SUCCEEDED MASTEFULLY
Subject: A JESUS FOR ALL
Date: Wed, 31 May 2000
From: DANTONIORONNIE

THE MINISERIES "JESUS " WAS MAGNIFICENT. THE FOUR GOSPELS WERE NEVER INTENDED TO BE A BIOGRAPHY OF JESUS BUT A CATECHETICAL TOOL TO BRING PEOPLE TO THE BELIEF THAT JESUS IS THE SON OF GOD. THE FILM SUCCEEDED MASTERFULLY. IN JESUS' HUMANITY HIS DIVINITY SHINES FORTH. WHILE I RESPECT PEOPLE HAVE A RIGHT TO THEIR OPINIONS I FEEL MANY DETRACTORS WILL NEVER EVER BE SATISFIED BECAUSE THEY FEEL UNLESS THERE IS WORD FOR WORD SCRIPTURE THERE IS NO ACCURACY. NOONE KNOWS THE WHOLE CHRIST STORY BECAUSE AS I STATED THE GOSPELS AREN'T CHRIST'S LIFE STORY BUT WRITTEN TRADITION HANDED DOWN FOR THE PURPOSE OF HELPING PEOPLE BELIEVE THAT JESUS IS THE UNIQUE AND DIVINE SON OF GOD. I DO QUESTION CBS'S OMMISSION OF THE VOICE OF GOD AT THE BAPTISM. SEEMS SUSPICIOUS. I WISH THAT THERE WAS NO INTERNATIONAL VERSION AND CBS VERSION THAT THERE WAS ONE COMPLETE EDITION FOR ALL THE WORLD TO EXPERIENCE. HOW ABOUT A COMPLETE VERSION FOR DVD.

Dear Sir, I noticed that one of the letters posted on your web site asked about purchasing the Director's Cut Version of the Jesus mini-series (the version shown in Europe--hopefully in English!). If this should become available in the United States, I would like to look into the possibility of purchasing it (depending on cost, shipping, etc.). I have really enjoyed reading the comments on this web site. Parts of this film were thought-provoking and inspiring. Thanks again!

THANKS TO CBS

I only got to see the first night of the special but I was impressed with the quality and the authenticity. I am a believer in Jesus, have studied the Bible for a long time but was still moved by the special and was blessed with the depiction of Jesus' humanity yet pointing out quite well that he was still GOD incarnate. The baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist was the only area which was really off base. Jesus had no sin to repent of. Thanks for the chance to express my pleasure. Thanks to the network for airing this special.

hello all, i am typing this form roomates computer, my e-mail address is hosanna38@hotmail....or.....yahoo.com. i would very much like to comment on the jesus miniseries. i like it. i don't think jeremy was perfect for the role, but then who is fit to portray the most influentail human being in histroy? willam defoe? ted kneely? robert powell?....think i like mr. powell the best so far, but that's beside the point. the emotion was right on target though. his joy and sorrow, both to magnificent extremes....that's how i picture jesus everytime i think of him. a job well, and its nice to see, because i've seen so many jesus movies that are just bad.....by the way i really do love all the jesus movies starring the actors i've mentioned before, especially the last temptation........matt

GOOD SHOW
Subject: CBS TV MINI SERIES JESUS WAS GOOD
Date: Mon, 29 May 2000
From: S. Carpenter, League City, Texas

It was a good show, even though any presentation may be regarded as imperfect or inaccurate. I was surprised to see out of the many times redone Biblical scenes in previous movies an original vision of Jesus and his message. Its clear to me that the world and I never get that message, but Jesus and the gospel story has changed the world history. I cried for the Jesus presented. I found it emotionally moving (even if speculative) and intellectually enigmatic (even if fantastic). A movie is art, and presents a fantasy, but in reality how could the death of one man ever so change the world as Jesus' did? I liked the doubting Thomas scene. This presentation of the enigmatic story seemed to show more of the human Jesus (although it is Hollywood to see Jesus as a romantic idol, but my wife loves it). I see the presentation as an authentic Christian vision which is culturally kind of Italian (Roman focus) and American. I've never taken the time to comment on a TV show by e-mail. I was fortunate to watch the whole show. I found it uplifting. It made me want to be a better Christian. It was far better than most of the TV we are subjected to. I hope there is more TV like this in the future which adds value and meaning to human life. If a critic wants to make a better show, let them. Got to put the kids to bed. (While watching the show together with small children, I told them that what happened to Jesus was frightening as the Crucifixion depicted. I would like to see the international version scene ending with Jesus and the little children.)

The best film I have seen on Jesus, is the one made by the Trinity Broadcasting Network. It is done word for word on the Gospel of Matthew, and Jesus is fun, and loving, as well as divine. Jesus is portrayed by an actor named Bruce Marchiano,he was perfect. The name of the film is The Matthew Film.

