Jesus and Comics What Do We Do Here, and Why? Jesse Johnson, Comics Editor

Jesse Johnson
The Perhapanauts is what happens when Hellboy's B.P.R.D. gets
transmuted into a Saturday morning cartoon show (the art itself is
reminiscent of some popular cartoon shows from the late '90s like
Godzilla). The characters lean towards the silly, and everything's
wrapped up in a nice little bow at the end of the story.
Not that
that's a bad thing, but at the moments when the team faces a true
crisis, it can be difficult to take it seriously.
So what are the Perhapanauts all about? The main characters belong
to an organization called B.E.D.L.A.M. (Bureau for Extra-Dimensional
Liability and Management), whose job it is to investigate the
unexplained in our world.
As one character puts it:
"...if it's spooky, these're the guys that're checkin' it out. An' the Paranormalier, the better!"

In honor of the recent film release of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, I
thought it would be fitting to post a few reviews of my favorite Wolverine issues.
I've been a big Wolvie fan since the start, as are
many readers. He's a fantastic character, powerful and dramatic from
the start. He's consistently rated as a fan favorite, and has appeared,
in one way or another, alongside nearly every major comic character to
date.
Though I enjoyed the recent movie adaption of his story, I must
admit that, to do so, I had to completely disconnect it from the comic
series. Not only did it butcher my favorite Marvel character (Deadpool),
but it failed to grasp the depth and intensity of Wolverine's spirit.
Still, it was a fun watch.
As a way to restore my faith in the
character and story of Wolverine, I decided to go back and reread some
of my favorite issues... |
