Differences between the CBS and International version
SPECIAL PAGE -Interview with Lorenzo Minoli

HERE ARE SOME OF THE COMMENTS ON THE JESUS MINI SERIES
I will respond to various letters as I can over the next few weeks. -David

BAPTISM SCENE RESTORED
Subject: Baptism scene restored
Date: Wed, 28 Jun 2000
From: Ron Dantonio, N,Y,

I just watched the CBS video of "Jesus" that they are selling and was surprised to see that at the Baptism of Jesus, the Voice of God the Father proclaiming Jesus as His Son in Whom He was pleased had been restored. This gave me hope that maybe they included the additional ending but they didn't.
Ron Dantonio, N,Y,

ALWAYS WITH US
Subject: International Version
Date: Sun, 25 Jun 2000
From: "Singleton"

Hi David. Great job on the site! I absolutely loved the Jesus miniseries. Jeremy Sisto deserves all the credit he gets for this role because he blew me away. What a terrific job he did! My question though is, and forgive me for asking when tons of others have asked too, when or will the international version of the film be released for retail? It was a shame to cut out the last scene. I can't even describe it to my friends without breaking down because it was just so unbelievably beautiful. How amazing it was to see Him walking around in jeans, proving that He is always with us!
Thanks David. Take care
.

Response: There will be a EU version that will be what you want

NO DIRECTOR'S CUT
Subject: URGENT INFO ON THE CBS JESUS FILM!
Date: Fri, 23 Jun 2000
From: Aiwkid

PLEASE Post this on your main page so everyone can see it because this is vital to people who want the Director's Cut of the Jesus film. We all know the video is the CBS version and some have wondered about the DVD. I went to Amazon.com and clicked on "technical information" on the Jesus movie DVD. Well, it said running time 173 minutes. Now, I had recorded the movie off CBS and I managed to but off commericals. I played the tape from the beginning and when it ended, it amounted to 173 minutes!!!!!! This means that the DVD is NOT the Director's cut! What a rip-off!

NO JESUS OVERSEAS
Subject: Where to buy the video in and for (code)Europe ???
Date: Wed, 21 Jun 2000
From: Cesar

Hi David, I first found your page trying to find info on the x-men new movie then there was something about Superman and Jesus (your link to your review) and then I found this about the Jesus movie... so funny.... (tlaking about the Superman Jesus movie....... ET has a Jesus thing in it as well.... but I really hate ET and the whole thing)

Anyways I live in Frankfurt, Germany though I am originally from Guatemala. I love Jesus and I think this video could be a way to share the Gospel with the guys of the Youth Group here in Germany. Better if is in English. Most guys here speak English, and about how "exact" is according the Bible i'll say that we as Christians have to concentrate in the message, that is the Gospel..... the technicallitites can be talk over with the doubts and is a great way to get deeper into the bible trying to know more about Jesus.

I haven't seen the movie but I already heard about this guy Lorenzo Minoli and how a great work he is doing. Way to go !!!! I'm looking forward to see the movie and i just saw there are other Bible movies available from his productions..... that's great !! So...... where can I get the International version (not only of Jesus but the other movies) here in Germany.... or EU ??? . I already checked Amazon.de and Amazon.uk and nothing. I will need some DVD or VHS with the code and format for EU. In your page there is lots of links to buy it in the US but not in EU..... so..... ??????..... remember the world is Big out there....

By the way, your web page is great..... though technically talking your page could look better, is just proven that is the content that matters. there are super cooler web pages with ..... well lets say it in nicely : crap. Is that how u say it ???...... men let me tell you my few German is getting mixed with my English and my Spanish has a weird accent. Anyways, GOD bless you and prosper you in everything that brings HIM glory !!!
In Jesus, Cesar Ruiz.

