Listen,
David Bruce try to be guided by the Holy Spirit. You know the bible says"
My people perish for lack of knowledge". Don't be infiltrating the minds
of christians with trash. Watch out, for we live under the grace. God
has his Holy Spirit ruling right now and it is because of that, that his
wrath has not fallen on earth. Be very careful of what your saying and
doing. DON'T PLAY WITH GOD YOU"LL REGRET IT. The only thing Disney promotes
is PORNOGRAPHY, LESBIANISM. HOMOSEXUALITY AND WITHCRAFT. THAT FACT WILL
NEVER CHANGE. IF YOU WOULD TRULY ASK THE HOLY SPIRIT HE WOULD GUIDE YOU

BOGUS
GAY JESUS FILM
Subject: Newsletter_24
Date: Fri, 15 Feb 2002
From: Peter
Dear Sirs,
I received this email about the Jesus film in which Jesus and His Disciples
are supposed to be gay. It did say word for word what you had on your news
letter - The fact that there was no film name mentioned led me to question
the validity of this email and also led me to your site.
It is not my intention
to get into any sort of debate about Homosexuals. I certainly am not a "gay
basher and hater" as you say however, The Bible is very clear to me that
relationships that the Lord desires are those of Male and Female. The Bible
also states that sexual acts with members of the same sex is detestable
in the eyes of the Lord. I am sure that a God who believes in the Male/Female
relationship would not in fact be Himself Homosexual.
Nowhere in the Bible
does it give anyone the right to hate or judge anybody else - It is not
the Homosexual that Christians reject it is the act of Homosexuality. My
sister is one of my best friends and she is in fact a Homosexual.
Why is it that Christians
get such a hard time about their conservative beliefs. Surely in a world
where Equal rights are so predominant everyone is entitled to their say
and their beliefs. In the same way that I will not force my opinions on
others without being asked I deserve the same respect towards me in regard
to issues such as Homosexuality.
It is clear from your
section of article below: "It is having amazing results. People tell me
that Pastors are sharing this from their pulpits as though it were true.
Christian organizations are sending this out to all their members. It is
a nightmare. This stupid piece of despicable trash is being signed by Christians
who are letting the world know how little tolerance they have for homosexuals.
This is really a very cruel joke designed to identify gay bashers and haters".
that you write this article with frustration towards Christians - Let me
just say as we should not judge others so you should not judge us. We have
our opinions and beliefs based on the Bible which is the word of God. Maybe
instead of calling us "Gay Bashers and Haters" thus making yourself out
to be a "Christian basher and hater" in some degree you could be a little
more impartial.
We all don't fall
for bogus emails.
Response:
Christian basher and hater? Hmm, I think not. -David

ROBOCOP

I think you push a
little when you compare Robocop to Jesus... Superman was easier to link

was one of the most violent movie I've ever seen, even many years later!
And I'm somebody who's very tolerent to violence... I'm not christian,
nor anything linked to a religion, I've been raised in a catholic environnement
and just like for Robocop, some of your bible images you find in movies
are really pushing far... I'm sure the directors are going to your site,
look at your review and are rolling on the floor laughing with what you
found!

RETURN
TO NEVERLAND IS NC 17
Subject: "Return
to Neverland"
the Hardest NC-17 rated film Disney has ever made
Date: Thu, 14 Feb 2002
From: Jacob
Dear Dave:
Last night I attended a pre-release screening of "Return to Neverland."
Below are my thoughts on the film. The words on the screen seem much harsher
than how I felt. After seeing the film, I felt mainly regret for a lost
opportunity.
In "Killing the Unicorn,"
Peter Bogdanovich writes about the time he saw (then-girlfriend and now
late) Playboy Playmate Dorothy Stratten's Playmate of the Year pictorial.
He remarked to Dorothy that, in that photo spread, she was smiling. Before
that, she never smiled for the camera. How did she do that smile? She said
that she used "the hate." So, the PMOY shoot was all body, no soul. "Return
to Neverland" is the same thing.
"Neverland" tells the
story of Jane, the daughter of Wendy, the original heroine of "Peter Pan."
The Earth sequences of "Neverland" are anchored in World War II. Jane, ever
the practical one, has been charged by her father, called up for service,
to save the family. Jane does this, even charging through Blitz-blasted
London during nocturnal bombing attacks. Wendy continues to care for Jane's
little brother and tell him stories of her adventures in Neverland. Jane,
of course, thinks this nonsensical.
Suddenly, Captain Hook's
ship shows up over their house and the captain abducts Jane, thinking she
is Wendy. From then on, the movie is "Peter Pan" all over again, though
it is studiously (no pun intended) PC, never bringing in the Indians.
The artwork is well done,
the CG art and 2-D work is seamlessly integrated. Some of the scenes are
dazzling, like the opening sequence and Wendy's first flight sequence. Full
kudos to the artists and I am grateful to Disney for keeping them employed,
when so many other animators were being laid off.
So sad: think of all
the wonderful possibilities for new vistas and stories if World War II had
resonated into Neverland.
A very wise person once
told me, about Disney, "When you do a sequel, you have to tell the same
story, only different." Disney is just milking another franchise with "Return
to Neverland." The audience I saw it with gave more applause to the Pluto
short that preceeded it than they did "Neverland."
Keep your children far
away from this film. Jade them not with a Dorothy Stratten smile. Adults,
if you can stomach it, go ahead and watch it. Just remember, this is NC-17
rated fare, giving you all bodies and no soul.
What do you think?
Sincerely, Jacob
Responce:
NC-17 -not. It is about the importance of storytelling and myth. I like
the way you write, however. -David

