Music Worth Buying I Can't Find Myself Agreeing with Walmart Jacob Sahms, HJ Music Editor
In my Internet wanderings lately, I came across
two correlating articles about the "state of the music business." One
concerned the fear of many major record labels that people weren't
buying enough music, and one reported that the superstore chain Walmart
had issued an ultimatum to the record companies: "Lower your prices or
we'll stop carrying your albums."
Maybe Walmart's right. Maybe more people would buy
albums if they didn't cost so much, or if, bands employed the marketing
move of Radiohead, and offered their albums for what fans were willing
to pay for them.
I offer a simpler suggestion...

Gnarls Barkley
Jacob Sahms | 04/19/08 | Click to Comment Gnarls Barkley drops The Odd Couple, my
most anticipated album of 2008. Critics are drilling it: will I be let
down by the music world, again? For now, I'll have to hold onto hope,
and enjoy the music.
Solomon Burke
Jacob Sahms | 04/17/08 | Click to Comment Solomon Burke busts it loose with a few
songs for the ages, and a little bit of help from his friends. It's an
engaging album, and one that will provide hope, and some good music, to
while away the hours.
Jon Foreman
Nate Watts | 04/12/08 I was ready to give up on the album after
four sub-par tracks, but "Your Love is Strong" brought with it a bit of
redemption. Jon Foreman's third EP, Spring, doesn't quite herald in
what the first two seasons did, but it does leave us hoping for Summer.
Matt Maher
Jacob Sahms | 04/09/08 | Click to Comment The author of "Your Grace Is Enough" lets
it all roll down in his new studio album. Matt Maher's style is upbeat,
passionate, and musically sound; and luckily enough, we get to hear him
sing his own song on this album.
P.O.D.
Jacob Sahms | 04/08/08 | Click to Comment P.O.D. rises, reunited and refreshed, with
When Angels & Serpents Dance, to rock your stereo. In a world that
talks about peace all the time, but is rarely practiced, P.O.D.
genuinely pursues it, and genuinely rocks.
Rosey
Jacob Sahms | 04/07/08 | Click to Comment Rosey's Luckiest Girl appeared in
my mailbox one day, and having finally gotten to listen to it, I must
say it's not really my cup o' tea. But the album itself stays true to
her voice and what she seems to want to accomplish, and maybe even won
over a new fan.
Fireflight
Jacob Sahms | 04/05/08 | Click to Comment Unbreakable is definitely an improvement
from the first one, and one that I think will draw much attention. It's
enjoyable and passionate and forceful in its honesty and hope. That's a
combination that I will find myself seeking out over and over again.
Jason Mraz
Nate Watts | 04/04/08 | 1 Comment Jason Mraz provides a "sneak preview" of
his upcoming studio album, We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things, keeping
us in suspense for the full reveal in two months.
Every Avenue
Jacob Sahms | 04/03/08 Click to Comment Every Avenue's first full-length album on Fearless Records, Shh... Just Go With It,
reveals more punk-pop songs with the same upbeat flair that they showed
on their EP. Fronted by David Ryan, the band's sound echoes Cartel,
All-American Rejects, and Jimmy Eat World.
Anti-Flag
Jacob Sahms | 04/01/08 | Click to Comment Politico-punks Anti-Flag examine the lesser
lights of America, but they're still hopeful that we can change, and
that brings me joy. The band certainly rocks hard, and their gritty
evaluation of loss and heartache has value.