CHANGED MY LIFE
Date: Sat, 17 Jun 2000
From: Gerber

Your website is truly outstanding! I just want to say that as a B&R (born and raised) Catholic, I was moved to tears by this film. The portrayal of Jesus by Jeremy Sisto was truly inspired. This is the first film that emphasized that Jesus Christ was FULLY human as well as FULLY divine. The director, producer, cast and crew are to be commended on this triumphant project. On a personal note, the film helped to solidify my personal relationship with Jesus Christ. I realize that the filmmakers took some artistic liberties, but the scriptures do tend to leave some details up for speculation. Even the Gospel writers stated "Jesus performed many more works, too many to be written here." I think people need to focus on the SPIRIT of this film, which was that Jesus lived, died and rose here on Earth, He was/is the Son of God, and He continues to dwell among us. Congratulations to Jeremy, Jacqueline, Gary, Jerome, Debra, Armin and the rest of the cast. And thank you, Lorenzo, for making this film. It changed my life.

PROBABLY THE CBS CUT
Subject: JESUS VIDEO
Date: Sat, 17 Jun 2000
From: DANTONIO

According to DVD EXPRESS,the running time on the Jesus DVD due out July 25th is listed as 173minutes which means we're probably getting the CBS CUT VERSION. Hopefully, David, with your influence and all of our requests for the complete version,we'll get some action. Can anybody tell me why CBS omitted the voice of God the Father at the Baptism? Sounds suspicious.
RonD'Antonio, N.Y.

Response: Sadly, if it is, there will be no other choice.

MISSED IT BUT...
Subject: I Missed It-But Would Like to Comment
Date: Fri, 16 Jun 2000
From: "Wylie, Velvia"

I missed the airing of Jesus, I but I going to rent it as soon as Blockbuster gets it. I'm not sure about most of everyone's negative comments, but I am VERY disturbed about how a love relationship is CONTINUALLY referred to by people on this board as LUST. Since we know Jesus is perfect, and sinless, then we know that his love for Mary had to be PURE and SINLESS. Love does not equal lust. Even I, as a sinful human, can romantically love a man without having lust in my heart. And about John asking Jesus to confess. Not having seen the movie, I can't really begin to comment, accept to maybe ask, Did Jesus actually confess any sins?

And what's wrong with Jesus asking the Devil how could he give him power? Merely asking the question says nothing. The devil could have gone on for 40 days with descriptions of how he could get Jesus power-Jesus still would not have fallen to temptation. And one person said that Jesus knew that his prayers would be answers before he prayed them. I don't think that's true. He prayed that if it was God's will, would he take the cup from his lips. i.e. He prayed not to have to go through the crucifixation et. al, but that was the way God willed it to happen and He obeyed God's will. I really want to see the miniseries.

From the comments, I'm not sure that I'll agree with every artistic license taken-but I'm sure that I'd like it, overall. Because, I have read the Bible. Including All Four Gospels. And I love Jesus with my whole heart. But let's be real people. The Gospels don't include every word Jesus ever spoke, every miracle or deed he ever did. We can only "guess, figure, reason" what he did in the times that the Gospels do not speak about. I do believe it is true that we only need the Bible to know who Jesus is to fall in love with Him, and to allow Him to become the Lord of our lives. But I don't fault the movie-makers for "filling in the gaps" and providing a more complete picture. Our minds do it any way. We try to figure out who Jesus really is-that comes with having a personal relationship with Him. Or at least it should.

Too many people accept that He is God, but don't try to see that Jesus was also human, and can empathize with us in EVERY WAY. Which bring me full circle. How could Jesus know how I, personally, feel when I am in love with a non-Christian who wants me to be with him and deny my Christian calling, if he didn't deal with the same sort of issue? Christ had every opportunity to sin, just like we do, but unlike us, He JUST didn't. Because He is the Christ. Now and Forever. Wow, I had a lot to say and I haven't even seen the movie yet.

Oh, David...Just one more comment about the John the Baptist scene. Just because John the Baptist questioned Jesus' identity before he, John, died, does not mean that he questioned Christ's identity in the beginning. I highly doubt the the forerunner for Jesus could doubt Jesus while standing in His presence. I chalk up the doubts about Jesus that John had at the end to him being human and scared, about to die, and just wanting reassurance from his Lord whom he hadn't seen in some time. It's easy to doubt when you are not in the presence of the Lord. Anyone feel free to email me. God Bless You All.

