Clearing Out the Cracks Nate Watts, Music Editor
I've never been the typical music fan. I'm not the type that just
waits to hear a song on the radio and tries to figure out who sings
that catchy new song. I'm usually the guy that has to be the first to
hear it and be the one who can answer all my friends when they ask "Oh,
yeah who sings that one about...?" Maybe it's a selfish desire to feel
important, or maybe it's just wanting to spread my love for music to
those closest to me, but it's been in me since probably sixth grade
when I started listening to pop radio.
Now, almost eighteen years later, here I am the music editor of an
amazing website dedicated to sharing music, movies, and other media to
the world through a Christian perspective. I had no idea what an
undertaking it would be like to filter through all the music that comes
out every month, but I know there have been more than a couple great
CD's that have slipped through the cracks since taking over the reins
in January from Jacob Sahms, the master himself. Here are a few I
missed... Click through for more about Phil Wickham, Train, Brenton Brown and Catalyst Music Project |

Johnny Cash
The Legend Lives On
February 26th saw the release of the last of Johnny Cash's American Recordings album series, American VI: Ain't No Grave, on
what would have been his 78th birthday.
In 1997, Cash was diagnosed with the neurodegenerative
disease, Shy-Drager Syndrome and from there on, his career took an
interesting turn. Always a great musical storyteller, his new stories
focused on tales of redemption and ponderings of life, death, and
finally meeting his Maker.
Sensing his own frailty and
knowing his time on Earth was short, he dedicated the last 4 months of
his life to recording and it was the only thing keeping him going. He
had producer Rick Rubin close at hand, as well as studio musicians who
could come record with him on days when he felt able. The results were
the posthumous release American V: A Hundred Highways, featuring "God's Gonna Cut You Down," and American VI, which will be the last of the series.
On American VI, there is such frailty in Cash's songs, but still an amazing inner strength that shines through, despite his illness.