HOLLYWOOD MIXED UP
Subject: Jesus Movie
Date: Sun, 28 May 2000
From: Connie Jean

I enjoyed seeing Jesus dancing at the wedding of Cana!!! I liked it when Mary the mother of Jesus, told Jesus about the three kings who came to visit him in Bethlehem, and brought out the gifts the kings gave to Jesus. I liked the fact that Jesus may have fallen in love with a girl! Afterall, how do we know he didn't have a special girl with whom he admired. He was born human, but most importantly, Jesus was born the Son of God. I'm greatly dissapointed that 98% of the movie was based on Hollywood. Afterall, if anyone is a Jesus follower, they know how corrupt and money worshipped Hollywood is. Let the real Christians stand up for Jesus please! Are there any out there in Hollywood? My opinion is that Hollywood is all mixed up, with New Agers, idle worshippers, science whatever, and atheists. All Hollywood cares about is SEX, MONEY, and VIOLENCE. Jesus did NOT debate with the devil. Jesus knew He was the Son of God! He didn't choose his diciples like beauty pagent finalists! When He was baptized, God in heaven, said loudly and clearly, "This is my SON, with whom I am well pleased." I could go on and on, but you cannot change spots off a lepard. If anyone is interested the video's about Jesus that is accurate, is The Gospel According to Matthew. Jesus is played by Bruce Marchiano. He played a happy Jesus too. It was based on scripture!! Bruce is also a Jesus Follower and an actor, whom Hollywood has shunned because of his beliefs. I believe the rapture will happen in my lifetime, and I'm 47 years old. All of you unbelievers left here on earth after the rapture, will really find out what HELL is. The Tribulation is not going to be a picnic, or an event you can buy your way out of. I've got my traveling shoes on, and when Gabriel's trumpet sounds, in a twinkling of an eye, I'll be with my Lord Jesus. I pray all people will make the right choice in their lifetime. My prayer is that you will follow and accept Jesus Christ as your personal Savior!!! You will find out then, how much Joy and Peace you can truly have. Jesus said, "Even my own people will not recognize me". How sad..but true.

DISAPPOINTED
Subject: Comments on the Jesus CBS Mini series

From: Ada Rivera Middletown, CT AdaRivera@aol.com

I'm sorry I am so late in commenting, but here I am finally. I was very DISAPPOINTED in the film. I had so much looked forward to it. I can't understand why no one can get it right. It's not that complicated. If you want to get a closer view than the Bible can give I highly recommend that the next people who try to portray Jesus in film should read "Poem of the Man-God." In the 1940s Jesus dictated his life to the Italian mystic Maria Valtorta. The dictations/visions were just recently translated into English. Even if it wasn't true, which I have no doubt that is, it would be the greatest film ever made. It was funny, sad, touching..real. I can't believe that no one has stumbled upon it. Yet those who have are those who seek (seek and ye shall find). I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to get to know our Jesus better. To know Him is to love Him. By the way, if you are interested, the book is made up of 5 volumes. I can give anyone more information on ordering them or they can easily be searched by looking up "Poem of the Man-God" or "Maria Valtorta". Thank you for giving me the opportunity to comment. I'll leave you with a comment by Wayne Weible, publisher of Medjugorje Newsletter, Weible Columns on Poem of the Man-God: "The greatest books outside of Holy Scripture I have ever read!"

DIDN'T LIKE NUDITY
Date: Sun, 28 May 2000
From:Mary- princessmary3000@netscape.net

David- Thank you for your depiction of Jesus. I felt I was watching an accurate overall portrayal of the Jesus I know and love. You made his life come to life! Like others, I do have my concernes about specifics. I know the bible cannot tell everything about Jesus, so you had to make educated guesses about what could have happened. I would love to know the reasoning for some of the scenes or lines in the film. One aspect that did concern me was the nudity. From what I hear from the TV and radio (mostly Christian) is that many people, even pastors and other Christians, are addicted to nudity and porn. To me, showing a nude or partially nude body when there are people with this problem is like giving an alcoholic as sip of alcohol. The bible says if a man looks at a woman lustfully he committs adultry with her in his heart. I am sure this was not at all the intention of the creators of the miniseries, but I am very bothered that this aspect was not more deeply considered. And although I do not have a nudity addiction I do not feel right about watching nudity in the media. I did not see any reason for the nudity to be included when there are ways to portray a sex scene without showing nudity. But again, overall I found the series to be a joy! And although some of the scenes made question, "Would Jesus have really done that?", I like the fact that it made me think. I makes me think about how well I know my best friend and savior. I will have to sit down and have a good talk with Him about that. :-) I really want to watch the miniseries again and ask God questions. Also, do you know if an edited version (without nudity) will be available? And if not, how I can contact the creators and ask their permission to copy the VCR version so I can edit out the nudity myself?
Thanks much and God bless! Mary- princessmary3000@netscape.net

