A story of revenge. The trailer comes across as a teen exploitation film. Interestingly, it was directed by award winning Betty Thomas. So, who is she, you might ask? Well, do you remember police officer Lucille Bates on the TV series Hill Street Blues? That was Betty Thomas. In the 80s she was an actress who was nominated for six Emmy Awards for this role and finally won one for Best Supporting Actress in 1985. Thomas made her feature film directorial debut in 1992 with Only You. She went on to direct several highly successful films, including The Brady Bunch Movie (1995), Private Parts (1997), Doctor Dolittle (1998), 28 Days (2000), and I Spy (2002). She has also produced several films, including Can't Hardly Wait (1998), Charlie's Angels (2000), and Surviving Christmas (2004). Revenge is what this film is about; exploring the idea of getting even. We have all been there. People do things to us and we want to get even. Somehow we want satisfaction, even justice. A humorous example of this appears in the Bible. Two of the disciple of Jesus, James and John, were so angry with some people that they Jesus, "Do you want us to call a bolt of lightning down out of the sky and incinerate them?" Jesus, as you might suspect, turned on them: "Of course not!" (Luke 9:54-55 Message Bible) Bible writers underscore the concerns Bible writers underscore the concerns of Jesus: "Don't repay evil for evil. Don't retaliate when people say unkind things about you. Instead, pay them back with a blessing. That is what God wants you to do, and he will bless you for it. "(1 Peter 3:9 New Living Translation) "See that no one pays back evil for evil, but always try to do good to each other and to everyone else. "(1 Thes. 5:15 New Living Translation) The way of Jesus is often difficult and so it is when dealing with rage and the feelings that result. That said, strive for the high road. Movies like this may help us to laugh at the complications that arise from revenge and perhaps even help us avoid similar silly revengeful acts. Josh Billings, one of the most famous US humor writers and lecturers, said it best: “There is no revenge so complete as forgiveness." Copyright © 2006 Hollywood Jesus. All rights reserved.
