Greater Love Has No One but This

It is in this place that the herd meets yet another lost soul, a one-eyed weasel named Buck. He warns them all of the danger that awaits them in this new place. Not only is Sid in danger from the mother of the young dinosaurs he stole, but also there is another far more vicious and dangerous beast lurking in the shadows that will certainly kill Sid if he succeeds in finding him before his friends do. After hearing of the danger Sid is in, Manny begins to realize how all the talk of his new family may have pushed Sid away and starts to feel responsible and like a bad friend for allowing Sid to get into all of this mess. Buck points out though that Manny has just put his own life and even the safety of his new family into extreme danger's way in order to save Sid. That is not something that bad friends do. Putting your own life at risk to save someone else not only makes you a good friend, but a "darn good friend."

Christ himself says the same thing in John 15:13 when speaking about a man's great love for his friends. "Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends." It takes great love to risk one's own life for the life of a friend, and this is a great lesson that they all learn in the end. Taking care of your friends and true family is sometimes more important than being independent and alone. This is an important thing not just for Manny, Diego, and Sid, members of an unusual herd, to learn, but for all of us and the young ones we will bring to see this film. Risking our own safety and comfort in order to save one of our friends exemplifies the love Christ had for us when he laid down his life for us. Praise God for examples like this that show us the importance of concerning ourselves with the needs of others above our own and what it means to be a truly good friend
