STUDIO SYNOPSIS
From Disney•Pixar comes "Up," a comedy adventure about 78-year-old balloon salesman Carl Fredricksen, who finally fulfills his lifelong dream of a great adventure when he ties thousands of balloons to his house and flies away to the wilds of South America. But he discovers all too late that his biggest nightmare has stowed away on the trip: an overly optimistic 9-year-old Wilderness Explorer named Russell. From the Academy Award®-nominated director Pete Docter ("Monsters, Inc."), Disney•Pixar's "Up" invites you on a hilarious journey into a lost world, with the least likely duo on Earth. "Up" will be presented in Disney Digital 3-D™ in select theaters. SPIRITUAL POINT OF VIEW (includes video) Here is an amazing story about loss and the grief that inevitable follows. The camera follows Carl from childhood and through his wonderful marriage. Sadly he suffers enormous loss of his beloved wife. We continue on this emotional journey as Carl isolates himself from the rest of the world inside his lonely house. Even his house is isolated. The new construction surrounding his house is symbolic of the new life construction that awaits Carl. When little Russell comes knocking at Carl’s front door everything begins to change. The door serves as the visible division between Carl’s loneliness and the amazing new life that awaits him. When Carl responds to the knock at the door, things begin to change. Even though he does try to close the door on the little boy, his foot is already in the door. Change has entered the Carl’s life. When the door to new and up-lifting life is opened …WOW! And this is exactly what UP is about. Here is a powerful story of loss, grief, loneliness, and the affirming response to new life. Here is life, death and resurrection presented as only Pixar can.
