LACK OF TIME ON MIRACLES
Subject: HISTORICAL JESUS REPLY Peter_Jennings_Jesus
Date: Fri, 30 Jun 2000
From: Mrs D Howard

I watched it and was glad that a network would say something about Jesus; however I was not pleased about the lack of time spent on the miracles such as raising LAZARUS or the Resurrection. Faith is something that can never be proved and I thought Jennings said it well when he stated that they were not trying to prove the Bible accounts as to the deity of JESUS. I was still glad that they were talking about his influence on the world then and now.

ENORMOUS TATTOOS

From: Mecha Big Wig

Alot of these folks seem to get all ruffled about big G coming up on a religious sight. I've been to the conventions. Some of these people have enormous tattoos of Godzilla. All of them are there because Godzilla evokes a particular response in their psyche. I'm one of them, and I don't profess to be any bible thumper. But even I realize that there is something deeper than just a film character that we have in common. Could it be....Satan!? I don't think so.

IS THE UNCUT VERSION AVAILABLE ANYWHERE?
Subject: Just received my video set . . . Jesus

From: Heather

David, I just received my CBS 2-cassette video of "Jesus." I thought that this was going to be a director's cut, with that WONDERFUL ending of Jesus with the children, but it wasn't. Is there any way to get a copy of the director's cut with all the scenes that were included in the International version and left out of the CBS version? Please respond.

P.S. - last time I watched this movie was 6 weeks ago until now. It still was an experience that I can't put into words, other than to say my relationship with Jesus Christ will never be the same! (and I mean that in a good way! :-) Praise the Lord!

Response: Perhaps soon from Italy. Right now it is not possible. -David

From: Joe

Hello, i've been a godzilla fan since i was at least 5 and i'm now 16 and the way you think of Godzilla being a "demon god" is , to me, somewhat saying you think any form of monster is evil. Even though godzilla does destroy a city or two doesn't mean he is the devil or something like that. You should be more aware of the japanese creativity and see what godzilla is really for. Godzilla is entertainment, not some stereo-typical stuff like him being the serpent of death. If you criticize the way people act because of what it looks like, your not a real christian at all.

PASSION
Subject: Passion Peter_Jennings_Jesus

I taped the documentary and just got around to seeing it. I think the many modern shots of Israel were sobering and what some Christian people need to get their heads out of the clouds concerning the environment in which Jesus lived. On the other hand, way on the other hand, Jennings does what all journalists do when talking about Jesus as Lord. They weigh heavily in on the non-beleivers side than the believers. Maybe because they are taught that good journalism must be "fair" and fairness is governed by reason in our world causing even serious, sympathetic journalists to lose their way as they near the risen Christ. For example, Jennings allowed a scholar to posit that Jesus may have really healed, but His doing so simply fits in with present day holistic beliefs concerning healing. There was no real danger in approaching the power of our Lord as he raised Lazarus. Though he used the Bible more frequently than other journalists, he still seemed to be undercutting it each time with the well thought out objections of scholars, who showed very little real enthusiasm for Christ. Ironically, Jennings himself was the most passionate person in the program!

FUNDAMENTALISTS STRIKE AGAIN
Subject: The Search For Jesus! Peter_Jennings_Jesus
Date: Fri, 30 Jun 2000
From: Shane Fuller - Indianapolis, IN

The Fundamentalists strike again! Isn't it funny how fundamentalist are always upset about something. Peter Jennings told people at the beginning what this story was going to be about. Did the fundamentalist think they were going to turn on ABC and get a glowing report on the life of Christ and that the TV audience would be offered an invitation in the end? Come on! I believe Peter Jennings did a great job presenting the information. This program gave us a good look at the 'Jesus Seminar' and the ideas that they hold dear. It seemed to be balanced in having N.T. Wright and others share throughout the program. They all had seemingly equal time to share the different points of view. When it comes down to it, I as a Christian have faith in the apostolic accounts of the life of Jesus. I wasn't there either and so my faith and hope are in Christ and that He is who He claimed to be. I believe the eyewitness accounts given about His life through the apostles. It is faith. This seems to be what the Jesus Seminar is scared of. It isn't scholarly enough for them. But they do a great job understanding the history and backgrounds of the Jews which is very important if we are to understand the Bible in its original context. Yes, they came to some wrong conclusions, but so do the fundamentalist. And so do all of us. I would think that we would spend less time bashing these men and praying that as they study the texts of Scriptures that God would open their minds and give them the "Sixth Sense" of faith to see God! I thought this show was very helpful in understanding the many views of the life of Christ that are out there and how they apply to our everyday life. In this, I believe Peter Jennings accomplished His goal and gave a piece of good journalism.

