After more than thirty years since the release of Escape to Witch Mountain and Return from Witch Mountain, the infamous mountain returns in the latest installment, Race to Witch Mountain. With an (almost) entirely new cast and crew, this film holds true to the title and is a race from beginning to end. Theatergoers of all ages will be locked in to the action from the first scene as the fast-paced film moves quickly through a dynamic story full of twists and turns. It is a very exciting ride that will entertain children and adults alike, a feature that can sometimes be absent from a film marketed so directly toward a younger audience. Even I unexpectedly caught myself moving to the edge of my seat as the story unfolded, which was pleasantly surprising.

Jack Bruno is a rough-around-the-edges Las Vegas cab driver in search of a more fulfilling life than his troubled past. We learn early on that he has had a less-than-honest background and was previously employed by some shady businessmen in the Las Vegas underworld. He is attempting to turn his life around, though, and to start off has taken a legitimate job driving a taxi and is in search of attaining the things he wants the honest way this time around. He is in his taxi when he meets the first of three people that will change his life around forever.: Dr. Alex Friedman, an astrophysicist who is in Las Vegas to speak on the existence of life on other planets at a UFO convention. Although they speak only briefly in this first encounter, Jack quickly dismisses her as just another nut-job who believes in the impossible and absurd.

The next two people he encounters are Sara and Seth, two normal-looking kids who are in an extraordinary situation and have paranormal abilities.

After the kids convince Jack to drive them to their destination by waving thousands of dollars in front of him, he quickly realizes that something is definitely not right. These kids are not who they appear to be. Although he doesn't really trust the situation, and Sara and Seth definitely do not have any faith in him, Jack feels he has an obligation to protect them. They are still just kids, and as the situation surrounding them gets increasingly more dangerous Jack feels the most important thing to do is to keep them safe, regardless of who they are or where they come from.

In regards to where they come from, though, Jack is in for the surprise of his life. He does not believe them when they tell him they are from a different planet and are here on a mission to save their people from extinction. His disbelief continues to increase until finally the kids show him proof of their abilities, which include moving things with their mind, reading minds, and walking through walls. Only when he sees the physical evidence of their power does Jack finally believe.

This brings to mind the plight of our Savior when he came to earth and no one believed in Him. Even after He defeated death and was raised again to life, people still looked for explanations elsewhere. Only after he provided physical signs and proof did people begin to believe, hence His words in John 20:29, "Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed."
