An ounce of mother is worth a pound of clergy.
--SPANISH PROVERB
God can’t always be everywhere, and so he invented mothers.
--SIR EDWIN ARNOLD (1832–1904)
My mother had a great deal of trouble with me, but I think she enjoyed
it.
--Mark Twain (1835 - 1910)
Any great truth can -- and eventually will -- be expressed as a
cliche -- a cliche is a sure and certain way to dilute an idea.
For instance, my grandmother used to say, 'The black cat is always
the last one off the fence.' I have no idea what she meant, but
at one time, it was undoubtedly true.
--Solomon Short
My mother loved children -- she would have given anything if I had
been one.
--Groucho Marx (1890 - 1977)
The art of mothering is to teach the art of living to children.
--Elain Heffner, O Magazine, May 2003
Republicans understand the importance of bondage between a mother
and child.

JESUS
AND MOTHERS
The fact that God would use a human mother to bring His Son into the
world has bestowed upon motherhood its greatest honor. Jesus set an
example for all to follow by the provision He made for His mother
(John 19:25-27). Jesus made it plain, however, that devotion to God
must take precedence to that of a mother (Matt. 12:46-50).
Genesis 2:24 (NRSV)
Therefore a man leaves his father and his mother and clings to his
wife, and they become one flesh.
Matthew
12:46-50 (NRSV)
While he was still speaking to the crowds, his mother and his brothers
were standing outside, wanting to speak to him. [47] Someone told
him, "Look, your mother and your brothers are standing outside,
wanting to speak to you." [48] But to the one who had told
him this, Jesus replied, "Who is my mother, and who are my
brothers?" [49] And pointing to his disciples, he said, "Here
are my mother and my brothers! [50] For whoever does the will of
my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother."
John
19:25-27 (NRSV)
And that is what the soldiers did.
Meanwhile, standing near the cross of Jesus were his mother, and
his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.
[26] When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing
beside her, he said to his mother, "Woman, here is your son."
[27] Then he said to the disciple, "Here is your mother."
And from that hour the disciple took her into his own home.
