I just wanted to say that the seen where Connie Nielson tries to reach Tim Robbins is not absurd. Due to the gravitational pull, Connie wouldn't have had enough to get her and Tim back to the others. I just wanted to clear this up, because obviously you overlooked it.

INSIDER INSIGHT
Subject: The Cost of Winning -The Insider

From: Michael

For me, the most telling moment in the film was near the very end. Pacino's character has manipulated the network into "breaking" the story, and goes home to his wife. The absolute passivity in Pacino's face when his wife says, "We won!" is stunning. This is PACINO we're talking about (think about "On Any Given Sunday" if you want, or "Dog Day Afternoon"). The message? Some battles just aren't worth winning. The human cost is too high. And yet, they must be won at all costs, once you've started. They Might Be Giants may have said it best: "You can't shake the devil's hand / and then say you're only kidding."

ABOUT CYPHER
Subject: The Matrix
Date: Fri, 14 Apr 2000
From: Adam

Hello There! I stubled onto your site this evening and was glad many people have also seen the significance of the matrix and its biblical overtones. I did not have to read anything before I knew what I would hear. I was sure I was going to hear two different sides of a story. There are always 2 sides to every story. What do you want to see? If you go looking foir something, will you find it? Will you find more of what you expected too? When we read the bible do we have our own ideas of what it is we want to hear? The biblical overtones are obvious.

I also like the Cypher character. If you do some research on what a Cypher (or cipher) is you will be pleasantly surprised. I will just say that most of us experience ciphers everyday. (I am not talking about the person now). Yet Cypher displayed every part of a self fulfilling prophecy. There is no end to deception. In fact deception and lies build up on top of each other until it becomes one big circle. Hence cipher. Some may still believe the world is one big cipher. In fact Yin and Yang is probably one of the most well known ciphers! It is hard for me to explain what I feel inside. Do some research on cipher and see what you come up with.

LOTR PARALLELS CHRISTIAN JOURNEY.
Subject: Lord Of The Rings - parallels with all Christian's journeys
Date: Fri, 14 Apr 2000
From: "Mark Storm" storm@ruralnet.net.au

Dear David, once again I've been tempted to put fingers to keyboard and tap away. Here's some of my thoughts on the upcoming Lord Of The Rings.

What can one say about Lord Of The Rings that has not already been said? Voted "novel of the century" by the British reading public, printed and reprinted in every major language of the globe, studied in universities throughout the world... the raw material for countless anthropological, psychological, literary and artistic theses... the book is clearly one of the masterpieces of human achievement. Why? Because the characters - and their stories - in the Lord Of The Rings speak words and perform deeds that are appreciably human. Yes, Frodo is a hobbit, Legolas is an elf, Gimli is a dwarf... all true... but their actions and words are all the actions and words of people, whether exulted or humble. And this humanity - strengths and weaknesses, successes and failures - echoes with every individual's sense of their own humanity. And that is the genius of Tolkien's art. His words, time and again, touch on those deeply felt images we all have of 'Father', 'Mother', 'god', 'devil'... 'Small-Man-In-The-Great-Scheme'... And how much more so do they reverberate with those who have come to know the challenges of resisting evil...? ...of doing that which is right, no matter what the cost? Frodo, for a tiny moment of time in his world, bears the weight of all his world's wickedness... and so the character parallels our own Jesus in our world... and both these stories echo with our own most pressing challenges. In our own private worlds at times, when do we not see ourselves as loyal Samwise, wise Gandalf, serene Galadriel, valiant Eowyn... noble Aragorn? And at times, rare times when we are at our best, perhaps we can even be said to be like 'little Christs'? So then, the upcoming Lord Of The Rings faces an awesome challenge. In what must these forthcoming live-actor trilogies succeed in doing that the animated versions previously attempted and failed? Tolkien fans will probably recall (with mixed emotions) the efforts of Rankin and Bass and Ralph Bakshi to bring Tolkien's Middle Earth to screen. These animated versions, while bravely pioneering the incredible demands of editing / selection of Tolkien's works, failed to convey the sense of grandeur and the essentially human element that permeate Tolkien's Middle Earth saga. If an audience is to remember and cherish the memory of a character, then that character has to 'ring true' with the audience's deeply felt shared concepts of "Hero", "Villain", "Father", "Mother", "Adventurer", "Lover"... "God". Every one of us has our own in-built knowledge of what these archetypal images should be like. Disney, at their best, are aware of this, and their animators' gift is their ability to convey this awareness through their art. Who can forget the scene where Dumbo's mother rocks him to sleep, cradling him in her trunk? Child and Mother. Who can forget the moment when Belle, her Beast's life slipping away, declares "I love you!"? The Pure-Hearted Woman and the Cursed-yet-redeemed Lover. Or, for a more historical non-Disney moment; when William Wallace, played by Mel Gibson, shouts "Freedom!" at the end of his life? Hero... Christ-like hero. When a movie can move our hearts like this, the movie makers have captured and re-created the very essence of Romance - the stuff of Legend - the fire and passion that rings through every line in Lord Of The Rings. Will these artistic sensitivites and talents be evident with the latest version of Lord Of The Rings? One hopes so, otherwise despite all the special effects and razzle dazzle we will have just another fantasy screen opera - different only in time and place from that of George Lucas' Star Wars features (which, by the way, are generally recognised as being heavily influenced by Lord Of The Rings... and then some!) Our expectations, then, run high... but then, itsn't that so symptomatic of these times? Worldwide, we are all, it seems, holding our breath in frustrating anticpation of Something Big That's Gonna Happen! The end of the world? Or is it The Return Of The King - Lord Jesus Christ, perhaps, we await? We need movies like Lord Of The Rings. They remind us of the grandeur and wonder of our world - and of being human in this, our own, Middle Earth.

