Somebody's Watching Me
Yo
"I always feel like somebody's watching me." (DC Talk from the song Somebody's Watching Me).I don't know how many of you are familiar with the Christian rap/rock group DC Talk, but that song seems like it would provide a good theme for the new movie Eagle Eye. Granted, I haven't seen the film itself yet, but from the previews it would seem that much of the plot centers on the idea of somebody being able to see and monitor everything we do. Is that merely an uncomfortable possibility in our technological advanced society or is it an uncomfortable reality that's been true since the dawn of human existence? A few months back, I read a fascinating article in Popular Science. The author of this article wanted to know if it was possible to remain completely anonymous in today's high-tech, info driven world. From credit cards to drivers licenses to account PINs and more, what he discovered was that it's almost impossible today to go "off the grid." Even someone really dedicated to making sure their personal info is kept private won't be able to remain 100% anonymous in today's society and still be able to live a fairly normal life. It was an intriguing and disturbing thing to discover, especially considering how many of us don't pay a lot of attention to just how much of our personal information we let float away in the digital ether. Of course the deep-seated fear most Americans have is that their identity will be stolen or that the government is secretly monitoring all we do. Eagle Eye appears to capitalize on that paranoia.
