I've been watching a lot of weird movies lately. Ones where A-list actors are for some reason doing B-list movies. Maybe I'm getting cynical (I hope not), or maybe there are just too many movies being pumped out by the industry. I just started getting used to that feeling and brought it to The Seeker. Instead it was the opposite: lesser-known actors doing a pretty good movie... we'll say an A-minus type movie.

What MovedMe about The Seeker is here is this normal kid, Will Stanton, who is called into a fantastic adventure, but it's hard... real hard. See, Will is the chosen one, a seventh son of a seventh son, who must seek out 6 signs that will turn away The Rider, an evil being bent on destroying the earth. In doing so he can save the world.

What teenage boy, or any male for that matter, deep in his heart doesn't want to be such a hero? To be especially chosen to go on this quest, to be given special powers or giftings for that special quest. Will has it all, right? Well, all of a sudden he is ripped from his normal teenage humdrum life and into a battle. He doesn't know who his enemies or his allies are. It turns out family members and even a cute girl are both in cahoots with The Rider. He feels like he's stumbling through finding all of the signs, like he is inadequate. In other words, nothing is easy, it's a real battle.

And that is what following Jesus Christ is like... really following him.

Many try to make the Gospel (good news) of Jesus Christ a little more palatable by saying things like, "God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life." There are also whole churches and church movements that want to be what's called "Seeker Sensitive." Is it wrong to be "Seeker Sensitive" or "Seeker Friendly"? No, churches must do their best to be inviting, yet never water down God's message. Isn't it true that God loves us and has a wonderful plan for our lives? Yes, but that's not exactly the complete story.

I know when I first became a Christian, I thought, "Awesome, I am set for life now. I can just kick back and relax until I get to heaven." I hadn't read Chapter 12 of Revelations yet, where it describes a Dragon, much like The Rider, who wages war on everyone that follows God's commandments. I also later stumbled on the passage, "Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour."

What I'm trying to say is that believers in Jesus Christ are opposed by an enemy that is jealous and wants them to fail, to not have life, to be as disconnected from God as possible. It's a struggle, a fight when one is truly following Jesus and one's God-given calling in life. It may not seem like it, as it doesn't to Will in the movie, but the struggle and the fight are actually what make the Christian life worth living. Trust me, comfort and ease are overrated.

Know that you were fearfully and wonderfully made by an awesome and benevolent God. As a matter of fact, he does love you and has a wonderful plan for your life. It is one of meaning, purpose, and fulfillment; but it also must be fought for and struggled through. Until of course we are with him in heaven, where the Bible promises there are rewards for those who have fought well.

For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel's will save it. (Mark 8:35)