HAPPY SIDE OF JESUS
Date: Mon, 12 Jun 2000
From: DJ

My name is DJ. I watched the movie "JESUS" and I LOVED IT. Anyone who didn't like it didn't watch it with an open mind. There were things in the movie that are not in the Bible, but the message that was being sent out is the same, That Jesus died on the cross for our sins, he rose on the third day and assended into heaven, that his love is unconditional, that we should talk to God on a daily basis and he will listen, that we should confess our sins to God and he will forgive, that we should never question or doubt Gods love for us or anything he does, for there is a reason for everything that happens in this world, good or bad, and that with faith, he is always with us and he will never leave us. I seen a side of Jesus that I have never seen in any movie or heard of in church, and that was the happy side of him. I know they don't talk about this in any church, or at least some, but there was a time when Jesus was happy, before all the grieving he did before his death. It was just really nice to see him laugh and joke around.

CAN NOT GET OVER IT, SO BEAUTIFUL
Subject: I'm still floating
Date: Mon, 12 Jun 2000
From: Judi

Dear David I live in Australia and was fortunate to have watched the international version of this wonderful mini-series over the Easter Weekend. It has been six weeks and I still can't get over it. Not a day has passed without me thinking about it. I have visited your web-site several times and on many an occasion, I wanted to write something. But at the same time, I wanted to see how long my ... euphoria would go on for, before I said anything. I was born and raised in a very Catholic family. I grew up watching Jesus of Nazareth and a movie length Jesus. And of course, Jesus Christ Superstar, which by the way, my parents and grandparents thought was blasphemes.

In all the teachings I received, there was always something missing in me. I never felt that I could have dropped everything and followed him had I been around during his time because the catechism classes and masses always made it seem so difficult to be a real follower of Christ. So many rules and so many occasions to sin, and Jesus the man, never really completely existed for me because he never seemed human enough - I felt one had to be super-human and deadly serious to follow his teachings Then I watched Jesus, the mini-series. And for the first time, I saw him as a real man. With human feelings, who shares himself with so much eagerness in the way he laughs and dances and teases and swings children around. Always wanting input from others, so that their feelings were explored. And just the thought that perhaps, Jesus may even have had normal human feelings of love for a woman, was wonderful. I'm not talking about lust, but love.

I found after watching just the first episode that I would have easily have followed him because he made it ? in his words ? simple. And I felt happy. My 14 year old son, just loved it and said to me ? "Why can't mass be like this ? you WANT to be a part of his journey - he is SO not boring!" Thankfully, I had set the VCR for it and we have all watched Jesus 3 times. My favorite part is the ending ? Jesus positively still around today, and all the children rushing to know and love him. It was SO BEAUTIFUL, I cried each time, rewound that bit and watched it again!! It just goes to reinforce what he said ? "I am with you ? always." And by the way, Jeremy Sisto ... AMAZING ... I hardly recognised him as I have seen several of his other movies. And suddenly ... he was this Jesus I had always wished to know!
God bless, and thank you! Judi

I BECAME CLOSER TO GOD
Subject: MOVIE MISUNDERSTOOD

From: Donna

Hi, my name is Donna. I watched the movie "JESUS", and I have to say, it changed my life. I have become so much more closer to God in every way possible, in mind and thought, in prayer, in church, and in faith. I find myself trying so much harder to please God, to be more like how he wants me to be. Sure, there are some differences in the movie that are not in the Bible, and maybe not in a persons beliefs, but the message is the same: that Jesus died on the cross for OUR sins, rose again on the third day and assended into heaven. The movie showed us that his love is unconditional, that we should talk to God on a daily basis, that we should confess our sins to God and that he will forgive us, that we should obey his commandments, that we should have faith, and with the faith, never doubt or question God, he has reasons for everything that happens to us whether it be good or bad. The movie was very inspirational, and for those people who don't think so, open up your minds, watch the movie again closely, picture yourself being there with Jesus, and maybe, just maybe you'll have a whole new outlook on the movie. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Take care and God Bless.

