Who's Got Your Back?
Elisabeth Leitch

Although I would be slightly worried about getting arrested for possession, I would be happy to call Harold and Kumar my friends. For whatever might come our way, I could always count on them to stand by me, make me smile, and love me just as I am.

Octogenarian Rock Stars
Darrel Manson

For the time we watch the film, we share in their triumphs and in their sorrows. But mostly we get to share a bit of the life that they have found in music. I was reminded how much music expresses so much more than we ever realize.

Nice to be Needed
Elisabeth Leitch

As my pregnant friend said while the credits rolled, even though her fast approaching role of Mommy has filled her with some anxiety, Baby Mama reminded her just how amazing her journey ahead and the tiny new partner with whom she will be sharing it will truly be.

content pic Deception
Are You Free Tonight?
Elisabeth Leitch

Just as much as Deception begins as a story about the dangers of leaving our emptiness open to the many temptations and false promises of evil, it ends as a story about the true promise of love's ability to defeat evil and fill our emptiness with life.

What's in Your Hand?
Elisabeth Leitch

No matter what tournaments we enter and what tables we sit around, the most important lesson we can ever learn may be that the most valuable triumphs will often be in the plays and decisions that don't bring us anywhere near a trophy.

content pic The Life Before Her Eyes
Wounds That Never Heal
Tim Berroth

The herky-jerky narrative robs the film of any suspense. The misery is unbearable considering that there is no glimmer of hope to alleviate their suffering. In the end, The Life Before Her Eyes paints a dark, hopeless picture of human existence.

The Chronicles of Narnia Continue May 16

In less than a month, the much-anticipated sequel to The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe comes to local theaters...  And at HJ, we're more than ready.

For months now, Mark Sommer has been covering all the Narnia News that's fit to print, and he'll be at the film's premiere in New York City next weekend, interviewing cast and crew... and blogging the event more or less as it happens.  Be sure to check in regularly at HJ's Narnia News blog this coming Friday for updates about what Mark is seeing and hearing.

Also be sure to check out the work of novelist Regina Doman and Andrew Townsend at HJ's Narnia Features.  The two have been covering the entire seven books of the Chronicles; just this week, they've wrapped up analysis of The Magician's Nephew, and next week move on to The Last Battle... just in time for the debut of Prince Caspian on May 16.

Of This and Other Worlds
Andrew Townsend | 04/12/08 | Click to Comment
Business theory, engineering, astronomy, and literature are all tools to help us understand the universe we live in; and some of the theories help us to improve the world we live in, too. The Magician's Nephew is perhaps just giving us a new way of looking at reality.

Waging A Personal War
Yo Snyder

There was a time when the USSR seemed like an unstoppable force of nature; and then it hit the mountains of Afghanistan. It was here where the mighty Red Army met its match in an unlikely foe that was being armed through the efforts of one man.

content pic Lars and the Real Girl
Real Girls, Real World
Jacob Sahms

The movie works because of Gosling's talent, but the realism of Lars' extended "family" provides the movie with its life. How far would you go to include someone else who seemed left out? That question gets torn up and thrown away by Jesus.

content pic The Cutting Edge 3: Chasing the Dream
Inspire, Skate, Dream
Jacob Sahms

This is one of those movies that critics hate, but preadolescents with unfulfilled dreams will love, and so will many of their parents. The movie is cheesy, predictable, and absolutely dull... But like Zack and Alex, knows it's audience and succeeds.
