Various Artists

If you came anywhere within earshot of country radio in 2002, you'll immediately recognize the lead cut on this soundtrack, Keith Urban's chart-topping "Somebody Like You," presented here in a pop remix that doesn't diminish the original's catchiness. The rest of this set is routine but well-selected romantic comedy fare: a couple of oldies ("You're So Vain," "Let's Stay Together"); modern rock standards by Sixpence None the Richer and Gin Blossoms; a George Thorogood track, undoubtedly for the ubiquitous rowdy bar scene. But the real treats here come out of left field, in the form of "Good Day," a peppy, Dave Matthews-style sing-along from Bay Area faves Luce, and Fisher's dreamy, trip-hop rendition of Nat "King" Cole's "L.O.V.E." Aside from two bland contributions by Canadian balladeer Chantal Kreviazak, the set of songs showcased on 10 Days deserves to hang out in the CD player much longer than that. --Kurt B. SYNOPSIS
"One of them is lying. So is the other"
Click to enlargeAndie Anderson (Kate Hudson), Composure Magazine's "How-To" columnist, has a very unusual assignment and a quick deadline. She has to write a firsthand account of all the things that women do to inadvertently drive men away…and she's got to do it in 10 days. Now she's on a mission to find a guy, get him to fall in love with her, then make all the classic dating mistakes so he'll dump her. Too bad Andie's target is ad agency hottie, Benjamin Barry (Matthew McConaughey), who has just made a high-stakes bet with his boss that he can make a woman fall in love with him in 10 days. Does a faux relationship based on deception stand a chance in a world where everyone says they're looking for honesty? You can bet on it!

Click to enlargeCONSCIENTIOUS AND UNCONSCIOUS REALITIES
Can we fully know ourselves?
Can we fully be aware of our motives?
The answer in this film is --no.
But more than this -- we can never be fully aware of the motives of others?

Neither Andie Anderson (Hudson) nor Benjamin Barry (McConaughey) understand the realities behind their own known hidden agendas. Additionally, they do not understand what their business colleagues and friends have in mind. You might call this film "the unconscious realities of human relationships."

Formulating how-to rules for finding the right person is fun but, as we all know, rules can be complicated by unperceived human dynamics and hidden agendas. It is within this reality that the film gets its comedic moments. And, I might add, Kate Hudson has perfect timing. Her performance is a joy to watch.
The driving force behind the story is the idea of a committed relationship that remains solid in spite of stupid actions. Unconditional love is the thirst of every human soul. This film is a solid statement of this fact. No matter what Andie does to Benjamin, he does not go away. His love is more than her actions to drive him away. Ah, that we all could find a love like that short of God.

In the theater during the screening I heard people interacting with the situations in the film. People smiled, laughed, and had a good time. Its a good light hearted romp through the human condition.
