Florida’s biggest Christian music festival moves to winter time frame with all-new dates
One of the largest Christian music festivals in the country is going to be cooler than ever.
Universal Studios Florida’s is moving its two-day Rock the Universe from its late summer September time frame to a winter date. Florida’s biggest Christian music festival will be held Feb. 1-2, 2019.
“Rock the Universe 2019 will feature the same great content with better dates,” Universal Studios said. “We’ve moved the dates of the event, which is popular with youth groups, to take place well after the start of school in most cities.”
Next year’s concert line-up features 12 of Christian music’s most popular artists, including Lecrae, Skillet, Matthew West, Bethel Music, Big Daddy Weave, Crowder, Matt Maher, Colton Dixon and Francesca Battistelli. The event requires a ticket separate from theme park admission at Universal Studios Florida in Orlando.
On Friday night, Feb. 1, Lecrae and Matthew West will be joined by Big Daddy Weave, Colton Dixon, Matt Maher and Rhett Walker Band. Besides Skillet, Bethel Music and Crowder on Feb. 2, Saturday evening’s performers include Francesca Battistelli, Micah Tyler and Ledger.
Launched in 1998, Rock the Universe, which is typically held in early September, usually the weekend after Labor Day, competed directly with Disney’s Night of Joy. However, Walt Disney World ended its Night of Joy festival after a 35-year run earlier this year. SeaWorld Orlando offers Praise Wave, a smaller series of Christian music concerts recently featuring Newsboys and Michael W. Smith.
The after-hours Rock the Universe event will again include a Fan Zone with additional live performances by DJ Promote and up-and-coming acts, as well as photo and autograph opportunities with some of the artists. Some of the theme park’s attractions such as the Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit and Revenge of the Mummy roller coasters as well as the new Fast & Furious: Supercharged attraction. Guests can also participate in a candle-lighting ceremony on Saturday, Feb. 2 and a non-denominational worship service on Sunday, Feb. 3.
Universal Studios Florida is offering a 3-Park Rock Your Weekend Park-to-Park Ticket. For about $60 per day (plus tax), the deal enables guests to visit Universal Studios Florida, Universal’s Islands of Adventure or Universal’s Volcano Bay (one park per day) during the day and enjoy Rock the Universe each night.
Several other ticket options are also available, including 1 and 2-night event tickets, discounted tickets for Annual Passholders, and special rates and packages for youth groups. Youth groups can take advantage of group vacation packages, which include one free ticket for every 10 purchased, chaperone access to lounges stocked with complimentary refreshments during the event and on-site hotel accommodations.
Guests are encouraged to a Rock the Universe Express Pass so they can skip the regular lines at their favorite attractions. A one-night ticket costs $68.99, while a two-night tickets runs $108.99.