WHAT ABOUT THE SWINE STORY?
Subject: John Coffey and Percy Whetmore Green Mile

From: Pastor Kevin Scheuller

RevKev5@centurytel.net

It's interesting that so many were troubled by the scene in which John Coffey saved the flies of corruption from the healing of the warden's (or was he the governor) wife. I would agree with the spirit of the argument that Coffey is a Christ figure and not a Jesus figure. What I find puzzling is that nobody else found the connection with the Bible which I remember seeing the first time I watched this scene in the film. Read Matthew 8:28-34 or Mark 5:1-17 or Luke 8:26-37 [all of which tell of Jesus' healing of the Gerasene demoniac(s) and casting the demons into the swine herd].

When Coffey had saved the flies of corruption from the healing of the wife of the warden, he cast them into Percy. Now, I would agree that Percy (while despicable) was still human and NOT a pig. But I still couldn't help but see the parallel. The swine herd that Jesus had cast the demons into ran down the cliff and drowned themselves in the sea. Percy, infested by the flies of corruption, cast himself towards killing Billy the Kid and (from that action) wound up in a mental hospital. It is also important to remember that Jesus cured the "dumb" (dumb in the classical sense of being mute, not stupid) from demons that silenced their victims. Coffey's act rendered Percy mute, thus saving Paul and Brutus and the rest of the guards from being snitched on by Percy.

It is also interesting to note that the reaction that this scene in the movie enkindled in many who watched it is similar to the reaction of the townspeople who witnessed Jesus casting the demons into the herd of swine - "they began to beg Jesus to leave their neighborhood." (Mt. 8:34; Mk 5:17; Lk 8:37). Ironically, many commented that this action of Coffey's was most un-Christlike. Maybe if they try to see the almost obvious parallel with the exorcism of the Gerasene demoniac, they may see that Coffey's actions weren't so un-Christlike after all.

THE INFAMOUS JESUS SEMINAR
Subject: Reaction to "In Search Of Jesus"
Date: Fri, 30 Jun 2000
From: Chris

I was underwhelmed by the level of journalistic integrity supporting this "study" of the historical Jesus. The fact that five of the scholars used for the "expertise" in this field were members of the infamous Jesus Seminar. The balance, to use the term very loosely, was provided by a neutral Jewish Rabbi, and a lone conservative Christian theologian. I am amazed that not one amin stream Seminary from the United States was consulted for their insights on the subject. If this is an example of journalistic integrity that exemplifies unbiased, objective reporting, I tremble for the church and for our country.

LACK OF OTHER KINDS OF SCHOLARS
Subject: Peter_Jennings_Jesus
Date: Thu, 29 Jun 2000
From: B. G. Tucker, Georgia

My husband and I found the show frustrating if not insulting. Not only was there a noticeable lack of scholars from the evangelical and Eastern Orthodox traditions, there were no Jewish scholars included for cultural background or for the Hebraic input on the historical Jesus. The comments toward the end from Ms. Fredricksen of Boston University made no sense,"I can't believe in the resurrection because I wasn't there." How does she accept anything as truth that is outside her immediate experience? The comments on the Judas story as being an anti-semitic spin doctoring seems kind of silly since most of the early Christians were Jews (why would they be anti-semitic, then?).

Again, saying that a group of Jews invented the resurrection story by borrowing it from the pagan mystery religions makes no sense in light of what we know about Judaism's separation from non-Jews at that time. The closing comments by the Anglican scholar on the resurrection were thoughtful, though. He said that something must have happened after Jesus death to change his disciples--otherwise they would have gone to another Messiah or just scattered. Amen to that, a strong evidentiary argument for the resurrection. The rest of the show was short on cultural background and true historical detail. I was hoping for more cultural/historical context and didn't get it.

This is a very toughing movie which I have not seen for many years. Danzel Washinton is also a great actor in portrating a tough guy who suffer the greatest injustice towards him by the Justice System. His acting leaves an indelible impression on me. One of the thing that impressed most is about the idear of transcendence. Can people really transcend who they are and who they suppose to me or the fate on them. Mr. Hurricane has showed that no matter what the world does to him, defines him, he still carry on his strong will to transcend who he really is. When one is supposed to be the weak, the unfortunate, the poor, the lesser god, the unsuccesfull, the passive, the less beautiful, the less intelligent, is he/she has the courage to determined to transcend, or at least try to transcend. This is where the hope is. God loves us all no matter who you are. He give the equal right to get the esteem we all deserve as a human being. Transcending is grand.

Our Jesus video finally arrived. We watch it and I see you did not include the, I guess they called it the, "Italian" version of Jesus, present time, ending sequence. Although I enjoyed the video more than the TV version, I was hoping to see more scenes. The video ad said there was 45mins worth unseen on TV. I did not see the TV version so I have nothing to compare it to. I hope a lot of the film didn't end up on the editing room floor. Scenes like the scene where the centurions were casting lots for Jesus' clothes. I just barely caught a glimpse of them doing so at the end of the video. You know what I mean. It's the kind of movie we would like to go on for another 2 hours worth!!!!

