COUNTING THE COST
Subject: Counting the cost
Date: Sat, 17 Jun 2000
From: Paul DeYonghe

I just saw Face/Off for the first time last night. I didn't know until today, when I read your review of M:I2, that Woo is a Christian; nonetheless, I saw the symbolism. Something that occurred to me is that before Travolta agreed to the surgery, he weighed everything he was giving up-- he "counted the cost." Neat, huh?

QUESTIONS ON FACE OFF
Date: Fri, 31 Dec 1999
From: Andrew Bulloch

Dear David
My name is Andrew Bulloch from Huntsville Ontario, Can and I have a few religious concerns about the movie "Face Off" I would like to share with you and hopefully you can help answer them.
1) Why is the movie called "Face Off"
2) What is the parody involving the Halleluyah Chorus
3) What is John Woo trying to communicate with the posture of Nicholus
Cages death.
These questions are torublesom to me and I would love to hear your input
My response: 1) It's clever. Each man had his face removed and faced each other. 2) Who knows. 3) Don't you mean John Travolta death? The answer is crucifixion.

FACE/OFF MORE THAN VIOLENT WHAM-BAM
August 8, 1999. Hello there from Scotland, well, I'm actually Northern Irish, but I study in Aberdeen. I just tripped over your site this evening having heard about it from a great Christian film-buff friend. I just felt compelled to email and let you know what a fantastic work this site is: the Light truly does shine out even in the most unusual of places - mainstream Hollywood movies. Thanks for facilitating our musings on some of these movies - I felt kind of vindicated when I saw your Face/Off analysis - so many of my Christian friends at college just thought it was just a violent wham-bam popcorn movie! Keep the faith brother,

WOO'S FILMS CONTAIN RELIGIOUS SYMBOLS
July 10, 1999. I really like the way you interpreted this movie religiously, maybe more than the director intended it to be. Just in case, you don't know, director John woo wanted to be a priest when he was young. Most of his movies even though action oriented contain religious symbols and icons. They just make the movies more serious and I really love his films. Anyways, thanks for your good review of this movie. I definitely come back for more of your reviews in the future. Bye Hoan

BOATS AND JESUS IN FACE OFF
July 5, 1999 Face Off is my favorite movie and this is an awesome site! You even caught a bit of symbolism I did not. Did you realize that Eve is caught between good and evil as in the Bible? And in the boat chase scene, "Good Castor" has the white boat(purity) and "Real Castor" has the red boat (sin)? Just wondering. Once again, great work here!! Brian J. White, bjw8329@ksu.edu
PS Did you notice that the crucified Jesus in the chapel was looking up to Heaven after "all hell broke lose" as opposed to its previous position? -Brian

My respose: Thanks, I appreciate your remarks. And, no I didn't note the difference in the face of Jesus.

I'M BORED LINE
Jan 4, 1999. INCREDIBLE MOVIE !!! I LOVE THE LINES - "I'M BORED, I'M BORED, I'M BORED", "IF I SEND YOU FLOWERS - - -

PICTURES OF NICOLAS CAGE
To whoever runs this website, I love Face-Off, and and I know I am kind of late, but I just really got interested into Nicolas Cage, so I was wondering if you could send me all of the pictures of Nicolas Cage from any of his films, since I noticed that your pictures are different from anyone else's website. Please, can you send all of your pictures of him?  Thank You for your time. -Nikki

MY RESPONSE: Thanks for stopping by. I don't keep the pictures that I take directly form the film, sorry. Feel free to down load the pictures in hollywoodjesus.com and trim them any way you want for your own personal use.  -David Bruce
