DELIVER US FROM EVIL
lost_souls2.jpg (24621 bytes)SYNOPSIS:
In a modern thriller in which faith battles reason, Ryder plays a young woman who becomes aware of a conspiracy to enable the Devil to walk the earth in human form. To defeat the prophecy, she must convince a respected New York crime journalist (Chaplin), who is devoid of faith, that he is in fact the target of the conspiracy.

"Lost Souls is a powerful contemporary thriller that gives us the opportunity to go beyond the confines of the supernatural genre," says director Kaminski. "I was drawn to the material because it is a strong character piece which allows for examination of the nature of faith in our society, while still providing exhilarating thrills."

FIGHTING EVIL
Review by DAVID BRUCE
Web Master HollywoodJesus.com

Lost Souls is a realization of our inability to confront the Evil Forces that plague our world. How can we bring Evil to an end?

The entire 20th century has passed --and science, government, police, and the military could not put a final end to the Evils in this world. With Hitler we said "No more!" Nonetheless, such horrific violence has happened again and again. What we are coming to realize is that there is an Evil that operates outside the realm of human understanding. It's real and it's problematic. Worse still, it is bent on the destruction of the human race.

Lost Souls is a reflection of this increasing realization.

The movie was shot on high contrast film. This produces extreme darks and lights suggesting Good and Evil. Very stylistic.

The main character, Maya, believes in the forces of both God and Satan. She believes that the anti-Christ is about to surface. It is up to her to save the world from the anti-Christ

She is alone in her belief. Not even the Church believes her. This is a typical story line reflecting our culture's intellectual discomfort with what we know to be true deep in our soul.

The film is very similar to End Of Days. In fact, so much so that it was pulled from release in 1999 and held back until October "Friday the 13th" 2000. Further, the critics did not like this film. And, the ending is not real satisfying. The film has a lot working against it. Nevertheless, it is a true reflection of the cultural shift to a more spiritual understanding of the nature of Evil.

WINONNA RIDER HAS A LINE IN THE FILM:
"I believe in God. I believe in the Devil."

HARD ROCK ARTIST
ALICE COOPER BELIEVES THIS TOO

www.lollipop.com October 2000 ALICE COOPER
An Interview with Alice Cooper by Rich Black

"I'm a Christian. I still have very Christian values. My show is very anti-Satanic, and the things I write about are anti-Satan. I go out of my way to warn people that if you think Satan doesn't exist, he's already beat you because he does. Maybe it sounds old-fashioned, almost archaic, but I believe in the classic God, and I believe in the classic devil. It explains a lot of evil in the world."

"We blame things on movies, we blame things on music, we blame things on videos, but we forget where evil comes from. It comes from a much darker place."

I've seen "Lost Souls" twice: really got it only on the second viewing. My tip to viewers: You must know something about pathological/malignant narcissism (otherwise known as narcissistic personality disorder) to really appreciate and understand this movie.

BELIEVABLE
Date: Mon, 20 Nov 2000
From: "x"

I thought this was a great movie. Much more believable than "Bless the Child." In particular I liked the way that the devil was defeated in a couple of scenes - not with violence, but with truth. In one scene, Maya confronts the possessed priest with the words, "So Christ defeated Satan. Satan is weak. Satan has lost." (To that effect.) Even the controversial ending, though perhaps lacking the finality that movie-goers like, was best the way it was. It often the case in my own life that Jesus defeats evil in my life, but I never can tell if it's over or was even real. Just like the ending of this film. For what it's worth.....

50 BOOKS DID NOT MAKE IT
Subject: Initial Bible verse
Date: Sun, 5 Nov 2000
From: Ron

So many viewers of Lost Souls were disturbed because the "bible verse" quoted could not be found. Does not everyone know that there are some 50 books that were considered for the bible that didn't make it. The author doubtless took some liberty but one of those also-ran books could easily have contained such a verse. Viewers make such a fuss yet they are willing to accept excorcism which is really not authenticated anywhere but in the movies. Where is their sense of occultism, of fantasy ? Don't they know that movies are fairy tales, made up to entertain us, to thrill us, and sometimes, as in Lost Souls, to make us think a little.

DEUTORONOMY 17?

From: kevin the canadian

I believe that at the beginning of the movie there is a quote from Deuteronomy 17 that goes something like this "a child who is born of incest will become the devil and the world as we know it is over...". I looked in my bible and I could not find this. Was I looking in the correct place or was this quote made up.
kevin the canadian

Response: Actually it is Deuteronomy BOOK 17. It is NOT a reference to the Bible. -David