NO GAY AGENDA
Subject: "Gay Agenda"? Being_John Malkovitch
Date: Tue, 27 Jun 2000
From: Kadimah

I would like to respond to Paul, the man who said that Being John Malkovitch's "gay agenda" ruined the film for him. First of all, Paul, there is absolutely NO gay agenda, period, end of story. Relationships in films, especially films with so much symbology and cerebral imagery are NOT MESSAGES OF PROPAGANDA. This was someone's artistic vision...not someone's attempt to brainwash you into thinking that gays are your friends.

You are obviously very, very threatened by homosexuality to feel so very put upon by one gay relationship in a film. You don't see the relationship in the film as a simple relationship in a film, but automatically view it as evidence that someone is trying to mess with your head (Hollywood).

Second of all, you display your ignorance on your sleeve by so publicly attempting to psychoanalyze your neighbor. You take inventory of her life experiences and make a lot of disturbing assumptions about her thoughts and biology. You assume there is not a "born that way" scenario going on...as if it makes a difference. I would like to know why YOU care one way or the other. You have no need to concern yourself with anyone but yourself and your own relationship with God. If you feel the need to point fingers and concern yourself with other people's lives in this manner, you are obviously in denial about your ignorance and bigotry. What struck me about your post was that it was so cleverly disguised as "not hateful".

Some advice, Sir: reveal yourself to yourself as the ignorant hate monger that you are...God wants you to be honest with yourself.

Hi David, my name is DJ and I seen the miniseries "JESUS", and I have to say, that I loved it. I don't know if I will get a chance to watch the documentary tonight or not, but just to let you know, YES, I do believe in the resurrection of Christ. There were parts of the movie that were fictitious, but it also showed a side of Jesus that I never knew, and that was the side where he is laughing, dancing, having fun, and playing with children. That's the side of him that they don't talk about in church or in the Bible, and I thought it was awesome to see him as a normal human being as well as all the pain and suffering he went through for us. I hope that others will see it the same, and if they want to give me their opinion, then that would be great.

you fail to grasp the true meaning of the movie, that it is so real that it represents the truth in life. that as one becomes more and more driven by desperation, there begins a convergence. things stop mattering. the doctor becomes the patient. (e.g. Cage attempting to medicate himself) he who heals wounds shall inflict them. (cage's partner's beating of Noel) and even the living will die, and the dead shall live again. (rose) this move expounds the fact that, while we attempt to compartmentalize life and death, for all our might, there is no difference.

Hi David. Great job on the site! I absolutely loved the Jesus miniseries. Jeremy Sisto deserves all the credit he gets for this role because he blew me away. What a terrific job he did! My question though is, and forgive me for asking when tons of others have asked too, when or will the international version of the film be released for retail? It was a shame to cut out the last scene. I can't even describe it to my friends without breaking down because it was just so unbelievably beautiful. SOME THOUGHTS ON THE BEACH
Subject: The Beach review
Date: Mon, 26 Jun 2000
From: Dickson

In Gisborne, NEW ZEALAND on a Thursday morning you can have a personal showing of a recent release movie for $9.50 Believe me, I did. Actually the only reason I went to see The Beach was because Robert Carlyle (Riff Raff, Carla's Song, Hamish MacBeth etc) was billed as appearing, and without his disturbing, menacing presence this film would be considerably more limp than it already is.

Kind of. Basically, a grand looking young American (Leonardo DiCaprio) goes to Thailand to taste the wild things, meets a crazed Scot (played by Carlyle) who provides a hand scrawled map to a 'deserted island' paradise. DiCaprio, enlisting a gorgeous young French couple as companions, makes for the island and various adventures in 'paradise' ensue. A small international community of backpackers has carved out a life amongst the waterfalls and swaying palms.

We are expected to believe that a maniacal group of dope growing Thai bandits allow them half the island to gallivant about - so long as they "don't tell anyone else about the place". In between games of Donkey Kong and cups of herbal tea, the bronzed beauties practise scarification, spear fish and play cricket. Lord of the Flys meets Blue Lagoon.

Director Danny Boyle (Trainspotting) utilises a rather ham fisted voice over narration to assure us that our protagonist actually does have an inner life (a kind of GenX homage to Apocalypse Now). For me the one crucial observation, and a central redeeming truth for this film was the observation he makes that "at the perfect beach resort even death couldn't be permitted to get in the way of pleasure". Travel as the avoidance of boredom? Utopia as the avoidance of death? These central questions make this film, in the hands of skilful and well prepared facilitators, a potentially useful tool or discussion point for groups (be warned: the film contains sex, violence and drug use). Like it or not, movies like this are shaping the worldviews of countless young people.

Though the film lacks sustained tension, suffers flabby editing, relies too much on a good soundtrack for effect and has some unbelievably trite observations on 'life', it's also - at times - visually stunning, occasionally amusing and cleverly shot. What's most interesting about the film is that in its attempts to reflect loads of 'Globalised' backpacker culture it reminds one of how little there is new under the sunshine of a perfect tropical sky (to paraphrase Ecclesiastes).