THE JESUS PEOPLE SEE IN US
Subject: response to "blasphemy"
Date: Sun, 11 Jun 2000
From: Daisy

Barbara wrote that she did not want to be tought about Jesus by a sinner. Well, then, who's going to teach you? Since you're an expert about the Bible, you certainly know that Romans says that "ALL have sinned". That means I'm a sinner. You're a sinner. Your pastor is a sinner. We are NO BETTER than non-believers, and it's an attitude such as yours that turns so many people away from God. Please, next time, consider that we Christians are often the only way people see Jesus. I didn't see the film and therefore can't comment, but I think ANYTHING that piques peoples' interest in Jesus or the Bible should be seen as good and utilized to the fullest of our abilities.

HURT BY SOME COMMENTS
Subject: The Best Version of the story of Jesus ever!!!
Date: Sun, 11 Jun 2000
From: Yeghizar

I loved this movie and I feel very hurt by the comments of modern day Pharrisees and Sadducees. They are so intent on treating non-Christians like they are nothing and their opinions are nothing. There might have been a few unusual scenes like the Gethemane and bird sequences, but does that mean it's a horrible movie??? Of course not!!! They call this miniseries blasphemous and deceptive. How can that be when this movie brought me out of a 5 year spiritual coma and made me want to attend church again??? Mary clearly stated that Joseph believed the bird was only "stunned" so this was not in any way thought of as the first miracle. In the book of John, Jesus DID say "My hour has not yet come," when Mary told him about the wine problem. Mary ignored Jesus (heehee) and went to the servant anyway and told him to listen to whatever Jesus told him to do. So in a sense, Jesus needed a bit of encouragement now and then. Why would God have given the Lord human parents if he didn't need them???

Also, this mega-controversial thing about Jesus and Mary of Bethany!!! The Bible says he was tempted in every way. I know he was the Savior, but he was human, and I am positive, I know in my heart, that he pondered the idea of a NORMAL life. Think of it: the choice between having a wife, children, normalcy against the choice of being brutalized, spit upon and murdered for the sins of every human being on earth??? Don't tell me he wasn't tempted to choose a life of unremarkable normalcy!!! Besides, He ended up obeying his Father's command and choosing that terrible/wonderful fate. So what is everyone griping and moaning about???!!!

And finally...I am SICK TO DEATH of people's attitudes about nudity. It's no wonder so many children are so warped and disturbed and afraid of sexuality. God created sexuality and we ARE all nude under our clothing!!! We are only reinforcing the negative unhealthy attitudes when we try to shield our children from seeing nakedness. It's only a human body with no clothes on!!! Get a grip!!! Nudity and sex aren't the enemy, Satan is, and Satan is the one who created shame and fear, not God!!!

Thank you to Five Mile River, Roger Young, Judd Parkin and Lorenzo Minoli for this very powerful, positive, moving and God-glorifying film. Thank you David for this great site and the wonderful photos. I'm a bit disappointed and disillusioned with CBS for feeling it necessary to remove the numerous footage they removed. I saw the European ending to Jesus thanks to my local news and I too would love to have the entire cut of JESUS with no editing and no scary commercials : ) Where can I order it???
Thank you and God bless and keep you.

From: "Woodrow Rhea"

I noticed some email writers want to buy the video. I ordered mine at www.cbs.com on May 18. Jeremy Sisto looked like many classic paintings of Jesus, don't you think, in some scenes. I loved the pace of the film; the director drew the viewer into Sisto's Jesus much like David Lean drew us into Peter O'Toole's Lawrence of Arabia. Lovely. Soft closeups, minimal dialogue. Buy the music inspired by miniseries for the young people in your life, wonderful! This is indeed a Jubilee Year for Catholics--did you know the Pope was presented with the video by the actors, the director and producer, and he gave the film his blessing? I have offered my parish's youth minister my miniseries video anytime she wants to borrow it. She says it would be great for a discussion group. Thanks for your website. It warms my heart that so many young people are responding to this film.

