Well, fellow gamers, 2010 is just about at an end, and what a year it
has been. We've seen some huge announcements from all of the big three,
some stellar titles released both as original IPs and much-anticipated
sequels, and we've seen the economy reshape the game industry with
developers and production houses closing, downsizing, or simply
restructuring.
But as we march toward Christmas and the New Year, here a
few things to keep an eye out for on the HJ Playbox.

For many years, Call of Duty was known for being the main competitor to EA's Medal of Honor
series. It was the "other" WWII shooter that often featured more
scripted moments that helped it feel more like an action movie than
just another shooter where you fight the Nazis.
Despite its success in
that niche, Infinity Ward came along and took the series into the
modern world with Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. When they
did that, they did more than just give a game with a familiar formula a
fresh setting, they created one of the great first person shooters of
our time.
Living up to the legacy of the first Modern Warfare was no small challenge, but for the most part, Modern Warfare 2
is every bit the sequel it needed to be as this new offshoot of the
Call of Duty series matures into its own legitimate franchise.