Thanks again, David (whether you post this 'review' or not) Keep up the great work. Mark

PHILOSOPHICAL CHANGE
Subject: Explains conversion to a "T" -The Matrix
Date: Thu, 13 Apr 2000
From: Larry

The Matrix is one of the best examples of the kind of philosophical change a person goes through in conversion. "Eat the Red Pill" and you dive off the deceptive merry-go-round "Eat the Blue Pill" and you keep on riding. Some wish to "turn back" after putting their hand to the plow, as in the character that wishes to return to the lie. I like it when Neo touches the mirror, it's just like when you become a Christian, except the ultimate realization is not the same (negative robot controlled slavery instead of love salvation and eternal life.) However, it's a scary "jump" just the same. The Matrix depicts a radical philosophical paradigm shift using the best special effects Hollywood has to offer, it's a great teaching tool. When someone repents and believes they go through a shift in outlook and worldview on the same order of magnitude. Look at it this way, if the God who spoke reality into existence revealed some truth to you, wouldn't that be tantamount to "eating the red pill"? Thanks, Larry

Lion King - themes of baptism, Mufasa's voice telling us to "remember who we are - you are my son ( or daughter) and you are more then you have become..." - something God must say very often.
Dead Poets Society - Carpe Diem "Make your lives extraordinary"
The Iron Giant is also great with spiritual themes =-the power of good and evil is in all of us - what will we do with it.
Steel Magnolias - in the end Easter always comes, new life begins - "That's the way Shelby would have wanted it "
Forrest Gump - love the Lord with all of your heart, mind, soul and strength and love your neighbor as yourself - Forrest was the epitmoe of this scripture in action - he loved everyone unconditionally, and unwavering.
And as silly as it is - it's on video - but...
Pooh's Grand Adventure - Christopher Robin has to leave his friend pooh but reminds him that he is never alone - it reminds me of what Christ tried to tell his disciples during the last supper
- Just a few of the many, many that are out there that I love. Thanks for your great site

WE WILL ALL BE CHANGED
Subject: Sixth Sense

From: Lyn Mc

Thanks for the non-spoiler review, plus the run down on symbolism. In addition to the 'spiral' effect of the staircase, note its affinity with the chambered nautilus -- a sea creature's shell that has long been used to illustrate the passage from life to life, each new "room" adding to the mansion the creature leaves behind. I also think this is a perfect post-resurrection illustration of "we will all be changed." My only regret was the amount of whispering in the film -- hard to watch with the hard of hearing. Rev. JOAN OF ARC PERPETUATES VIOLENCE IN YOUTH
Subject: Joan of Arc
Date: Wed, 12 Apr 2000
From: Remi

Just read your review on Joan of Arc, and it left me baffled. You write that something went amiss, and the only thing gone amiss here, is you and people like you who perpetuate the evil circle of violence in this country by bringing you 12 !! year old child to see a movie which she most likely has NO clue about

My response: I can not take my 12 year old to see Joan of Arc? Really? Oh my, perhaps I should keep her away from Good Friday church services where they talk about the violent death of Jesus on a cross. I do not in any way share your point of view. None of my kids, ages 9, 13, 14, 15, 16, 29 and 30 have ever been violent, or arrested, been in a fist fight, used a gun, or hurt another human being. All are 'A' students. And yet, have all been exposed to violent movies. You are barking up the wrong tree.