Greeting: My husband and I are both pastors and while we did not get to see the 2nd half of the movie, we both thought that it was a well done, thought provoking reflection on the life of Jesus. I especially loved the portrayal of his laughing in a full, rich, hearty manner on several occasions. If even just one person got a sense of who Jesus is, then the time and effort will have been worth it.

I ENJOYED IT!

From: Brenda Serfass bserfass@excite.com

I was able to watch on both nights. While some might be upset with this film that it didnt seem to be terribly bible consicous I for one enjoyed it. For so many people Jesus is a person with a big bat waiting for you to do something wrong. He seems to serious and this turns people off from ever reading the bible. People seem to think we Christains are a bunch of boring people that we sit around and just read the bible and pray. Our lives are so much more than that we laugh, tell jokes, dance, sing, etc. This is what this movie did. I showed JESUS as a person just like us. Yes, he is to be praised, he is to be worshiped, but in this film he SMILED, PLAYED AND WAS HUMAN. This shows the side that we have not ever seen before. I for one think it was needed and that it has changed the image of Jesus for the better in peoples lives. I especially loved the part in the movie when they are in the temple, there is dancing going on and Jesus and his disciples go to get a drink and Jesus starts to spash everyone. This showed that he could have fun to. God made us in his image. Which to me means that we are like him. I think even God likes a good ole clean joke now and then, and he loves seeing his people happy. Thank you so very very much for putting this out.

MY FRIEND FOUND JESUS

From: Andy Young andrewy@koorong.com.au

I'm from Adelaide South Australia, and we were fortunate to see the directors cut of the film. It was awesome! We had it on Easter Sunday & Monday.... Just wanted to say that my brother-in-law's mother has committed her life to the Lord after watching the film! She was blown away by the reality of Jesus in the movie, and by the fact that he appeared human. She was led to believe that Jesus was this guy who walked around with a halo above his head and spoke perfect Elizabethan languge! The crucifixion scene particularly had an effect on her, and she was asking why anyone would have gone through that for her.The film awakened her curiosity and she asked for a Bible and read the entire New Testament in about 3 days! About 2 weeks later, she got down on her knees and asked Jesus into her heart, and is now attending church regularly! All this from someone who had rarely ever walked into a church! So finally a brief challenge to all those who believe that this movie was spawned by the devil - are you prepared to face Jesus and tell Him exactly what methods can and can't be employed to tell people about His love? Check out 1 Corinthians 9:19-22

CAPTIVATING
Subject: A JESUS FOR THE NEW MILLENIUM
Date: Sun, 4 Jun 2000
From: RON D'ANTONIO, NEW YORK

