TRAILER: The Mystery of the Lorax

The trailer for the film Dr. Seuss' The Lorax, set to be released March 2012, brilliantly draws the viewer into a world that could only be imagined by Dr. Seuss. Based on the 1971 book The Lorax, the film introduces the legend of the Lorax to a whole new generation.

What starts off as a possible love story quickly shifts into a wild, unpredictable adventure: an adventure to find trees. Just from the trailer's two and half minutes, you can tell this is a fable (dare, we say, a parable) regarding the dilemma of the environment. This could easily be a film communicating lessons on good environmental practices. But, there's got be more. The trailer, and rightly so, leaves the legend of the Lorax a bit of a mystery. Who is this small, yellowish, figure called the Lorax? Is the survival of the trees comparable to the survival of one's faith? Is the Lorax... a Christ-figure?

Based on the trailer, this is a must-see this spring. It promises to be a great theological discussion-starter. The film features the voices of Zac Efron, Taylor Swift, Betty White, Ed Helms, and Danny DeVito as the Lorax, and will be presented in 2D, 3D, and in IMAX.