It got me thinking about how good the Good News is to the relentlessly unsatisfied western youth culture - crudely but effectively dissected in the movie. And the challenge of communicating the liberty of Jesus to them. Listen out for the exceptionally well timed Unkle song lyric "God knows your lonely soul..." at the closing credits. Now how'd that get in there!

HERESY
Subject: Late comments but I had to say something. Omega Code
Date: Sun, 25 Jun 2000
From: "Larry Rudd"

I wandered into the movie thinking that it was the Arnold Swartzniger flick "End of Days", however, to my astonishment I found out it wasn't. The house was packed and we had to sit in the front row, I had nothing better to do (I probably should have thought harder) so I stayed. Boy was I surprised with what I saw. The movie has good instructional value for theology students on picking out the heresies. The first and biggest is the use of "secret codes" in scripture to find unknown or hidden information. This is a pure Gnostic heresy! On this count alone all those affiliated with making or remotely promoting this flick should seriously inspect themselves and hopefully repent.

As for the other Pre-millennial eschatological aspects of the movie, it seems to be assumed by everybody that this is the way things are or will be. This is not necessarily the case. I cannot promote a movie that claims to be a Christian story (even if fictionalized) that promotes a proven heresy. Therefore, I would never recommend this movie.
Thanks, Larry Rudd

My Bulletin Board: All these movies moved me for one reason or another. That is how I know the movie is worth watching. Except for the musical bits in The Sound of Music, they all have a human story to tell and they all say it pretty well. I think less of the action flicks and more of dramas and human elements in movies. Death, life, choices, families and spirituality should be what all movies are about. Afterall, we must experience these things at some point and having seen many stupid and mind-dumbing movies over the years, I should say that we should be more interested in feeling what it is like to be human and having to make hard choices and using our consciences to guide us and not what the defunct majority tell us is good to see. That's my opinion, of course.

REAL FAITH
Subject: Bruce's anti-faith comment Matrix
Date: Sat, 24 Jun 2000
From: Andy

One of the letter-writers, identified only as Bruce (I wish he'd revealed his email addy), wrote in connection to THE MATRIX: "The devil whispers, 'You are sick.' If we choose to believe his reality, indeed we show symptoms of sickness. But if we respond with God's Word, as Jesus did when tempted by Satan... 'No evil shall befall me nor shall any plague come near my dwelling. God will give His angels charge over me...by His stripes I am healed...' " I wonder why Paul did not give Timothy the same advice in 1 Timothy 5:23, where the apostle wrote, "Stop drinking only water, and use a little wine because of your stomach and your frequent illnesses." Bruce is actually promoting an ANTI-faith concept--the idea that unless God heals us of all our physical ailments, we must be somehow out of touch with Him.

Real faith would trust in God DESPITE SUFFERING. In the verses of Scripture that speak of us being "healed" by Jesus' death on the cross, that is actually speaking of SPIRITUAL healing, in which sin is our spiritual disease that we need to be cured of. The Bible does NOT teach that God will necessarily heal us of physical ailments, not until the glorious age to come when we have transformed bodies.

DEFY THE EMPEROR
Subject: Maximus the Merciful? Gladiator
Date: Sat, 24 Jun 2000
From: Andy

Hi. In response to the person who wrote that Maximus showed mercy to one of the gladiators he vanquished, and was hailed by the crowd as a hero for doing so---I think that although the character of Maximus was relatively more merciful than the average man of his culture, he was in that particular scene contesting indirectly with Commodus. The former champion gladiator was lying beaten and injured, Maximus standing over him, and the crowd was waiting to see what the emperor's response would be. Commodus made the gesture for the man's death, but Maximus refused to kill him. I don't think Maximus's point was to be merciful, but simply to defy the emperor. In other words, had Commodus called for mercy---Maximus would've killed the man. The crowd itself was not being particularly merciful; rather, they were caught up in the contest of wills between Maximus and Commodus; they loved Maximus for being his own man and defying the emperor.

FRUSTRATED TO SING ABOUT SING ABOUT
Subject: Frustrated. Something to Sing About..
Date: Tue, 20 Jun 2000
From: "Robyn"

I know I'll be the 'odd one out' on this, but I'll say it anyway... and it isn't intended to be disrespectful towards anyone who either liked 'Sing' or or those who put it together. I'm glad there is Christian entertainment out there in any shape or form ... but I just wish it could be at least half the quality as mainstream offerings. Please understand this is only one person's opinion [yes, I'm Christian, btw :)], but I am interested in the film industry as a career and therefor understand the process/ what makes a good movie/etc. perhaps better than I would otherwise. Maybe that is the only reason for my thoughts on the matter. Maybe not :).

Why I thought it lacked quality: *"special effects" such as the cut on Nall's cheek obviously fake *story - it was extremely, extremely, *extremely* predictable... nearly every element was obvious from the first few minutes [Tommy's whole story, Nall's conversion, etc.] *acting rarely didn't *look* like it was acting *dialogue was usually stale/unnatural *this 'bold' presentation of the gospel sat the fence between natural and "bold" ... and preachy and roll-the-eyes-and-turn-the-channel. That said, I am also considering it from an adult stand point. It would be different for children under... maybe 12-14. *even the settings and lighting screamed FAKE/LOW BUDGET/RELIGIOUS ATTEMPT AT CONVERTING THE MASSES. I applaud the effort, and I'm glad Christian material beat out other projects.

