David:
Longtime HJ user, first-time replier. Sorry about the communion experience-the same "closed table" almost sent me away from my path to ministry let alone the Church itself. (I'm a Lutheran pastor of the "open table" kind...) "The Family Stone" is indeed a marvelous way to engage the question of Christian hospitality and our often not-so-flattering attempts at imitating our Lord.
Yea, if Christians can not be hospitable -what hope is there for the world. We gotta learn to live together in kind and gracious ways regardless of the other persons religion, orientation, life style. To me that is at the heart of the message Jesus taught --"love others."
