"Arrogant" is a word that comes up often in Dogville. Even when it isn't vocalized, it is demonstrated in various ways. It is as if the film wants to show arrogance to be the main sin
that troubles our world. Of course, arrogance is a form of pride, which has been given the primary slot in the list of deadly sins, so perhaps arrogance does matter.

ON ARROGANCE

not a word of boasting, ever!

whose ways I hate with a passion—
pride and arrogance and crooked talk. --Proverbs 8:13 (Message Bible)
I'll put a full stop to the evil on earth,
terminate the dark acts of the wicked.
I'll gag all braggarts and boasters—not a peep anymore from them—
and trip strutting tyrants, leave them flat on their faces. --Isaiah 13:11 (Message Bible)