But I know that all of my non-Christian friends would have taken one look at the acting, the lines, the contrived story, etc. and figured they'd wait til Sunday to get their dose of religion when Aunt Betsy hauled their butt into the pew by force. It doesn't matter how good, how true, how necessary the message is if nobody sticks around to hear it. In my opinion, if this movie's intent was to help people along their journey to Christ's feet, it failed.

However, as a good family movie, I certainly find nothing wrong with it. I just wish that we wouldn't continue to reaffirm the idea that Christians have nothing to offer in the realm of art/film/etc. that is on par with the rest of the world.
Love in Christ, Robyn.

NO DIRECTOR'S CUT
Subject: URGENT INFO ON THE CBS JESUS FILM!
Date: Fri, 23 Jun 2000
From: Aiwkid

PLEASE Post this on your main page so everyone can see it because this is vital to people who want the Director's Cut of the Jesus film. We all know the video is the CBS version and some have wondered about the DVD. I went to Amazon.com and clicked on "technical information" on the Jesus movie DVD. Well, it said running time 173 minutes. Now, I had recorded the movie off CBS and I managed to but off commericals. I played the tape from the beginning and when it ended, it amounted to 173 minutes!!!!!! This means that the DVD is NOT the Director's cut! What a rip-off!

MY MOM, SUNDAY SCHOOL, AND DOGMA
Subject: Misunderstood Hollywood Dogma
Date: Fri, 23 Jun 2000
From: Jessie

Gotta thank my sunday school teacher for throwing a kink in my armor called, "HollywoodJesus.com." He really got me looking at all the secular books, music & movies I enjoy in another light. But speaking on "Dogma:" I have to say my mother was a little less than thrilled when she heard what movie I rented --and even less enthused as she heard me LITERALLY rolling in the floor over the audacious & sometimes very REAL comments made in "Dogma." I remember when it came out, people URGED me though e-mails NOT to see this movie.... NOT to support Hollywood in its pursuits of such (insert choice negative word here). But I never did seek its opposite either.

I literally stumbled upon "Dogma" in the video store and tried it. Granted it wasn't the BRIGHTEST of directed films, but to a Ever-Growing Christian, it made me think. For example: Fallen angels? Okay. A 13th Diciple? Maybe. People struggling with Spirtual problems in a secular world? DEFINETLY! Yeah, Jesus was a giver, a healer, a lover, a believer... he was HUMAN too. And yeah, look at how we put Him & things centered around Him into these cute little boxes, and not let them GROW beyond that. God as a woman? God as a man? Doesn't matter to me... I think if females were made in His image too, then He could even be hermaphaditic!

In relating my experience to my mom the next day, she STILL wasn't too thrilled, but saw a glimpse of the insight I took into my own soul & beliefs that night after watching it. I did tell her that I didn't recommend my baby sister seeing it, b/c on her emotional/spiritual level she would simply look at all religious beliefs as a farce. Like some books, this movie is not for the wavering Spiritually Immature. "Dogma" is DEFINITELY not for everyone. Not even all scholarly Christians could look at it with an open mind --but it does encourage you to look at the SKIN YOU LIVE IN and what makes it up. It's good to "think outside of your box" every once in a while, and at least ponder, if not grow/change from it.

David, why do we have to beat around the bush when it comes to Christianity and try to make it sound cool by likening it to movies that are "in". Wouldn't it be better to preach the word in and out of season (2 Tim 4:2 when it's popular and when it's not)? Today we are in need of Christians who will declare the truth and not compromise their morals or take hollywood as our examples for life. You mentioned Ethan and Nyah as being "The new Adam and Eve" in a "monogamous relationship of fidelity". Have you actually seen this movie? Do you know what "monogamous" and "fidelity" mean? I suggest all visitors to this site look up the meanings. Do you think it's right to align the inspired Word of God to the immorality of hollywood?
Regards, Youth Leader, Potters House, Darwin.

Comment: Well, motion pictures are now the universal language so I use 'em in an Acts 17:16-34 sort of a way. Monogamous? Literally, it means being married to one person. My use has to do with emotional fidelity. Perhaps I could pick another word. But, I don't know it seems to work for me. Immorality of Hollywood? Yes, there is immorality in Hollywood, and sometimes even in the church. I think it's a universal problem. I mean, I think I am immoral at times (Rom 3:23). How is it for you? Aligning? I think dialog is better than throwing stones (John 8:3-11).

