Comics Are Dead! Have You Heard That One Lately? Maurice Broaddus, Comix Editor
This is the memo that keeps being sent out every so often—easily once a decade—when people examine the state of the genre. No one is reading. No one cares. No new readers are picking up books.
But they are more relevant than ever. Consider Hollywood. Practically speaking, comic books are storyboards for movies. So while you may not have picked up a comic book in a while, judging from the upcoming movie projects from Sin City 2 to Iron Man, to Hulk 2, and The Dark Knight, I'd say Hollywood has picked up an issue or two. Click through for more of Maurice's observations about the state of the industry.

The Hood
With great power comes a great decision to make
Rob Rolfingsmeyer | 04/02/08 Vaughan's genius lies in taking a story we
are all familiar with and twisting it. The twists that he adds to any
of his stories aren't unbelievable... in fact, his twisting of the
familiar is that which makes his stories more realistic.
There's a new indestructable alien in town...
Jesse Johnson | 03/26/08 Invincible harkens back to a time when the
heart of a comic was each character's daily struggles, not the
brutality of the villains or the breast size of the damsel in distress.
These heroes fight their hardest to save the world (and make it home
for dinner).
Doctor Who #2
Not to Pick on New Artists, But...
Sterling Jones | 03/26/08 The concept of gods as aliens is very
palatable to my Christian sensibilities. I find the science-fiction
notion that the various collections of god-figures from the world's
mythologies are actual physical entities from alien places to be
compelling.
Only what they seem when you stop looking
Jesse Johnson | 03/19/08 Maybe those urban legends about underground
government bunkers and men from the moon weren't legends but
adventures. In a world that grows more jaded every day, it's refreshing
to read some hard sci-fi that desires to explore the momentous rather
than the mundane.
Doctor Who #1
The Time Traveller Returns to Comics
Sterling Jones | 03/12/08 If you already know and love the television
show, then you want to know whether this comic is worth $4.00 and
twenty minutes of your precious reading time. The short answer: No. But
the paper! Wow... that's some nice paper.
