Flee for a little while thy occupations; hide thyself for a time from thy disturbing thoughts. Cast aside now thy burdensome cares, and put away thy toilsome business. Yield room for some little time to God, and rest for a little time in him. Enter the inner chamber of thy mind; shut out all thoughts save that of God and such as can aid thee in seeking him. Speak now, my whole heart! Speak now to God, saying, “I
seek thy face; thy face, Lord, will I seek.”
---SAINT ANSELM (C. 1033–1109)
Meditation is the soul’s chewing.
---WILLIAM GRIMSHAW (1708–1763)
What we do with our lives outwardly, how well we care for others, is as much a part of meditation as what we do in the quietness and turning inward. In fact, Christian meditation that does not make a difference in the quality of one’s outer life is short-circuited. It may flare for a while, but unless it results in finding richer and more loving relationships with other human beings or in changing conditions
in the world that cause human suffering, the chances are that an individual’s prayer activity will fizzle out.

ON THE IMPORTANCE OF MEMORY
If I'm sleepless at midnight,
I spend the hours in grateful reflection.
----Psalm 63:6 (Message Bible)
Honor and enjoy your Creator while you're still young,
Before the years take their toll and your vigor wanes,
----Eccles. 12:1 (Message Bible)
When my life was slipping away,
I remembered God,
And my prayer got through to you,
made it all the way to your Holy Temple.
----Jonah 2:7 (Message Bible)
Even though I scattered them to the far corners of earth,
they'll remember me in the faraway places.
They'll keep the story alive in their children,
and they will come back.
----Zech. 10:9 (Message Bible)