From: Musgun

Looking for this great film on the screen. I hope and guess that it will be wonderfull. I will watch it even if it would cost all my money. Thanks for giving us this present. excellent site. with some interesting insights. re. devs advocate at the end after Keanu's character takes his own life it seems he is given the chance to live again and time goes back before the events in most of the film. Then he passes his father al pacino as lawyer / the devil who smiles knowingly. it seems at this point that the devil knows what just happened with keanu killing himself - although now technically it didnt happen. and most interestingly - is pleased even happy that keanu made the decision he did. could it be that he is proud his son did not fall like he did?! i hope you understand my scrawlings, and would be interested in your opinion. thanks

RENT LAST TEMPTATION

From: Karen

Hello, I must tell you I had my second viewing of this movie on a network station complete with commercials this week. No, no, no--you must rent the video to enjoy and reflect on the wonderful portrayal of Jesus! Yes, as others have said--this is a more realistic view of our Lord as a real man. Why this movie has been blasted by Christian critics is beyond me. One must understand the basic premise that it is a "What If" movie. Then it can be enjoyed fully. I don't know why William Defoe didn't win an Oscar for his excellent performance! This terrific movie is a MUST see film! Thanks, Karen

DEATH HAPPENS BY CHANCE
Subject: final destination
Tue, 11 Apr 2000
From: JA

I never thought there could be a better scene with a bus than the one in "Meet Joe Black." I was wrong. I've rarely heard an entire theatre gasp as one. Killer movie all the way through. The movie seems to say that death, despite our best efforts, is chosen and unavoidable for each of us. Our time is set. God knows our days from the first to the last. This seems directly opposite to what we are told is the overwhelming belief of our culture, that we define our own lives, and nothing is set is stone. Death happens by chance. There is no plan. Am I reading this right or putting too much thought into it? Great flick even if I am.

At first, when I saw the preview for the movie, I was quite interested, but not THAT interested. Then I saw that it was out for rent, and so I decided to see it. This movie has made me feel that I can achieve ANYTHING. No matter how hard it seems, if one works hard enough and if one believes enough in him/herself, then you can do it. I think I'll go watch October Sky again now.

PARAMEDIC BURN OUT
Subject: Bringing out the dead
Date: Sun, 9 Apr 2000
From: Brent

I really don't know how to say this and not have it come off as being offensive, but I'm afraid you have missed the entire point of the movie. It is not a allegory of hell, what it is happens to be a very good portrayal of paramedic burn out. I Happen to be a paramedic, and a devout Christian, when I saw the movie I was one of a handful of people in the theater, as I looked around I saw what was happening, these people had come to see a Martin Scorsese film and instead were seeing the raw heart of EMS in a way few people outside of the business could possibly understand. This movie is one of the most realistic portrayals of burnout I have ever seen, the descent into madness of Frank Pierce was very real, I have seen it in the faces of my co-workers and friends. His character is one of a man who started out wanting, needing to help his fellow man, to do the good work, but day after day year after year it was the same thing, doing your best never making a difference. The "Hell " that he was going through, was the portrayal of him loosing his battle to care, to keep it more than "just a job". What happened to him happens to a great many people in EMS, and Martin Scorsese showed it in such a way as not to glorify but to force the viewer to share the pain and confusion. Every movie review I have seen of this film I have seen has been negative, that is by everyone in the news media and film business. The emergency Services community has heralded it as a must see, every paramedic I have talked to who has seen it have told me they intend to buy it, most Fire and EMS stations are waiting to purchase it as well. The movie was a masterpiece to a very select community, and I think the movie will forever be misunderstood except by the people who have to live that job. So as you see the film, remember the people who live through the madness, and pray for those of us facing that burnout, may God forever keep us safe and compassionate. Brent Davenport EMT-P FTO

I just want to say how great it is for there to be a Christian Godzilla sight! Do you know if this Godzilla 2000 is part of the ongoing series, or a re-boot? How about GODZILLA VS LEVIATHAN? God bless!