I FOUND THE MINISERIES "JESUS" TO BE A CAPTIVATING AND A REFRESHING LOOK AT THE LIFE OF OUR SAVIOR. AS A PRIEST I CAN UNDERSTAND WHY SOME OF MY FELLOW CHRISTIANS ARE A LITTLE BIT CONCERNED WITH THE PRESENTATION BUT THEY SHOULD REALIZE THAT THE FOUR GOSPELS ARE NOT INTENDED TO BE A BIOGRAPHY OF JESUS IN THE MODERN SENSE OF THE WORD. THEY ARE A COLLECTION OF JESUS' TEACHINGS AND DEEDS WHOSE PURPOSE IT IS IS TO INSTILL FAITH IN JESUS AS THE ETERNAL SON OF GOD. WE MUST NOT FORGET BESIDES BEING FULLY DIVINE, JESUS WAS FULLY HUMAN WITH THE SAME RANGE OF HUMAN EMOTIONS THAT WE ALL HAVE. IF WE LOOK AT THE GOSPEL OF MATTHEW,FOR EXAMPLE, WE SEE THAT THE EVANGELIST'S PURPOSE IN WRITING THE GOSPEL FOR JEWISH CHRISTIANS WAS TO SHOW JESUS DEEPLY ROOTED IN JEWISH HISTORY AND COMING FROM THE LINE OF DAVID. THE SERMON ON THE MOUNT WHICH MATTHEW PRESENTS IN ONE SETTING(PROBABLY DIDN'T HAPPEN ALL AT ONCE) IS A SUMMARY OF JESUS TEACHINGS. BY DELIVERING THE SERMON ON THE MOUNT,MATTHEW SHOWS JESUS AS THE NEW MOSES DELIVERING THE NEW LAW. ALL THE PARABLES OF THE KINGDOM ARE LUMPED TOGETHER AS ARE STORIES OF THE END DAYS. SO YOU SEE THIS WAS MATTHEW TEACHING NOT JUST TELLING JESUS LIFE STORY. THERE IS MUCH OF JESUS' LIFE WE DON'T KNOW ABOUT AND AS A NORMAL YOUNG MAN GROWING UP ,WHO'S TO SAY JESUS DIDN'T HAVE QUESTIONS AND HAD HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS WITH BOYS AND GIRLS. WE SIMPLY DON'T KNOW. THE GOSPELS ARE TEACHING TOOLS NOT A WRITTEN IN STONE LIFE STORY OF THE SON OF GOD. I ENJOYED THE PRESENTATION VERY MUCH. IT WAS A GREAT CHANGE OF PACE. IT WAS WELL DONE,WELL ACTED AND HOPEFULLY WELL RECEIVED BY MOST.MY PARISHIONERS LOVED IT. JUST TO RESPOND TO ONE LETTER WRITER WHO THINKS CATHOLICS ARE IDOL WORSHIPPERS,THAT IS SO FAR FROM THE TRUTH. WE DON'T WORSHIP STATUES.THAT IS FORBIDDEN BY THE COMMANDMENTS. THEY ARE REPRESENTATIONS OF PEOPLE OF FAITH AND THEY SERVE TO REMIND US THAT OUR LIVES SHOULD BE EQUALLY FAITHFUL IN OUR SERVICE OF THE LORD AND TO OUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS CHRISTIAN OR NOT.
THANKS FOR THE WEBSITE DAVID.

Please tell me if there is going to be a book with photographs on the movie Jesus. Jesus of Nazereth (the movie) released such a book when the film first came out. Keep All of us posted as to when the uncut version of Jesus will be available on video. I watched what you were able to obtain (the parts that were spliced out by CBS) on your website. I can't understand why they took them out. Oringinally I thought the crucifixion was much to quick. I figured out that CBS cut parts out for television. Hey! I was right! And what about Lazurus telling Jesus to to leave the house after He told Mary He could not marry her. How moving! This scene should have been left in because it truly showed the sufferings of the Man Christ Jesus and made the rising of Lazurus all the more touching! (For Jesus to even make that choice after His friend mistreated Him so! ) well, I could go on, but I just wanted to thank you for all your hard work. All of us lovers of the REAL Jesus await your response. By the way. I myself am a director and a playwrite. I do plays on the Life of Christ all the time and our latest production dealt with the same issues the movie did. It's too bad that hollywood doesn't know about the Church, The Bride of Christ. All the billions of lovers of Christ that would be added to His heart. She was part of the joy set before Him. Heres how I handled the subject in my play: Rabbi Josiah: You should see her! She has blossomed into a rose! Beautiful...so beautiful. A man such as You would make a good Husband. I have seen the way she looks at You Jesus: You give me a wonderful complement rabbi. Please sit down. Rabbi Josiah: A man as only half a man without a woman Jesus: Dear rabbi. Israel is My bride. Do you understand that I am content in this love? Rabbi Josiah: No I do not understand. How can a man be married to the people alone? Jesus: It is written: The Lord is married to the land. This love fills My heart. So. Thats how it goes. Jesus loves us all.

Thanks for all your hard work!