The supernatural element is common. Only the wording has changed, but

This site should be
called Hollywood Jews since they are the ones who control the movie industry
in United States. Names like Eisner, Katzenberg, Speilberg, Geffen, etc.
are some of the media moguls of Hollywood...and they are Jewish. What
a coincidence ah? Isn't it America the Defender of Democracy, well then
why don't you guys make sure that everyone has the right to express themselves.
Why is it that one group has to rule what kind of information can be spread
and what not? No wonder there's a lack of social sensitivity in your films
and an evil portray of racial stereotype. They have the power of information,
and nobody can say anything against it.
Response:
May God forgive your racism. Jesus was Jewish, as were nearly all the
Bible writers. Christians were against Hollywood from the beginning and
never entered. Point your finger at the Christians, not the Jews. -David

POKEMON
IN JAPAN TOUCHES TOUGH TOPICS...
Subject: Pokemon
Date: Mon, 11 Feb 2002
From: The Bucket Mouse
I have seen both the
English and Japanese versions of this movie, and the Japanese version goes
much deeper. At one point, Mewtwo is upset and confused at not being created
by either a mother or father, or even God. a translation is this: "Who did
this? My mother? My father?" and the scientist told him no, and so he asks,
"Then was it God? Did God create me?". When the scientist replies "Only
two things exist that can create another life form: Man and God", Mewtwo
is enraged and destroys the lab. There is, believe it or not, a 'prequel',
released only on video in Japan, where Mewtwo is a kitten in a labratory
with a human clone as his friend. I'd go into that, but it's too long. Anyway,
at one point, baby Mewtwo and Aitwo (The girl clone) are gazing at the stars
and Mewtwo asks "Ai, who made you, and me, if we have no Mother and Father?"
And Aitwo responds, "I am not sure...can it be...God?" So basically, though
they were afraid to raise contraversy like they have so often in the past
and say it here, PokéMon does try to make good points, like the fact that
playing God should not be attempted by scientists...don'tcha just love my
precious Nintendo? ^- ~

Date: Mon, 11 Feb 2002
From: "Patricia Kennedy" My name is Patricia Kennedy, I am from Petros,
Tn. I watched as this movie was being made and I was amazed with it. I saw
so much interesting work being put together for this movie. All the stars
and ones that had a part in this movie, were nice people. I never saw one
unfriendly person as this movie was being made. I had never seen a movie
being made before and I've got to say that it was great. I had a few family
members which participated in this movie and they were grateful for that.
To me this movie showed a family with love, hard times and support for each
other. The father, even though he didn't want his son getting involved with
the missile business. He did finally see what his son could really accomplish.
The son, was just marvelous, he never gave up at what he set out to do.
This show was wonderful and I got to say that I'm proud to say that I'm
glad it was made here in Petros, Tn. I think they picked a wonderful place
for it. I hope it will happen again in the future. It was very interesting.

