While most of us aren't quite as reclusive as Carl, the truth is that most of us would probably have to admit to too often closing doors without consideration. It may not be what we're actually thinking when we turn down a first date, decline a Friday night invitation, or make no effort to move forward professionally, but many of the doors we close may have more to do with our inability to believe in the value of life, others, or ourselves than any sort of solid logic. And in the same way that Carl realizes the power of being open to the potential within himself and in all that surrounds him, so should we.

At the end of it all, Yes Man is a story that points to a reality that is bigger than both our greatest fears and our finest logic. As Bundley tells his seminar participants, "Opportunities may come in any form." Even if we carefully weigh every decision we make, as we see in Carl's life, some of the most positive life events come about through means he never could have planned. Really, who would guess that giving a homeless man a ride, going to watch a stranger's band, and running out of gas would all add up to meeting the love of your life? That the Korean language would be the key to patching up a friendship? Or that learning how to play guitar would save a man's life? Certainly not me. But I'm going to say that God probably would.

As Paul says in Romans 8:26-28 (The Message): "&ellips;God's Spirit is right alongside helping us along. If we don't know how or what to pray, it doesn't matter. He does our praying in and for us, making prayer out of our wordless sighs, our aching groans. He knows us far better than we know ourselves, knows our pregnant condition, and keeps us present before God. That's why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good." But no matter how wise, powerful, and all-knowing our God may be, the truth remains that His wisdom will only be able to steer our lives if leave our hearts open to His guidance and trust that even His most seemingly incomprehensible directions will lead us to exactly where we are meant to be