MIXED FEELINGS
Subject: Jesus Movie.....luv it or not
Date: Fri, 26 May 2000
From: Robin (BlondiBlu8@prodigy.net)

I watched both nights of this Jesus mini-series and I have to say that in all honesty, I have mixed feelings about it. Not only am I a former drama club student, but a christian as well. To undertake a role like this, is daunting at best and let me say that I applaud the man, Jeremy Sisco, for doing his best to represent a man who has been portrayed as a sinner, a martyr, a prophet and a plain old man of history. As an actor, it is difficult to bring a new "life" to a "character" who has been portrayed in so many ways, and make him unique. But the fact is that this "story" would have been more effective with biblical facts to back up the "story line". Why make a movie based on the life of a biblical "character", with out the actual biblical recount of the story? Some would argue that it could reach many of the "lost" who may then resort to the bible to read the real story, but then why would they? The "story" has already been laid out for them in cinematic forum.

Satan tried his best in the movie to "convert" Jesus to his way of thinking and the only reason he failed is because Jesus knew who he was and who he was dealing with. In all honesty, many people not only don't know who Jesus really is, but either don't believe in the "devil" or even know what he is capable of. Just for the record, the portrayal of Satan as a suave and persuasive person was pretty close. Let it be known that Satan knows the bible as well or better than any man and is capable of distorting it's truth to suit his own purpose. Any one who has studied the scriptures in reguard to Satan and the temptation of Jesus in the desert can see the way in which he used scripture to turn a "man" to think the way he does.

Luckily, for us, Jesus recognizes the ruse of Satan and uses scripture to rebuke him. Make no mistake, Jesus was not weakened in the desert, but strengthened. Just one other example of how God takes evil intent and thwarts it for His Good. Not only did He prove it in that "scene", but in the lives of many believers. It is my prayer that those who are lost and wanting to know the reality of Jesus will truly look to the scriptures for direction and truth.

However, we are all sheep who are easily led in the direction of their "shepherd". Wether it be "hollywood" or some televangelist, we all need to recognize Jesus as the true shepherd and not some "hired" hand. The part of the movie where Jesus heals a man who has been paralyzed, by putting a blanket over the man's legs and waving his hands over the man's legs, in my opinion, portrays Jesus as a magician, not a healer. And then we are left with a confusing picture of Jesus as he heals a child just by saying so. Jesus never once used a cloak or a blanket as he healed. As in the case of the paralytic, he simply told him to take up his bed and walk. His faith made him whole. Why? Because he simply believed. I could rant on and on about the inaccuracies of the movie, but what good comes of that?

As for the nudity, let me just say that we are all nude under our clothing and that's a whole other subject.

I did not get the feeling that the movie Jesus was "lusting after" Mary, Lazrus's sister, but rather was a touching and touchy portrayal of innocent and pure love felt by the character of the woman, Mary. Love can be as strong as lust or pure loving affection. In the spiritual, love is not lust, but pure affection, like love for a brother, a friend, a neighbor, mother or father.

Love the movie or not, please take the time and prayerfully research the truth for yourself. Don't let a movie or any man define who God or Jesus really is. And if this movie helped you to see a part of Him you never recognized or believed, then God bless you. But please search your heart and open a bible, and learn about truth and God's love for men who He created in his own image. I will not trash talk this movie, but it literally speaks for itself.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to express my heart felt opinion. Let's learn to love others despite faults and encourage them to seek the truth straight from "the horses mouth". Let's not base our belief on a character in a movie, but in the reality of who Jesus really was, is and is to come. Peace be with you all ........ in Jesus' name.
Robin (BlondiBlu8@prodigy.net)

I've e-mailed you before if you look on the Jesus Cbs comments thing. I was just wondering, I've been told that the home video of Jesus is only the CBS version, not the full one. In the interview Lorenzo Minolli (spelling?) said he would gladly respond to any Hollywood Jesus comments on his series. I don't know how you're gonig to contact him, but ask him for me if you will: Is it true that the CBS home video of Jesus is actually the CBS version (which makes sense) or is it the full version and if it's the CBS version, how will I find the full version here in America since the full version was in Italy (wow, that's a mouth full!) Anyway, David, keep up the good work on your Hollywood Jesus site, I love it!