Hi David, I first found your page trying to find info on the x-men new movie then there was something about Superman and Jesus (your link to your review) and then I found this about the Jesus movie... so funny.... (tlaking about the Superman Jesus movie....... ET has a Jesus thing in it as well.... but I really hate ET and the whole thing)

Anyways I live in Frankfurt, Germany though I am originally from Guatemala. I love Jesus and I think this video could be a way to share the Gospel with the guys of the Youth Group here in Germany. Better if is in English. Most guys here speak English, and about how "exact" is according the Bible i'll say that we as Christians have to concentrate in the message, that is the Gospel..... the technicallitites can be talk over with the doubts and is a great way to get deeper into the bible trying to know more about Jesus.

I haven't seen the movie but I already heard about this guy Lorenzo Minoli and how a great work he is doing. Way to go !!!! I'm looking forward to see the movie and i just saw there are other Bible movies available from his productions..... that's great !! So...... where can I get the International version (not only of Jesus but the other movies) here in Germany.... or EU ??? . I already checked Amazon.de and Amazon.uk and nothing. I will need some DVD or VHS with the code and format for EU. In your page there is lots of links to buy it in the US but not in EU..... so..... ??????..... remember the world is Big out there....

By the way, your web page is great..... though technically talking your page could look better, is just proven that is the content that matters. there are super cooler web pages with ..... well lets say it in nicely : crap. Is that how u say it ???...... men let me tell you my few German is getting mixed with my English and my Spanish has a weird accent. Anyways, GOD bless you and prosper you in everything that brings HIM glory !!!
In Jesus, Cesar Ruiz.

Response: Yea you are right, I should think more internationally. The problem is I can not keep up with what I am already doing. But I am looking for helpers!

When I first saw this movie at school I was like wow. It really is a great movie mainly because everyone was saying Homer can grow up to be a miner just like his dad but that's not what Homer wants. If you believe in yourself (and in Jesus Christ) and work hard enough you will succeed your goals in life. I'm trying to get my parents to watch it maybe they can learn something. The only thing I didn't like about it was when his father and Miss Riley died it was so sad! What makes it even more inspiring is that it was a true story. The theme song was so pretty!

Even though John Woo indicates he is a Christian, my spirit was definitely not lifted toward God in watching his Hard Target. So I gave Face Off a chance. Needless to say, I doubt if I will give M-I 2 a chance. The cost is just too high.

Response: Apples and oranges. The movie house is not church. There is a big difference. Never watch a film with the same expectations that you have when you go to church. Right?

From: eegor

I loved this movie. I can't remember when last I wept during a movie, but I cried for Death's admission of loneliness and friendlessness. He wished to learn about life, and was allowed to glimpse what it is like to love and be part of a loving family, but he would not be allowed to keep the life for which we all yearn. The loving relationship between father and daughters was portrayed beautifully, and the love between Quince and his wife and father-in-law was something to be envied also. I disagree with critics who scoffed at Brad Pitt's speaking to the Jamaican woman in patois. Death would be expected to speak all dialects, but since he was inhabiting a human's body, would have that body's tone of voice.

I think Mr. Pitt did a first-class job in the dual role and seemed to gain stature. I had only previously seen him in 'Thelma and Louise' where he played a villainous teenager. This role showed a good deal of hard work. He is extremely handsome, and like Tom Cruise, Robert Redford, and others before him, he has to work harder to prove himself an actor and not just a pretty face.

The only flaws in the performance may have been due to over-direction or lack of direction, but he held his own next to the great Anthony Hopkins. No one seemed to object when Death spoke in the Mid-Atlantic accent of Mr. Hopkins. It is ironic that so much was spent on this movie to create the lavish sets, etc., and now it seems to be playing better on the 'small screen' where it does not matter if the fireworks were actually shot from real barges in the river instead of being created on a computer.

LAW SAID DON'T TEACH THE BIBLE. DISOBEY THE CHURCH
Subject: Bonhoeffer
the law said he could not teach or preach the Bible. Disobey the church? Date: Mon, 19 Jun 2000
From: "UM Parish"

Would I do the same? Yes Reason; Scripture is very clear that in matters of witness (Gospel and Acts) we are to be obedient and preach. We have an higher authority. However, be prepared for the consequences. Authorities are ordained by God but when they block the spread of the gospel we are to be faithful to God. Be careful here, that, is in fact what is being done and not some personal excuse for circumventing the law.

Disobeying the church? What church? Is it really a church when it has become apostate and unfaithful in the ministry of justice and truth? It is done all the time. Wesley did it. It can be God's wake up call or judgment upon a dead church. Hope to see the movie. I am a Bonhoeffer fan myself. For what it's worth(not much)

I first saw this film one night at about 2:30 in the morning. I was just about to call an end to my channel surfing, as sleep was slowly taking over, but then I came across this film. It was already about 20-30 minutes into it but it just hooked me in straight away. Brilliant, after a while you don't even notice the subtitles. Story was pretty f**king cool, and the part where the black goat stands up on it's hind legs and grins was way f**king freaky. Very good for a foreign film.

