30 Minutes or Less is an upcoming stoner comedy starring Jesse Eisenberg. The movie also has Danny McBride, who plays Dwayne, a slacker type who hires a hitman to kill his father for the insurance money. Following that, or because of (we're not sure) that, he and his sidekick Travis (Nick Swardson) kidnap stoner pizza delivery driver Nick (Jesse Eisenberg), strap a bomb to his chest, and force him to rob a bank. It sounds like a horrifying premise, but it's a comedy. As a friend of ours once pointed out, the difference between tragedy and comedy is measured solely by whether or not you care about the characters.

Honestly, the movie looked funny at first, but then we watched the uncensored trailer. Now it looks as if the use of profanity IS the punchline, which is never a good sign. We seem to be in the same territory as Your Highness; i.e. Danny McBride is in the movie, and the filmmakers presume we all have an inner thirteen-year-old waiting to sneak into an R rated flick.

It's hard to find what the spiritual message in this trailer is. The best thing that we can think of is that the message would have to be choosing the right thing. In Nick's case, is it going to the police, or is it going through with the bank robbery?

30 Minutes or Less opens August 12th.