NOTE TO ROGER YOUNG
Subject: Jesus Mini Series
Date: Fri, 26 May 2000
From: STEPHEN

Hi Roger, I recently watched the Mini-Series "Jesus". In all Honesty, I liked it. You depicted Jesus as a "man" which is what the bible says he was. Yes he was the "Son of God" but he had human emotions and Pain. No doubt people will argue this point, but if he did not then what hope do we have. A point on the Baptism, John and Jesus where friends but it wasnt until the very point of the baptism that John had the revelation that Jesus was the Lamb of God that would take on apon him self the sins of the world. You bought this out very well. Congratulations on a great movie. I have watched it several times now. Because I live in Australia we managed to get the edited bit at the end when Jesus is walking the streets and the children run to him. Why didnt CBS leave this in on all the versions. Jesus is around today, I couldnt think of a better way to show this. Maybe we didnt get all the parables etc etc. But read the bible if you want to know what they are. You should be proud of the movie you have made, several years of your life well spent. Isnt it amazing how we are so quick to condemn and find faults in things. Did jesus joke and have fun, well thats not really important is it, no one knows. All I know is that this movie brings out the biggest event in human history, lets look and rejoice in the message it brings out.
Yours faithfully

AMAZING HOW GOD WORKS
Date: Thu, 25 May 2000
From: Alissa Savage

Dear David, I just got back into your web-site and realized that you actually commented on my e-mail and immediately your response sent me into another crying jag!!! I am so thrilled you said that to me!!! (That you thought about my letter all day...) I am a changed person because of that movie. And you're right, it IS amazing how God works in our lives. Although, I must tell you He has been hitting me over the head with a hammer for 20 years and I've just been ignoring Him. I have a gift. It's a gift of vision. And now I know it comes from HIM! He comes to me in dreams. I had one about two years ago. We were just "hangin'" out. Me an' Jesus and about six of the desciples. And He looked just like He did in that movie. It was the best dream I ever had. I felt so happy, so loved, and it was SO much fun!!!! And you know what He said to me at the end of that dream??? "I'm going to use you to spread hope through the world." Now, I ask you, how many people have dreams like that?!!! Well, I'm not ignoring Him any more!!! I'm going to ask Him to come back to me and tell me what He wants me to do!!! And I won't stop asking (and praying) until He tells me!!! I got so upset reading over some of those negative letters from the "true followers of Christ"!!! Sometimes they are so narrow-minded and blinded to the reality of the situation.

I just want to say, David, that I've also been plugging into a Jeremy Sisto fan site created by a 19-year-old woman from Wisconsin and the letters from all these young girls are so wonderful. Most of them have been saying how much this movie also affected them in reference to Jesus and isn't that what it should be all about??? These are very young kids being affected in such a positive way by this film and I think that's way more important than getting a couple of scenes Bible-perfect for all the zealots out there. I guess that's just my opinion. But it is a thrill to be writing this letter to you. Now I must go and dry my eyes because I'm writing this from work and I don't want anyone to see my tear-stained face!!!
Peace, David!!! Alissa Savage

I LOVED THIS MOVIE

From: Cindy Roberts cinders@gbasin.net

I've just read down the long list of responses, and I found myself shaking my head on more than one occasion. I LOVED this movie, and the fact that it showed Jesus as being like US. He laughed, he cried, he felt doubt, pain, fear... I pity all of those who said that Jesus didn't act this way, or that way. That he didn't say this or that. All I have to ask is...were they there when it happened? NO! They were not, so who are they to say that it didn't happen this way or that. I liked seeing Jesus in this way. It was a lot easier to relate to him in this context. The movie wasn't filled with a lot of intricacies that would have bored us all in their retelling, but was presented in a way, that small children could watch it and understand it, and not be left wondering what everyone was talking about.

My son, who is ten years old, LOVED this movie as much as I did. And we've watched it twice since it's airing. People need to be more open minded, and learn to live a little bit. My favorite Jesus movie use to be "Jesus of Nazareth", but that has changed. I grew weary of the depressed, gloomy Jesus. I like seeing a Jesus who is alive, and loves life. And I feel that actor, Jeremy Sisto, did a wonderful, and believable portrayal of Jesus. Thank you for a wonderful movie. It was worth the wait. :)

WRM AND LOVING
Date: Tue, 23 May 2000
From: Renee

I wanted to commend you on the way that you portrayed Jesus as a warm and loving person. I think that Jesus has often been misrepresented as a "religious stuffshirt". Being a disciple of Jesus and completely devoted to the Scriptures, I am sure that he was not like that at all. Though I do have to point out a few mistakes that were made in the movie. There were never any mention of Jesus's blood brothers and sisters, which he did have Luke 8:19-20 and John 7:5. Another very important mistake is during the baptism that John performed on Jesus. Jesus never sinned, therefore NEVER did he have to repent. He was the only perfect person that this would apply to. John's response when Jesus approached him to be baptized was quite different then portrayed if you look in the account of the Bible, Matthew 3:13-17. Jesus was also never confused about his purpose on this earth. He always knew exactly what he was here for "to seek and to save what was lost", Luke 19:10. It is very important when it comes to Biblical facts to get them right. Though I do commend you on a job well done in the area of Jesus's character. I fell in love with my Lord and my Savior all over again.
God be with you, Renee