From: Matt
This is an incredible film. The acting, plot, and pacing work very well.
Beibg a fan of horror movies, I can deal with certaiin amounts of gore,
so I wasn't put off like Mollie was. I think that what the Kevin Spacey
character did was sort of like what those members of the Taliban did on
September 11. They took religious fanatacism too far. So did John Doe. The
people he killed, for the most part, may have been the scum of the earth.
However, he didn't have any right to do what he did. The members of the
Taliban may think the same way about us in the US, but they obviously are
confused about what God (Allah) wants.
It's like the olds saying, "The Road To Hell is paved with good intentions."

and also came across your review. I was wondering if you had ever seen Requiem

Also, I read your review

let me know what you think. I'm really interested in your thoughts on

From: Mark Osbun
I don't know if change
is good or bad, but it is so ingrained in the human condition that it has
always been a part of our life. Churches and church life are expressions
of the time and place in which they exist. Because people change and customs
and practices change, so do churches. Or they die. I doubt that any of us
today could relate to the church life of our own faith from two hundred
or three hundred years ago, any more than they could relate to our churches
today. Churches and church life are a cultural reality as much as a spiritual
one.

LOVE BRUCE LEE
Subject: Dragon
Date: Fri, 08 Feb 2002
From: Conan
I have been obsessed
with martial arts my whole life. I always say, "I wanna be the next Bruce
Lee." I'm researching him for a school project. When I read what some of
the super pro-Christian maniacs wrote, I felt scared. I consider myself
Christian, but I don't go to church. I only know I believe in God. And as
a Christian, I don't think God is capable of being unjust. Bruce Lee was
Chinese. The traditional Asian religion is Buddhism. That religion teaches
peace and there is nothing bad about it. In Asia, we did not develop the
concept of one God. So what I'm saying is, if God is the ultimate justice,
he would let all the good people go to Heaven, no matter what religion.
I am worried for Bruce Lee though. He wasn't a bad person, but he died in
the middle of the act of cheating on his wife. I hope God is as kind and
forgiving as I think. I just, hope so. Bruce Lee was also naturally un!
lucky. Now this may be one of the old superstitions, I don't know. They
say that the Lee family was cursed because their house in Hong Kong was
facing the wrong way. If this is so, I don't know what to believe. All I
am saying is, God created us, and has the power to destroy us. HE is perfect
and just. But if what the Bible says is true, a large population of the
earth will go to H-l, not because they're bad, but because they were not
born with the Christian religion in their family. That is BS and God is
not like that. Please reply and I look forward to hearing from you.

From: Herbalaussie
Tool is one of the best
bands to ever come together. I was ecstatic when I got the chance to see
them in Chicago on their Lateralus tour. I got a floor ticket because
I was the first in line.
Damn, that concert is the best one that I have been to yet! The floor was
packed and I could barely breathe with the crowd swaying to the rhythm of
the music, but I would do it all over again. Slayer, Pantera, Soulfly, etc.
are others that I've seen live, but Tool has them all beat.
I love the way they combine
images with their lyrics and notes. Every riff and word speak to you in
a way that no other band could. The only two bands that I like better
than Tool are the Smashing
Pumpkins and NIN. Everybody praises Kid Rock and Fred Durst for writing
"kick-ass" songs, when all of the talent that you need is right here.
"Lateralus" is the best
album that Tool has written yet. And fans never know what their next move
will be.

RESPONSE
TO YOUR COMMENTS
Subject: American_Beauty
Date: Wed, 6 Feb 2002
From: SEC
Hi,
I recently decided to review comments made by people who refer to Hollywood
for Jesus as a quideline to seeing movies. To my surprise you interjected
numerous oneline responses throughout my critic of American Beauty and then
delivered a length paragrahy; ending in peace. Wow! Your website mentions
our Savior's name in the title; that is why I chose to response to the comments
that I read (in fact I have read many reviews of films from your website).
I responded to this film through a conservative Christian's eyes. I believe
as a Christian, a movie must have a redeeming quality (it does not have
to mention God) inorder for me to recommended it. Your comments about Disneyland,
Mary Poppins, etc, seemed very mean spirited and in retaliation to my repulsion
to this film. Even Pulp Fiction displayed integrity along with humor and
much violence (everyone I discussed Pulp Fiction with stayed, "how could
anyone every take drugs after seeing the overdose scene"). In closing, all
the comments I made about American Beauty ...were of my opinion and I was
speaking for myself. Yet, you stated "speak for yourself", after a few of
my comments; don't most people who email you? And finally, did you know
that people who are continually sexual and physically abused, policeman,
paramedics, teachers, emergency room nurses and doctors, just to name a
few become numb...after living/working in that enviroment? Knowing this,
I feel viewing a movie that glorifies a world of lust, adultery, use of
drugs and homosexuality as acceptable; deprives a Christian of his/her spirituality.
Humbly and sincerely
SEC
Note: again please
do not reveal my email address, thank you.

