“I think all great innovations are built on rejections.”
High school senior Bartleby is on his way to scoring 8 out of 8 rejection letters from colleges, which isn't going to go over big with Mom and Dad. At least he's not alone in the exclusion. Several of his crew of outcast friends are in the same, college-less boat. So...how does a guy facing a bleak career please his parents and get noticed by dream girl Monica? Answer: He gets innovative!
Here is a film about the “reject’ who brings innovation. And I just love it. Imagine a world where rejected people are accepted (Ohh, that somehow sounds amazingly spiritual, doesn’t it?). This is the foundation of this film.
No matter who you are, you are accepted! Wow! the very thought of that just thrills my soul.
In recent days, there has been an effort to demote innovation in the US. It seems to me that the thing that made America (and Europe) great–innovation--is the very thing being squashed by our current government. The examples are many. This film celebrates innovation and the entrepreneurial spirit that is necessary for progress as a society.
Steve Jobs is always good on this subject of innovation: “Innovation has nothing to do with how many R&D dollars you have. When Apple came up with the Mac, IBM was spending at least 100 times more on R&D. It's not about money. It's about the people you have, how you're led, and how much you get it.”
“Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower.”
Ahh, the creative spirit. It reminds me of the very image of God. The very first words in the Hebrew Bible are: “In the beginning God created…” And we are created in that same image. And so let it be.
