| Soccer moms and their kids are gonna love Kicking and Screaming. The kids will have clap and cheer as each goal is scored in slow motion. They’ll also laugh as the kids on the team make silly jokes and send Will Ferrell through the requisite pratfalls that are involved in family comedies. Their parents will be entertained by another hilarious Will Ferrell performance. |

SYNOPSIS |
Will Ferrell ("Elf," "Old School") stars in a lively comedy about the cutthroat, hyper- competitive world...of little league soccer. "Kicking & Screaming" stars Ferrell as Phil Weston, an average Joe who's had to put up all his life with his overly competitive father, Buck (Robert Duvall). When Phil decides to coach his 10-year-old son's soccer team, he goes head-to-head for the league championship against Buck, who coaches his own young son on the preeminent team of the league. Old scores come into play as Phil and Buck find themselves going to extreme measures to win the championship trophy. |
|
Phil Weston (Will Ferrell) has a beautiful wife, a great son, and his own vitamin store. But he’s never been able to please his father Buck (Robert Duvall) when it comes to sports. He tried sports as a youngster and in college and (hilariously) crashed and burned at every attempt. Years later, when Phil’s son Sam is “traded” by his granddad to another team who’s coach has suddenly quit, Phil takes the bold step of coaching his son’s new soccer team. With a motley crew of misfit kids-including a couple of wunderkind Italian soccer geniuses, a couple of thousand cups of coffee and Super Bowl winning coach Mike Ditka in tow, Phil embarks on a journey to prove once and for all that he can stand toe to toe with his father in the sports world. It’s the opportunity he’s been waiting for all of his life! If only he could figure out just what in the world he’s doing!

Will Ferrell has entered a new realm of comedy: good, clean fun. In Kicking and Screaming, Ferrell, as Phil The Reluctant Soccer Dad, makes a bold move by agreeing to coach a “loser” team (the Tigers) whose greatest opponent is none other than Phil’s no-holds-barred the-only-fun-is-winning dad’s team (the Gladiators).
The tension between these two can be observed in myriad other families. Parent is an ape-gone-wild rabid (fill in the skill/talent/hobby) fan and child is either ungifted, uninterested, or both. Likewise, Phil’s father, Bucky (Duvall), is the retired athlete’s athlete—old and crusty and rude, but he can still beat his uncoordinated wimp of a son in tetherball (like that’s a major feat). So we get the distinct impression that Phil has been under his father’s competitive (yet still opposable) thumb his entire life, and would just ONCE like to be on the winning side.
