Synopsis:
Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed starring Ben Stein follows his journey around the globe where he discovers that scientists, educators and philosophers are being persecuted in a modern day witch hunt because they dare to go against the theory of evolution. These pillars of education are being fired, ridiculed and ostracized for merely challenging Darwin’s theory, proposing that life on this planet could be a part of some intelligent design and not random chance.

This thought-provoking film not only forces us to question what we have been taught but challenges us to ask -- what else is being kept from us?

Paul Lauer: Ben, are you with us?

Ben Stein:  Yes.  Well, I hope I am, yes.

Walt Ruloff:  Yes, you are.

Ben Stein: I hope I am, yes.

Paul Lauer:  Metaphysically speaking?

Ben Stein:  I am with you every way.

Paul Lauer:   Ben, what impact has this project had on you—spiritually, and in any other way you might want to share?

Ben Stein: One: I’ve made some very good friends—including Walt and his merry band of men and women. Two: I have been stunned at the holes in Darwinism, and the fact that Darwinism, it seems to me, just misses so much of what’s going on. And, three: I’ve been amazed at the rancor and anger that this whole subject generates. I’ve already gotten a lot of angry hate e-mails and I am expecting a lot more.  And, four: I am astonished at the intelligence of the Intelligent Design thinkers who are doing such great work.   I’ve been amazed at Steven Meyer and many others of his ilk, so it’s been an impressive journey and one that I think has just begun.
Paul Lauer:  And, despite the hate mail that you’ve received Ben, what is gonna keep you going on this campaign?

Ben Stein:  Well, Walt won’t let me stop.  Walt under—

Walt Ruloff: Come on, Ben.  No—

Ben Stein:  No, I think you could say, I’m gonna keep going on it because I think we’re missing something extremely basic in our understanding of the world, and how it got created; and I’d like us to return to that.  And, I think, by returning to those bigger subjects of how the world got created and what our place in the world is, we will find a new moral fence which is very much lacking.  I mean, this country is a country which is a terribly rich country, despite what may be a recession. We’re a terribly rich country, we’re a very technologically advanced country; but we’re a country that’s lost its way morally and we may be able to take a tiny little contribution towards helping it finding its way back morally, improving the lives of people as they have a bigger morality—bigger and clearer and more sure moral compass in their lives.

Thanks to Motive Entertainment for providing the transcript of their January 22 teleconference with Ben Stein and Walt Ruloff. The full, unabridged telecon is available from Gotham Conference in podcast form. Expelled is scheduled to release in April.