So far I've heard of some bad expectations for the Bible film airing on NBC. Too many people are judging it because of that Noah's Ark trash but you must realize that not every NBC movie is directed and produced by the same people. Jesus of Nazareth is one of the greatest Jesus films ever made and guess where it's from? That's right, NBC. I'm planning on watching The Bible, regardless of how the horrible Noah's Ark came out (yes, I too had to turn off the tv after only watching Noah's Ark for only a half hour, I couldn't stand it).

FANTASTIC FANTASIA

From: Carey

I just saw Fantasia 2000 last night and I was completely wowed by it! I know that I saw the original Fantasia when I was younger, but it was a long time ago, as well as on television... NO COMPARISON! As I watched Noah, with the help of his assistant, Donald, gather the animals, I was encouraged to imagine how the ark must have been with so many different species of animals all together. Despite the fact that it was hilarious, I had tears in my eyes when Donald and Daisy found each other. It was so powerful when their eyes met and their faces lit up with joy. The flamingos had the entire movie audience (myself included) roaring with laughter. So that's what happens when you give a flamingo a yo-yo...

The artistry and long hours of hard work were incredibly evident. The music is amazing and watching the stories unfold along with the music will stay with me for a very long time. A lot of love and expertise went into making this landmark film. I was blessed by the time I spent sitting back in my seat... watching with awe and child-like wonder. EVERYONE should see this...

A REVIEW
Subject: Bonhoeffer
Date: Sat, 17 Jun 2000
From: Peter

The Bonhoeffer film was interesting, but pretty weak in cinematic technique. It was only 90 minutes long, but with what it covered could have and should have been at least two hours. Because it is so short, the dramatic pulse of the film is erratic, and Bonhoeffer's theology comes out not so much as an integral part of his life, but as a few good one-liners. The scene where his soon-to-be fiancee is glancing over his writings is rather silly-- she just reads a set of nice little quotes. It's Bonhoeffer turned into soundbites.

Then there is the scene in the bombed out church near the end, when he goes into a spontaneous sermon on the future of Christianity. It's full of great ideas, but instead it sounds like a section of a theological text that is interjected into a dramatic film, which I'm sure it was. A much better moment in the film was when Bonhoeffer prayed with the prisoner in the cell next to his, in which we hear his theological ideas meshed with his pastoral action.

Then there is the issue of Bonhoeffer's own personal sacrifice, which comes off cold and detached. That's my main problem with this film. A subject like this ought to come across like Schindler's List, but instead it turns out more like a cool-headed documentary. Leave it to Christians to take a guy like Bonhoeffer and make him vanilla. Of course, that was probably the whole point. If evangelicals got a whiff of Bonhoeffer's greatest theological ideas, they would probably disown him. Instead, they emphasize "The Cost of Discipleship" and ignore the really important ideas like the ones in his final sermonette about the future of Christianity.

CHANGED MY LIFE

From: Gerber

Your website is truly outstanding! I just want to say that as a B&R (born and raised) Catholic, I was moved to tears by this film. The portrayal of Jesus by Jeremy Sisto was truly inspired. This is the first film that emphasized that Jesus Christ was FULLY human as well as FULLY divine. The director, producer, cast and crew are to be commended on this triumphant project. On a personal note, the film helped to solidify my personal relationship with Jesus Christ. I realize that the filmmakers took some artistic liberties, but the scriptures do tend to leave some details up for speculation. Even the Gospel writers stated "Jesus performed many more works, too many to be written here." I think people need to focus on the SPIRIT of this film, which was that Jesus lived, died and rose here on Earth, He was/is the Son of God, and He continues to dwell among us. Congratulations to Jeremy, Jacqueline, Gary, Jerome, Debra, Armin and the rest of the cast. And thank you, Lorenzo, for making this film. It changed my life.

Thanks. Just a quick comment on B.C., the comic strip. I appreciate J. Hart's Christian themes, but the sexism in the strip is jarring in the same context as a Christian message. I find his naming a character "Fat Broad" particularly offensive. Hart might wish to model his Christianity by showing respect for women, who -- like men -- are created in the image of God.

I would love to here of how the Camern's became Christians. Also I would like to see cast pictures, (I would too) as well as here how the distribution is going to come about. Will the film be in movie houses all around the country like say a star wars film. (Yes, this is the plan) or will it be in only the ones that will take a Christian film. Also what of the other books are their movie plans for the rest of them?(Just talk right now) As far as the film is I just hope that they take their time on making it we need hollywood quality films for Christians. MISSED IT BUT...
Subject: I Missed It-But Would Like to Comment JesusMiniSeries
Date: Fri, 16 Jun 2000
From: "Wylie, Velvia"

I missed the airing of Jesus, I but I going to rent it as soon as Blockbuster gets it. I'm not sure about most of everyone's negative comments, but I am VERY disturbed about how a love relationship is CONTINUALLY referred to by people on this board as LUST. Since we know Jesus is perfect, and sinless, then we know that his love for Mary had to be PURE and SINLESS. Love does not equal lust. Even I, as a sinful human, can romantically love a man without having lust in my heart. And about John asking Jesus to confess. Not having seen the movie, I can't really begin to comment, accept to maybe ask, Did Jesus actually confess any sins?

