Synopsis:
Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed starring Ben Stein follows his journey around the globe where he discovers that scientists, educators and philosophers are being persecuted in a modern day witch hunt because they dare to go against the theory of evolution. These pillars of education are being fired, ridiculed and ostracized for merely challenging Darwin’s theory, proposing that life on this planet could be a part of some intelligent design and not random chance.

This thought-provoking film not only forces us to question what we have been taught but challenges us to ask -- what else is being kept from us?

I recently had a chance to catch a screening of Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed, and all I have to say is this: if the National Academy of Sciences felt like they had put in the final word in the debate over our origins earlier this year when they stated that the evidence for evolution was overwhelming and compelling, apparently the producers of Expelled didn't get that memo because this April they're firing back with a film the not only exposes some of the weakness of the Darwinian theory of evolution, but also suggests there should be the freedom in our public schools to hear other theories, such as Intelligent Design.

Whatever you may be expecting from this film, don't expect an extensive explanation of what Intelligent Design is or isn't. That's not covered here. If you'd really like to hear more about what Intelligent Design is and how it differs from Creation Science, visit m88.org/rawtalk.asp (website for a Christian radio station) and scroll down to a podcast called Intelligent Design vs. Biblical Creationism to listen to a podcast that covers that very issue.

What is covered in Expelled is the need to have the freedom to hear more than one point of view, the freedom to be able to examine the evidence for more than just one theory, the freedom to think and decide for ourselves. The sad fact is that any other opinion or thought that focuses on anything other than evolution is often ridiculed and sometimes worse. Expelled examines some of things that have happened in the fight to have anything other than evolution considered in the science classroom. It's sad, really, that so-called objective scientists seem so determined to prevent objective science from taking place; but a quick glimpse at the news in the past decade or so show that's exactly what's been happening.

Just so you know, I believe that the earth was formed exactly the way the Bible says it was, and there's plenty of scientific evidence to back that up. That's not to say that I disagree with the Intelligent Design movement, just that I don't believe it goes far enough. While I admire the scientific standards of the Intelligent Design movement, I disagree with them in one important way: I believe the identity of the creator or the intelligence that created us is very important.

It's important to know who created us, not just that we were created. It's important because it makes God personable, relatable and even loveable. It's important because it gives us meaning and purpose for our lives, which neither evolution nor Intelligent Design does.

So get ready: the debate over or origins is about to heat up once more when Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed hits theaters this April. But also keep in mind that in the midst of that debate the real issue, our purpose in exisiting, is overlooked by both sides. The only place you'll find an intelligent answer to that is in the Bible.
