The book of Revelation comes to life in the Spanish film.
By David Bruce
| Language: Spanish, and the original title is El Dia de la Bestia. Distributor: Trimark Pictures. |
Cast: Alex Angulo, Santiago Segura, Armando de Razza, Maria Grazia Cucino. Director: Alex de la Iglesia. Screenwriters: Alex de la Iglesia, Jorge Guerricaechevarria ![]() Premise: After studying the Book of Revelations for most of his life, a priest decides to begin committing every sin in The Book in an attempt to lure the Devil out of hiding, based on the belief that the Anti-Christ is about to be born. His streak of crime, depravity, and evil finds him teaming up with a heavy metal rocker and a television personality. This is a sick, twisted horror comedy with distinct Spanish inflections. This movie was a huge hit in its native Spain when it was released in 1995, and it finally maked it's way to the U.S. over 3 years later. It opened here on December 23, 1998 in LA and NY. On January 22 it opened in a wider area. I have not seen this film. It did not open near where I live. If you saw it let me know what you thought of ti. I am very curious. COMMENTS BRILLIANT FILM Saw this film in the Seattle International Film Festival, and have since tried to drag every single one of my friends to see it! Not only is it exciting, well paced, and suspenseful but also blasphemously funny. If you are not hooked by the opening scene, you are watching the wrong film! HOOKED ON THE BEAST I first saw this film one night at about 2:30 in the morning. I was just about to call an end to my channel surfing, as sleep was slowly taking over, but then I came across this film. It was already about 20-30 minutes into it but it just hooked me in straight away. Brilliant, after a while you don't even notice the subtitles. Story was pretty f***ing cool, and the part where the black goat stands up on it's hind legs and grins was way f***ing freaky. Very good for a foreign film. include("inserts/comment_dark_bkgd.htm"); ?>