I've been a fan since I was 3... now I'm almost 18, and still love Godzilla! As a Christian, I really appreciate this sight. However, someone previously commented that MECHAGODZILLA II and THE SMOG MONSTER have never been released in US on video. Yes they have. Every film up to DESTROYAH in 1995 has been released here. I have them all...but some took some looking to find.

INTERPRETING THE MATRIX
Subject: Interpreting Religious Symbolism in The Matrix
Date: Sun, 9 Apr 2000
From: Jeff Arnold

Firstly: I am not a Socialist nor an Anti-Christian, although I am classified as Egnostic in that I believe in a single God and an Afterlife, though not necessarily the Christian interpretation of either. Secondly: As pathetic an insight to my life as this may be I have seen the Matrix 4 times in theaters and 12 times on home video. I believe that Paul Atreides makes several very good points in that there is deeper meaning to the Christian symbolism in the Matrix. However I would not say that is Socialist at heart.

I believe the Matrix encourages self-realization and finding your own spiritual path. This encompasses all religions, not just Christianity or Socialism. There are numerous pathes to the same end, in this case personal Ascension (Neo believing in himself as being the One). Whether or not the Wachoski brothers -intended- to include these deeper meanings is highly debatable. In truth they may have intended for this to be just as it looks on the surface: a parallel to the Bible. Yet even if they did not intend for there to be any other meaning than that seen on the surface, there certainly -is- more meaning to be found within the Matrix.

No one religion is "better" than another in my eyes; all are paths on the road to enlightenment and peace. The ideals in the Matrix (faith, believing in yourself, self-empowerment) can be applied to virtually any religion. The fact that there are strong ties to Christianity woven in does not have to be taken literally, but rather broadly. The beauty of the Matrix is it's ability to be interpreted in any number of ways (proven by the many varied responses on this board). Also: In reference to the music choice for the sound track: all of the songs pertain to fighting injustice, oppression, and the "system". The system (in the case of Rage Against The Machine--"Wake Up") being the government and organized religion.

Yet it is not religion or the government that we are fighting but our own doubts. The songs on the s-track do not stand for Anarchy, but again for self-enlightenment and spirituality. How does this relate to the rest of the theme of the Matrix? Simple: Find yourself--free yourself.

JOAN OF ARC LIKE MESSIANIC FIGURE
Subject: Joan of Arc
Date: Fri, 7 Apr 2000
From: Sue

Having just viewed this production on video here in the UK, although it was a rather basic script I was interested to see the interpretation of the Passion Narrative with Joan as the Messianic figure. Even a "mother" in the shape of her fictious nun friend and the "beloved disciple" who has been with her from the beginning, the alternation of Joan's final cries from "Jesus" to "God" echo Jesus' cry "My God, My God...." I've seen better character development but all in all an enjoyable experience and the biblical references where not lost.

STARWARS NOT ON DVD!

From: Christopher

They say, "Money is the root of all evil"! Well, all I have to say about that is: George Lucas is taking this saying to heart when it comes to his Star War movies. Did you know that he is not releasing any of his Star War movies on DVD because he claims he will loose money by creating the movies in this format! The poor man. To Hell with his fans I guess. With estimates in the Billions for the total gross for these films, the man is claiming he is broke and cannot afford to put even the latest episode on DVD. I guess the situation that Mr. Lucas is in is such that we should all chip in to put food on his table yes? After all it is the Christian thing to do. Greed is something for evil men and I see this is the case for the person in your article were it states: LUCAS ON GOD: "I think there is a God. No question." I leave the judging up to you.

MYTH IS INHERENTLY PARTICIPATORY

From: Thomas

Thoughts on The Matrix featured on this page are excellent, there are obvious parallels between the movie and the life of Jesus. I'm sure the Easter weekend release was not an "accident"; what does that really mean anyway? One thing missing interpretation is the message of the movie. It was a mythical portrayal of Jesus and the metaphysics around him, but what is being conveyed here is "be your own, personal Jesus" (ref to DM notwithstanding). Direct mentions of this at the beginning, and of course at the end when Keanu phones YOU on the telephone. Mythology is inherently participatory - you have to live out the message.