Thank you for your honest reply. I can appreciate that. And you are right,

If you remember at the beginning of the movie. Larry pulls the coat rack
out into the hall, and later he asks where the coat closet is. Phil replies
that there is no coat closet. Could the coat closet symbolize these characters
lack of God or could it be because Larry puts out the rack that it symbolizes
his not wanting a place for God in his life or wonderings? Just a rhetorical
question.

REVISIONIST
REVELATION
Subject: Newsletter_29_Revising
John_3_16
Date: Tue, 05 Feb 2002
From: TFTD
Hi David,
I was wondering when you were going to hit on the WTC tragedy ( another
great door to open for Christianity) . The problem with evangelists, fundalmentalists
and anarchists is they try to redefine the meaning of the words to suit
their agendas . . . very much like being politically correct. The fundamentals
of Christianity are very simple and very clear cut as laid out by Jesus
. . . "Love one another as I have loved you" and "What you do to the least
of you brethren, you do to me!" and that prety much sums it up. Everything
else is an attempt to side skirt the "LAW" and justify abuse of each other,
and at worst in the name of God.
The key to all of this
is, after Love, is freewill. There is no judgement by God only the perception
of punishment by God for everything we do wrong in this world, and that
concept is mostly promoted by the church in some vain attempt to keep us
all from sin. " There is an appointed time to die, and then the judgement"
what that says is twofold, first somewhere up in the great somewhere there
is a calendar with your name on it, and when that day comes you are going
to die . . . no if's, and's or but's. Your dying does not matter, it is
your living that does. Since we do not know when that is, it would make
sense to make the most of each day we live, as though it may be our last
. . for well that it could. The second part is the judgement, and that is
clearly a pandora's box for sure. Most religious would like you to believe
that this is where you will either go to heaven or hell, but there are an
infinity number of possibilities. One of the most profound statements by
God is " It is the Father's will that not one should perish". Pitting Satan
against God, whose will do you think will prevail . . my money's on God!
All this evil in this world is absolute proof that God gave us freewill,
the problem is most people think some people should not have any . . Too
bad! . . God is an equal opportunity gift giver, He does not discriminate.
If He gives you freewill, everybody gets freewill . . if He loves you, He
loves everybody. The commandment by Jesus is clear, we are to love everybody
in spite of what they are, that's what Christianity is, if you can't go
there, don't call yourself a Christian. Call yourself anything else, but
you are not a Christian, and you are giving Christianity a bad name " Forgive
them Father, for they know not what they do!"

David-- I love this

great way to get ideas for movie discussions. One thing I would like to
see is more consistency in noting the ratings of films. I notice that
sometimes you list the ratings, and sometimes you do not. It would be
a big help to me if all ratings were listed, as my students range in age
from 11-18! This site helps me discern what will be useful and age appropriate
(and of course, after getting ideas I will view all movies myself before
using them for discussion), but parents especially find ratings important
and I want to be on the up-and-up! Thanks for a great site,
Holly

the strong line--"you might not believe in God but God believes in you
---I went with a friend who is a big fan of the book and he said all the
film abdaptations have played down the conversion of Edmund but this comes
the closest ---to bad the film hasnt recieved much advertisement --all
the acting is so good ....looking forward to reading your review...any

ANXIOUS
Subject: A
Walk to Remember
Date: Mon, 4 Feb 2002
From: Sean
Hi David,
I wanted to write to ask you a question....first let me say I love your
site! I have been working in the theatre business now for 8 years and I
am a Christian. I have seen my friends and business associates quit their
jobs because they were tired of all the violence being portrayed in film
and the non-Christian messages that were being portrayed time after time.
They ultimately decided that they did not want to be a part of the problem,
so they left. I on the other hand do exactly what your website does, finds
Christ in everything, be it good or bad, it is being brought to the forfront
of my attention for a reason. Thanks again.
Now for the question.
When are you going to post a review for "A Walk To Remember?" This movie
was released on Jan. 25th and I have seen it 4x and am planning on seeing
it again this week. I have read the book and absolutely can't wait for this
film to be released on DVD. The message of this film is so strong in Love
and Faith and ultimately God's Plan for various people. I think that Roger
Ebert hit it on the head when he said that "A Walk To Remeber is a small
treasure." I am anxious to see what Hollywood Jesus has to say about the
film.
Take care and have
a great day, God Bless
Sean <><....

T THE MOST CREATIVE
MOVIE I HAVE EVER SEEN! I am excited about this movie... and I don't normally
get excited about movies. If you like Momento or Dancer in the Dark, then
you will most likely become ecstatic after seeing this movie.