And what's wrong with Jesus asking the Devil how could he give him power? Merely asking the question says nothing. The devil could have gone on for 40 days with descriptions of how he could get Jesus power-Jesus still would not have fallen to temptation. And one person said that Jesus knew that his prayers would be answers before he prayed them. I don't think that's true. He prayed that if it was God's will, would he take the cup from his lips. i.e. He prayed not to have to go through the crucifixation et. al, but that was the way God willed it to happen and He obeyed God's will. I really want to see the miniseries.

From the comments, I'm not sure that I'll agree with every artistic license taken-but I'm sure that I'd like it, overall. Because, I have read the Bible. Including All Four Gospels. And I love Jesus with my whole heart. But let's be real people. The Gospels don't include every word Jesus ever spoke, every miracle or deed he ever did. We can only "guess, figure, reason" what he did in the times that the Gospels do not speak about. I do believe it is true that we only need the Bible to know who Jesus is to fall in love with Him, and to allow Him to become the Lord of our lives. But I don't fault the movie-makers for "filling in the gaps" and providing a more complete picture. Our minds do it any way. We try to figure out who Jesus really is-that comes with having a personal relationship with Him. Or at least it should.

Too many people accept that He is God, but don't try to see that Jesus was also human, and can empathize with us in EVERY WAY. Which bring me full circle. How could Jesus know how I, personally, feel when I am in love with a non-Christian who wants me to be with him and deny my Christian calling, if he didn't deal with the same sort of issue? Christ had every opportunity to sin, just like we do, but unlike us, He JUST didn't. Because He is the Christ. Now and Forever. Wow, I had a lot to say and I haven't even seen the movie yet.

Oh, David...Just one more comment about the John the Baptist scene. Just because John the Baptist questioned Jesus' identity before he, John, died, does not mean that he questioned Christ's identity in the beginning. I highly doubt the the forerunner for Jesus could doubt Jesus while standing in His presence. I chalk up the doubts about Jesus that John had at the end to him being human and scared, about to die, and just wanting reassurance from his Lord whom he hadn't seen in some time. It's easy to doubt when you are not in the presence of the Lord. Anyone feel free to email me. God Bless You All.

From: mandm

I have always been a fan of Dietrich Bonhoeffer. He was a man of strong moral conviction who was willing to take action to save others, risking his life (and ultimately sacrificing it) in the process. I desparately want to view the movie you are promoting on hollywoodjesus.com, 'Bonhoeffer-Agent of Grace'. I couldn't find times anywhere on the site which I first viewed on June 14th. I checked the TV Guide and it looked like it was supposed to air at 9:00 PM CST on June 14th. It wasn't on, though!!!!! HELP!!! When you're promoting a program, could you please make date, channel and time info available? Is it coming on again, and when? Also, Bonhoeffer is misspelled on the front page of your site (the bold yellow print spells his name 'Bonhoffer'!! Thanks for any help you can give me. The site is very impressive otherwise!!!!!!!!
Please do not post my e-mail address. THANKS

Response: It played at different times in various areas. It was a PBS show so, it did not show in some areas, and you were probably in one of those areas.

NEVER HEARD BONHOEFFER MENTIONED IN LUTHERAN CHURCH!
Subject: Agent of Grace! Bonhoeffer
Date: Thu, 15 Jun 2000
From: Linda Wichman

Last night I watched the movie Agent of Grace, the Deitrich Bonhoeffer story and I haven't thought about much else since then. It's been a long time since I've viewed a movie that held me captive from the first scene, which happened to include the credits. As one born of German stock, a former Lutheran and born-again-Christian, I can only say BRAVO! It's about time Christians make proud noise about the brave martyrs of Christ's church, especially of the past century.

Having been raised in the Wisconsin Lutheran Synod, I regret to say, I never heard in twelve years of Christian education and forty years in the church one mention of Bonhoeffer, nor have my two teenagers who were raised Lutheran. Ironically many of my Bible churched friends knew a lot about him. Well, back to the movie. I admit I was skeptical because it was being broadcast on PBS. Formerly a strong supporter of PBS, I rarely watch the network now because of its often extreme left wing views that seem to outweigh my conservative Christian values. Only when I heard that AAL was sponsoring the movie and of their efforts to ensure the Christian theme and stay true to Bonhoeffer's faith did I decide to watch.

Bonhoeffer's courage made me ashamed of my flimsy faith. I found myself asking would my hand have been up or down when the Nazi Judge gave the Christians in the church an alternative to practicing their faith with Hitler's blessing by pledging their allegiance to him or go to prison if they refused? Not to mention the similarities to the end times and the Antichrist.

I wish my two teenagers had been home to see it! I strongly feel that this is a movie that should be used in youth groups and encouraged for family members to view together. I could go on and on... but all I can say is God's hand was clearly evident in the making of this film and I bless all of those who were responsible for bringing this wonderful, true story of faith to the public screen.
Good bless, Linda Wichman