From: Xavier

Chazz: I read your comments aobut the movie, and it is obvious to all of us that you are definetly christian, but let me tell you the point of view of a non believer (at least in the part of Christ that is divine). I consider myself a follower of the Jesus doctrine (at least in the love and share part), thats why I dont think this movie is blasphmeous, in fact the Jesus that I can see in the movie is more like you and me. You say that if he sinned he is no better than we are, I don“t think sin makes any difference, I think that the real difference is that he loved even his enemies, he lived in love, with love, for love and to love, can we do that? anyway that is what he told us to be better, wiser, healthier and bigger. I think that is the difference. :

BEST JOB ON JESUS
Subject: Last Temptation of Christ Let's Get Real...
Date: Wed, 05 Apr 2000
From: Royce

Scorsese is a genius and did the best job of portraying the Jesus of faith and the historical Jesus combined that has ever been captured on film. The story itself is probably the closest to what ACTUALLY happened: that Jesus was HUMAN and was raised to BECOME the Messiah to fulfill the Jewish prophesies. Now, the Christians are not going to want to hear or read this, but the exchange between Paul and Jesus in the film was probably the clearest explanation of what ACTUALLY HAPPENED when Paul literally INVENTED Christianity. Jesus did not, nor did he ever want something called "Christianity" or ANY "religion" to come out of anything he said or did. Did you know that this Jesus was only one of over 800 so-called Messiahs along the way? Did you know that Jesus followed John the Baptist as one of HIS disciples? That the Baptist was thought to be THE Messiah? Jesus was not a "Christian" he was a JEW. Gentiles (non-Jews) needed something to believe in. Paul was an opportunist. Paul simply gave the people what they NEEDED to hear to give them hope. The disciples and apostles were a complete failure to carry the "good news" (which clearly is LOVE, NOT "salvation") so Paul took up the "story" and embellished it to include sensationalism and unbelieveable "miracles" that could not be verified or proved, traveled to far-away lands, and told it with "enthusiasm" (Greek for "inspired by God"). Paul was a SALESMAN and was very egotistical, as all salesmen are, and did all this for his own agenda in getting ahead and famous. Back to Jesus: in all probability, Jesus may have never made it TO the cross, much less, made it OFF the cross...if he made it off the cross, he was probably alive, heavily sedated. Good historical evidence from many sources states that Jesus' crucifiction took place over 900 YARDS from the nearest human observer other than the Marys and the key player, Joseph of Arithemaea, whole LAND it was upon, and into whose tomb Jesus would supposedly be laid. The tomb never had a body in it to begin with. Good evidence also states that Jesus was probably MARRIED. He was a Rabbi, and all Rabbis were REQUIRED to be married, and his wife was none other than The Magdelen, who was probably one of the original disciples, and was depicted on Jesus' right hand in Leonardo's "Last Supper" (the figure clearly has BREASTS). Jesus probably lived a long life, had 4-5 children and is probably buried in France. Thus, he has a LINEAGE, which is the subject of MANY books which takes this back to Free Masonry, The Holy Grail, "Camelot," Arthur, Parsifal, Galahad, and the Knights Templar. It is common knowledge that Mary (Mother) and Joseph of Arithemaea took the "Grail" to England. MANY, MANY scholarly works are written about all I say here, as well as documented on the Web; Baigent ("Holy Blood, Holy Grail"), the Jesus Seminar, John Dominic Crossan, Robt. Funk, et al. No need here to discuss whether or not the Gospels are the "inspired" word of God or who actually wrote them or if they are authenic. They are all highly controversial, to say the very least, and all written at least one full generation AFTER Jesus was in Galilee (IF he actually was...Josephus, the best historian of the day only gave "a" Jesus, the most COMMON name in those days, THREE LINES in all his work), and written by only GOD knows who. Nor will the Catholic Church's aganda be discussed, the number of changes in the Bible itself, nor the lost and secret Gospels NOT included in the Bible (Thomas, Mark II, Mary, Q, etc.). What REALLY matters about all this is what Jesus REALLY said and DID. He was a wise man, a prophet, and A son of God...just like he told us that WE all are ("Is it not written in your law that 'I said ye are all gods' and the scripture cannot be broken?" John 10:34)...that the things he did, we can do, and greater things than those. God, or this Jesus, had or has no NEED to be worshiped or deified. Only MAN has the need for "religion" and to be SAVED from something OUTSIDE himself or OUTSIDE GOD. The Kingdom of God is within us...within us ALL. There is no "ONLY" way to God. Many paths, ONE GOD...and by the way, another guy walked the earth some 700 years BEFORE this Jesus, and said EXACTLY the SAME THINGS that he did...Buddha. And another walks the earth TODAY and says the SAME THINGS that THEY BOTH did...Sathya Sai Baba...and the list will go on until we "get it"...GET IT ???---Royce

