I saw this film with my kids. It was a great family film with an overwhelming number of special effects. The idea in the movie is to save the world and Dr. John Robinson (as in Swiss Family Robinson and that famous Christian explorer, Robinson Crusoe.) has devised the means of salvation through 'hypergates' (heaven's gate), which will instantaneously transport any starship across light years to the opening of another hypergate port.

Robinson is the father of a family. His means of salvation depends on the laws of science and technology and is devoid of any meaningful human relation (grace). His son's sacrificial death is ultimately the means of salvation. Jack Johnson plays the son, Will Robinson, who sacrifices himself in death to save his father's family and defeat their enemy. This death takes place in a time warp, hence he lives again. Hmmm, sounds like the same plot found in Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

"Space" in recent films is really a metaphor for the deep recesses of the soul and its struggle to be free. The time warp bubble in this film is the eternal spiritual unseen dimension that exists all around us. The father in this film must place love and relationship before everything else. What I experienced in the film was the agony of the very soul of God who wants no one lost in space (grace) and yet wants to save the world (law).

Lost in space is my favorite movie and I am glad that you found a Christian way of looking at it. Also what I noticed was that the bad guy(spider Smith) was cast by the father into a pit (like the fire pit that Satan will be cast into by our father.) The cut scene from the movie of "Planet Beast" (future Blawp) is like what we become when we enter God's holy place. On the outside our deads make us look like a nobody, but when we decide to enter into God, we become so much more. So thank you so much for your site.

HOPE THEY MAKE A SEQUEL
Feb 24 1999,

A fantastic, well acted and plotted film with a great cast and innovative special effects! I hadn't even thought of your interpretation--but what a concept! I think you're onto something! I certainly hope they make a sequel to this fine, family oriented film! It is one of the best films of '98; critics who did not like it were too dumb to understand it!

Dec. 11, 1998.
I think "Lost in Space" is a great movie with a good theme and many woderful effects.

I've just watched this movie and its ace..... if not a little complex "time space" thingy.
