Of Thrill... and Victory! The Latest Observations on Sport in Film Elisabeth Leitch, Associate Editor
Run, Fat Boy, Run
Life Lessons from the Back of the Pack
Elisabeth Leitch | 03/28/08 | Movies, Sports | Click to Comment We live in a world where every step we take
is about more than just us. We live in a reality where our lives were
created with a purpose that only grows the longer we run. We are in the
hands of a loving God who cares too much to watch us give up.

How Sports Feed Our Souls
Darrel Manson | 03/23/08 | Movies, Sports | Click to Comment "I've worshipped Buddha, Allah, Brahma,
Vishnu, Siva, trees, mushrooms and Isadora Duncan. I know things. For
instance, there are 108 beads in a Catholic rosary and there are 108
stitches in a baseball. When I heard that I gave Jesus a chance."

Stop-Loss (2008)
To Flee or To Follow?
Elisabeth Leitch
In a world where war exists whether we like it or not, where nothing is
ever as simple as being for or against, and where we must sometimes
deal with things we would rather not have to, often the only thing we
can do is simply to be there for each other.
21 (2008)
"Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner?"
Matt Hill
As overt as all the teaching really is in 21, it seems that this is how
modern America teaches itself morality. Maybe, like Jesus, we have
realized that if you want to teach someone how to behave, the best way
to do it is usually to tell a cautionary tale like this one.
My Brother Is An Only Child (2008)
Sibling Rivalry in the Political World
Darrel Manson
To make the world a better place as both Manrico and Accio were trying
to do can often lead us not to bettering the world, but rather add to
the suffering of the world. Both get lost for a time in their way to a
better world. Only one finds the way back.
Beaufort (2008)
Nobility Amid Futility
Darrel Manson
Beaufort is a collection of contrasts. The film itself is a contrast:
it is anti-war, but also supportive of the soldiers who must fight in
war. Such films help us to appreciate the nobility of those in armed
forces even if we may think the jobs given to them are wrong.

Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed New "SteinWatch" Feature Launched
On April 18, Ben Stein's new documentary Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed arrives
in theaters across the country. Already the film, which alleges that a
Darwinian establishment controls the scientific community and seeks to
unethically suppress alternative views such as Intelligent Design, is
stirring a great controversy.
SteinWatch at Hollywood Jesus will bring
you daily news about the film and its promotion... plus a selection of
thoughts on Darwinianism and Intelligent Design from none other than
George Bernard Shaw.
Host Greg Wright, HJ's Managing Editor, has seen the film and also spoken with virulent ID critic P.Z. Myers.

03/30/08 | Editorials| 1 Comment I caution us all to neither celebrate Expelled unthinkingly because,
like other pigs, it's a pig; nor to dismiss it as a mere pig, because
it's a snowflake, too. And I think if you examine it closely you'll
find that what you do with it after you've touched it can be very
enriching.
03/28/08 | News | 5 Comments I'm blogging this live... And in the middle of Motive's telecon,
Meyers somehow managed to crash the call... and interject himself into
the Q&A with Stein, Ruloff, Logan, and Mathis! After he made some
accusations of lies and doing the "dishonorable thing," Meyers did ring
off.
03/27/08 | Editorials | Comment Here In the interest of fair play, I feel compelled to give equal airtime
(and critique) to Gary Chapman's account of Expelled... particularly
given that a good chunk of his commentary is devoted to rebuttal of
Dawkins' and Meyers' comments last weekend.
03/26/08 | Editorials | 1 Comment If there's a market for Expelled, and that remains to be seen, it's
with people who are tired of intellectually bullying... and maybe that's
you. Those who don't want you to see Expelled are as dictatorial as the
worst Sunday School teacher.
03/24/08 | News | 5 Comments From an editor's standpoint, the public response to this incident is
the most bilious that I've seen since The Passion of the Christ, far
out-stripping the brouhaha over The Golden Compass. Expelled is shaping
up to be quite a cultural milestone. |

Walk the Line: Extended Cut (2008)
Extended Cut Now Out
CoachZ
Walk the Line
is very much about Jesus. And what is amazing is I can't recall his
name mentioned once, but it is still about him. Specifically it is
about how Jesus came after sinner extraordinaire Johnny Cash through
June Carter and her family. |