PASTOR DIGS MATRIX

From: "Al Milligan" chmouse@netins.net

I am a pastor in the United Methodist Church. I had no idea of what I would be seeing when I first saw The Matrix. It is nothing less than biblical allegory of the Christian faith: There is birth out of the matrix, baptism as Neo is flushed away, communion in the oracle, resurrection of Neo by no less that Trinity (Holy Spirit since the father and son are Morpheus and Neo?), Judas (Cypher), and ascendsion at the very end. I really like this picture because it tells the story in a new way, but it's the same story. No Christian hype or mea copa either. The thing we might miss in SF is that it talks about something absolutely real. The question of being caught in the matrix is something we all have to deal with whether it's the matrix of sexual steotyping or economic slavery. I loved the line where one of the characters says "Jesus!" and Trinity's next line is "What?"

AMERICAN BEAUTY IS HJ BEAUTY
Subject: General Comments American Beauty

First, I wanted to comment on David Bruces' comments and web lay out for the movie "American Beauty". I like the way you intersperse images of the movie through out the running commentary. I also like the way you think in so far that you see VALUE/ BEAUTY in looking behind the story per say. The average critic or movie comments typically only center on the story itself (ie. structure, originality, character believe ability etc...) You tease out some interesting correlations with true life from the film and in doing so you amalgamate fiction and reality, which, can only enrich them both. I like how you include other peoples thoughts on the movie even if you may not necessarity agree at the moment with them. It simply makes your site that much more compelling to view. I have so much more to say but will let my ramblings rest. Peace and understanding. Joe

Response: Thank you for those kind words. -David

OPEN LETTER OF APPRECIATION
Subject: Touched By An Angel comments

Dear Touched By An Angel, Cast Members and Staff,
I would like you to know how much I enjoy your show. It has really helped me in my life to deal with the death of my brother and mother. They have been gone for alittle over a year now . But, your show has helped me to remember to keep my faith and to know I can trust in God to help me through these hard depressing times. I know he will be there to help me. He has been so good to my family and I . He has brought alot of people into my life to help me cope with this. I lost my brother in a house fire January the 9th of 1999 and five days later my mother passed away. My mother had been in a nursing home for the past five years. We knew we would loose her soon because she had given up and was ready to leave. My brothers death was so horrible to me I just couldn't understand how God would allow this to happen . I soon realized God probly planned on taking my mother and my brother together. I miss them so much . Your show has helped me to realize also that I was not the only one who has problems dealing with a lose of loved ones. I feel such a power come over me when I watch your program. I can feel the spirit of the Lord in me . Your program helps people to know that things do happen to others too. And to trust in the Lord and he will help you to deal with your problems. I have read that there is a lady {if you want to call her one ] that is trying to eleminate or cancel your program because of the use of Gods name on the show. And because of the religious program it is . She is also trying to stop the reading of the Gospel of our Lord on airwaves in America. And to stop Gospel programs period! Why is the one persons voice so powerful? Who really cares if she likes these programs or not? If she does not want to watch them , don't! Why should there be so many programs on television with filthy language on it? Why will they allow the name of God be used with damn and that be ok? When they took prayer out of the schools that is when we started having problems with our children. They no longer are taught to have respect for others much less their parents. They have been taught if it feels good , if it is what YOU want then do it. They no longer have to fear the LORD GOD himself. I am trying to pass out flyers for people to sign and to send in to the Federal Communications Commission . I want to try to do what I can to help keep your show on air. And to see what we can do to stop the person from banding the other religious programs or things. I will keep you in my prayers and pray God will help us to fight and win this battle we have going here. Thank you for your time and remember me and my family in your prayers too.
May God Bless You. Pam Wheeler

I didn't exactly realize that Johnny Depp's character had become obsessed right away. I saw him as being more of a benevolent protagonist who was looking out for good's sake by retrieving the inscriptions. Eventually I realized his obsession. I feel that the statement that this movie is making is that we are now entering the final chapter or book; revelation. It makes satan out to be benevolent, and makes Depp's journey into Hell a glorious one, implying that the world will live out revelations prophecy.
