and everyone who was a part of it, I thank
you for being sources of strength, people of encouragement, and living
examples of the truth that in the pursuit of God's wisdom and
excellence we can become everything he desires us to be so that we
might be able to reach out to the world and each other and actually
make a difference.
Also from TV Editor Melinda Ledman: HJAG was a smorgasbord of unique
personalities and industry professionals. Not only were the sessions
engaging and insightful, the people and their stories were compelling. It
was a privilege and an honor to hear the thoughts of each individual speaker and
attendee. After years of writing with many of these contributors, it was
fantastic to put faces with the names and hearts that show up at HJ each week. And
we were graced with the experience and knowledge of others who contribute to
the greater community of Christ in the media as well. A combination of
education, camaraderie and film criticism, HJAG was all I could have wanted to
end 2007 and begin a bright, new year. Thanks to all who presented and
attended the gathering. You blessed my heart and soul with your presence!
Be sure to visit Elisabeth's original post at HJ Live and read additional comments there.
Also, put HJAG on your calendar for the 2008 edition: December 29-31, once more in Renton.
Watch for possible announcement of a midyear event, too!

The Week in Movies
There Will Be Blood
Elisabeth Leitch | 01/04/08 If ever there was a movie that was also a
force of nature, There Will Be Blood would be that movie. To watch it
is to slowly be surrounded by dark clouds and thrashing winds. Its
characters are some of the most destructive elements of all creation.
Best of 2007
Darrel Manson | 01/03/08 2007 was a pretty decent year; I'll give
it a B+. But it's not all that hard to make my year end list. There are
some excellent films that don't make the Dozen, but I feel strongly
that all the ones that do make the list really belong there.
Honeydripper
Darrel Manson | 01/01/08 We often struggle with change going on
around us. We live in a future shock world. Everything changes before
we even know it's happening. That cusp between the past and the future
is an ever shrinking now.
The Kite Runner
Darrel Manson | 12/30/07 My sins are like the highest mountain; My good deeds are very few; They're like a small pebble. |

New, Music, Books, and Games Articles
Rising From The Pain
Jacob Sahms | 01/05/08 | Music Overall, the band consistently rocks, as
they have before. It's not a huge departure from who those guys have
been for the last ten-plus years, but it's a good outing in a genre
that they've excelled in and dominated.
Two-Way Rapper
Jacob Sahms | 01/01/08 | Music Maybe it's true that the poverty and crime
in the world won't end until Jesus walks again, but I'd hope that
famous individuals like Mr. West would influence change rather than
playing the game.
Born Standing Up
J. Alan Sharrer | 01/03/08 | Books Steve Martin received an important piece of
advice from a friend: "If you have anything to work out with your
parents, do it now. One day it will be too late." And for the next
fifteen years Martin set out to do just that. Burnout Paradise
Yo | 01/03/08 | Games, Previews Burnout Paradise is a radical redesign of
one of the fastest and most successful racing franchises around. Are
the changes for the better, or is this franchise about to end in a
spectacular wreck similar to the one's the game has become so well
known for?
Madden '08
Yo | 01/03/08 | Games, Blogs We decide to put the ultimate football
simulator to the test to see if we can predict who will come out on top
this weekend in the playoffs. Read on to see our results and let us
know if you think they're accurate.
HJ Playbox
Yo | 01/03/08 | Games, Analysis As the writer's strike continues here in
the early portion of 2008, the lack of fresh episodes on TV can only
help an already exploding gaming industry. Analysts see televisions
loss as gaming's gain.
Xbox 360
Yo | 01/03/08 | Games, News Bill Gates makes is final appearance as
head of Microsoft at the Consumer Electronics Show this year. There's
already rumblings that part of is keynote speech will be the revelation
of... something. What will it be? A new 360 with Wi-Fi and HD-DVD?
