Preview Right after God created the earth and everything in it, He declared that everything was good or very good... except for one thing; people should not be alone (Gen 2:18). Okay, He actually said it is not good for the man to be alone, but I think the concept is true about people in general.

Nim's Island presents a paradise-type world where a father and a daughter, after traumatically losing their wife/mother, decide to live the secluded island life of Robinson Crusoe or Gilligan. I'm the practical type, so I start thinking about things like: How does she go to school? or What happens if one of them gets very ill? In other words, don't they need other people?

I think community is written in our hearts by a God who is triune, or three in one. We need each other, as Nim and her father find out. In comes agoraphobic/obsessive-compulsive writer Alex Rover and you have the makings of a great tale where two parties that struggle with living with others learn they need to do just that. There is a little romance throw in, too.

Great fun for the whole family!

Extra Features Nothing super special about these; they are pretty run of the mill:
  • Nim's Friends featturette
  • Abigails Journey featturette
  • Working on Water featturette (this showed the way they trained Breslin to film underwater)
  • Deleted Scenes (I actually thought most of these should have been in there so the movie makes sense)
  • Various commentaries
