ABOUT GOD, THE DEVIL AND BOB

From Tuesday's night show... God and the Devil have set up camp somewhere in remotest Africa: God:(voice of James Garner) You know, it wouldn't kill ya to look around and enjoy the scenery.
Devil:(with a British accent!) I'm sorry. I've got alot of paperwork to do. Everything in my office is backed up. God: You really got to learn to delegate. Devil: _Excuse_ me. Who founded the Harvard Business School? I think I know how to manage. ...
God: Come on, let's take a walk. I'll show ya where the Leakey's found those bones I buried.
---- Later, back in Hell, the Devil's assistant (Smack) is seen torturing a guy named Carl on a rack. Nah, it couldn't be Carl Sagan, could it? >From what I've seen so far (two episodes) I really like this program. It reminds me of what you would get if you combined "The Screwtape Letters" (by C.S. Lewis) with a Tony Danza sitcom.

I think Jerry Falwell's response (made without even seeing the first episode) was an over-reaction:
"DATE: March 9, 2000
FROM: Jerry Falwell

GOD, THE DEVIL, AND BLASPHEMY: Thursday night's premiere episode of NBC's "God, the Devil and Bob," an animated sitcom, is proof that no matter how far the networks go in their continuing exploration of offensiveness and sacrilege, there is always a new echelon of blasphemy on the horizon. Not that everyone is going to like the show. No doubt some believers _will_ find elements of the show offensive." http://www.usatoday.com/life/enter/tv/let009.htm http://www.usatoday.com/life/enter/tv/let006.htm

Father Ellwood Kieser who heads up Paulist Productions and acts as a consultant on the upcoming animated sitcom God, the Devil and Bob has decried decisions by two NBC affiliates in Salt Lake City and Pocatello, Idaho not to carry the show. In an interview appearing in today's (Tuesday) Washington Post, Kieser said, "I found the show delightfully human and funny and yet theologically very perceptive. ... There's all this clamor for family entertainment, and all the studies indicate there's a sizable audience for shows that a family can sit down and watch together and then discuss. Part of the popularity of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire is that the family can watch it together. This is the same thing in a religious, God-centered context."

I enjoyed the show very much- and did not find it all offensive. I think you can be a good Christian and still have a sense of humour. I wish the religious right would go after other programming far more dangerous and idiotic to the minds of the population.

GREAT SHOW

GOD THE DEVIL AND BOB

From: "Genny Scotton"

Dear David, The series "God the Devil and Bob" has only just reached us in England. All of us in my Church community here in Woodford Halse and in my sister's community down in Plymouth think it is fantastic. We have been studying our Bibles- finding all the references used in G, the D and B. We are hoping to run a Study group to follow on from one of our "New Christian" groups using this series as an aid. Can you please tell me how (if it is possible) I can buy the series on Video?

I read some of the crit's on it on the home page written in 1999. I was very disappointed by them. We think they are Biblically sound and that they get the message across really well. Not to mention the fact that they encourage us all to read our Bibles.

Many thanks. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Kind regards
Genny Scotton

Response: Sorry no such video yet. -David

Dear David,
I am a big fan of your site. (Actually I am working on a senior seminar project at my college which analyzes images of Jesus in film) But anyway I went to your site the other day and was surprised to see that you did not have anything on NBC's new animated series "God. the Devil and Bob." I premieres two weeks from yesterday (Tuesday) Just thought you might be interested in hearing about it if you did not already know.
In Christ's Love,
Shawn

My response: Thanks, I always appreciate tips
